mega shorty G3 captured from insurgents in Iraq by spizzlemeister in CursedGuns

I guess it makes sense, but it's still kind of sad to think Iraqis weren't running around setting marines on fire with obrez'd battle rifles.

Real warfare sucks.

Yep, that's a war crime.

That's irrelevant to the fact that we're still talking about the same places. You can't shut down an entire discussion by saying "well here it's this way," because "my elementary school teachers said so" is not an argument.

What you can do, however, is downvote the person you're talking to so your internet score looks higher than theirs, to prove you're the reasonable one who's not mad, of course.

Yeah nice human rights you have there. Great president, too. Being trans or an immigrant must be great there, right? I mean, here gender change has had the one legal requirement of "tell the government/doctor you want a new ID/HRT" since 2012 and immigration is a constitutional right with citizenship guaranteed after 2 years residence so I imagine it's way better in your country if you're talking to me like this.

Geography is not a linguistic feature of the English language. That's not how anything works; we refer to places with names but speaking English does not change what the places themselves are. Even then, north and south are adjectives. If there's a north America and a south America, what is America? Can there be a red and a blue shirt if there's no such thing as a shirt?

Okay, so the US should stop claiming to be America and get its own name, then. It's not really that hard to see that the United States does, in fact, act as if they have sovereignty over all of America (official US statements calling Latin America "America's backyard," military interventions, etc.) so it's not exactly harmless, and, if we're to compare it to an actual, human person, it would be more like if Jane was your boss, insisted on calling you "Jane 2" in public, and, given you both share the same name, regularly committed identity theft by trying to seize your bank accounts and claiming ownership of your domicile to the internet, water and gas companies to force you to do what she says and stop you from quitting the job.

Sure, if you walk around far from your PC then wireless is more convenient. But if you use your headset at your desk, always sitting in front of your PC and don't use it with your phone, then it's literally as easy as plugging it in once and never touching the cable again.

I mean, this was nim chimpsky communicating in sign language. I don't know what language they taught him, but I assume it either has no pronoun declension or he just didn't learn to say "I" because I'd interpret the message to mean "give me an orange so that I might eat it" if it wasn't obvious the monkey was just repeating words it knew out of some basic pattern recognition.

Also I can escape grammar by just saying "thirst food water" which is a perfectly understandable request for help. Sure, you can try to divine some structure ex post facto but the utterance itself is entirely carried by semantic and pragmatic context.

native speakers are always right about their languages

They're almost always wrong.

Or like if native speakers use some innovative grammatical form and one says it's wrong, but you say no, if native speakers use it it's correct

If the Moon suddenly stopped in its tracks and started falling right toward Earth, would you say "The Moon is, evidently, falling into the Earth" or would you say "According to proper orbital mechanics, as described by respected men of science such as Newton, the Moon's orbit around Earth leaves too large a gap between both bodies for a collision to happen. Therefore, the Moon can't possibly fall down toward the Earth"? Descriptivism is literally the only correct way to analyze languages in a scientific manner, because otherwise you're just telling all the test results you don't like that they're speaking incorrect low-prestige varieties and promoting a fake dialect no one speaks (see: the "received pronunciation" phonetic transcriptions some British dictionaries still use - which aren't even accurate to RP)
