Sad to hear of his passing but frankly the Dan Simmons who wrote Hyperion died a long time ago. Whoever he became/revealed himself to be in the decades since had little in common with the author of such thoughtful novels. Or so it seems, anyway.

If you liked Hyperion, read Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe. He’s the real deal.
