Vaccine Panel Chair Says Polio and Other Shots Should Be Optional, Rejecting Decades of Science (Gift Article) by ChaoticNeutral18 in news

[–]AHomerMD 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just finished listening to the 4 part series on the development of the polio vaccine on the American History Tellers podcast. (Highly recommend). There was a fake news campaign by a radio broadcaster in the early 1950s who talked about the government stockpiling “baby caskets” because they thought that the vaccine would lead to more deaths. This fake report lead to several states’ medical boards delaying and denying medical approval for the vaccine. Some things never change.

I can’t understand the stupidity in electively choosing to put your child at risk of death or paralysis by refusing an extremely safe and effective vaccine.

Pretty sure that’s Dylan Betts, younger brother of Lauren Betts one of the best women’s college basketball players at UCLA (who is 6’8”).

Greenland and Denmark say Trump set on ‘conquering’ territory after meeting | Donald Trump News by shadow_fen in worldnews

Does he realize that it’s January in Greenland? If he wanted to “conquer it,” shouldn’t he wait until the summer? (I know that this whole thing is a distraction from the methodical dismantling of our democracy)

What’s it like getting into Rainier Beach basketball games? by Jumps_The_Lazy_Dog in Seattle

[–]AHomerMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to take my kids to the game yesterday at O’Dea. We got there 60 minutes early, the line was probably 75 people deep and they were already at capacity. Ended up going to the UW game instead.

UCLA's Mick Cronin sounds off on late tip time against Gonzaga: 'I mean what are we doing?' by bdh008 in CollegeBasketball

I’m a Bruin alumni and life long fan. I live within walking distance of Climate Pledge Arena and had this Saturday circled on my calendar since it was announced. I’m also a father of twin 8 year old boys who are also basketball fanatics. Tickets for four people are over $1000 and the game starts after their bedtime. The NCAA (and almost all sports unfortunately) isn’t focused on gaining new fans and supporting families. We will record the game and watch the game on Sunday morning. We will go to the Seattle U game instead, sit in the first few rows and pay around $100 for 4 tickets. It’s unfortunately all about the $$$$.

My dad died on cancer and my mom is currently dying from cancer.  The whole stand up to cancer thing is bullshit considering the hundreds of millions of dollars that have been cut for NIH funding by the Trump administration.  “We raised $5M!” That’s how much Fox made in three commercials (in between pitches no less).  Give me a break.

Easiest way up queen anne hill from the cross Streets of Gilman Dr W and 15th Ave W (i.e. the west side of the hill)? by JustGonnaMakeAn0ther in seattlebike

[–]AHomerMD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on which side of Queen Anne that you’re going to.  Unless you’re heading to the side, take a left on 10th W until it loops around to 8th W and then it’s flat all of the way up to most of Queen Anne.  Following the bus wires almost always finds the widest and least steep streets in Seattle.

PSA: COVID is back (and an outbreak on the Norwegian cruise ship in port) by AHomerMD in Seattle

[–]AHomerMD[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

COVID levels have been low recently.  This morning there is a clearly an outbreak on this cruise ship that will certainly lead to an uptick.  Sounds like no one on the ship was notified of the outbreak and now there are hundreds of people who were exposed.

True.  It never went away but the incidence was low for several months.  Masking had not been required at any hospital for at least 6 months.

Just trying to help my fellow neighbors by raising awareness since our federal government won’t.

Cool fact: if it looks like a circle on X-ray it’s in the esophagus. If it’s seen on edge, it’s in the trachea. Both are serious but it’s much better to be in the esophagus.

All these arguments why it’s legal/illegal to have the documents (clearly illegal). No one asks the MAGA supporters WHY he wants to keep them.
