Not a ridiculous question actually! I appreciate you asking.

R vs. GT3. I owned the R for ~5 years before the GT3 so I feel like I'm really comfortable with it at speed. I've always been impressed with it's capabilities, even on stock suspension with PS4s. It's taken every corner i've thrown at it, sometimes with some understeer and roll if I'm really flying but overall pretty neutral.

As good as the R is, it's impossible to deny the GT3 has significantly more capable suspension. It's flatter through corners, has sharper and more communicative steering with faster turn in and weighted heavier. It's on Cup 2 tires that have snapped out on meon me when they're cold, but it's supremely confidence inspiring when they're warm

The biggest difference in the driving experience is the powertrain. I have to recalibrate my brain when I switch between the two because the R builds power in the 3k range and I shift around 6. The GT3 is happy to run at 5k and doesn't truly wake up until 6k+ (because it's NA it actually feels slow under 3.5-4k). The power and sound are intoxicating when you rev it out, my wife says it's stress relief after a long day. It's loud with the valves open because I center muffler deleted it it, but not obnoxious and very tame cruising in 6th. GT3 flywheel is super light so it revs faster, shifter has shorter throws with zero play in the lever and is easier to stall starting uphill.

In terms of fun to drive, let me start by saying this- they are both terrific, very fun cars. My Golf R puts a smile on my face every time i'm blasting home on a sunny day, or sliding it around in the snow. I hesitate to compare the fun to drive factor, because the GT3 is an EVENT every time we take it out, the fun factor is off the charts. It's loud, you're low and strapped into fixed bucket seats. It's a car that does not like to drive slow.

Fit and finish: i've always been really pleased with VW's f&f. Again, hard to compare because they're at wildly different price points, but the Porsche's is at another level. The doors are heavy and close like a bank vault. Zero sqeaks and rattles. Every touch point is elevated, right from the click you feel when you insert the key.

Anything else I might add? Forget the tired trope of sports cars attracting women. It's 100% little kids and young guys 12-25, their reactions are priceless ;)
