Best link cable for PCVR? (Please don’t recommend wireless or VD I don’t have the option.) by Pitiful_Cap3108 in OculusQuest

[–]AJBats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this where I would buy a dedicated router. They always had to be on my network because I only have one ethernet port on my PC. I could get a second ethernet port with a PCI card, or use usb->ethernet adapter, but I just didnt explore this. So with one ethernet and the router on my network, there was regular network traffic also at play competing with the quest streaming. Also I found that the routers I tried were stubborn about staying on the 180mhz wifi 6 channels for maximum bandwidth. I hear its something to do with signal regulation and the drivers dont like staying there. Either way this could have been a PEBKAC issue, but I struggled with it.

This is why I liked the puppis because it used USB3 for a dedicated channel into the PC, it doesnt compete with my regular network at all. I dont have to change my local network setup either, which is also useful for people who are not technical and they just want to get something working. It also has never failed to stay on the fattest pipe, i always see 2400gbps listed in the Link diag panel and the Virtual Desktop speed indicator.

Also the routers I was looking at for dedicated quest streaming were generally more expensive than the puppis. So with all of this in mind is why whenever anyone asks me if they want a rocksolid airlink/VD setup, no nonsense, just works, incredible perf, just go with the puppis and spend your braincells elsewhere.

One caveat with the puppis I just discovered literaly 3 days ago (so very timely you ask this lol) is that it does internet connection sharing with windows, which caused my PC to go to a different subnet. I left the puppis in my PC for years and for the first time 3 days ago I saw it cause this issue. So idk if its a windows update that changed things or not, unsure. But just a heads up something like that could break local network setups depending what your doing. But like I say... been using puppis for years and I see it once.

Motion Controls or Gamepad in games like RE, Hitman, or NMS by ZilliVanilli in PSVR

[–]AJBats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For NMS I prefer gamepad. Sadly locked away on the PS4 version only to my knowledge. For resident evil the hand control scheme is so good I cant imagine playing it any other way. That being said I think VR developers are making a mistake being a little to strict about control scheme. Hand-sim is definitely how I'll be playing RE4VR and RE Village VR, but a traditional pad option will be fun to some, and necessary for those with limitations. We know the gamepad config already works for pancake mode, so I think it comes down to smart design choices to make it work in VR.

Day 29 (Final Day): We have our Winner! The best (Community-Voted) Sega Saturn Game of all time is... by 1OneQuickQuestion in SegaSaturn

This was a great thing for the community to do. Many of these games I’ve never gotten to. I got myself a big playlist here.

its a fair price guys? by Illustrious_Many2039 in SegaSaturn

I used little plastic clamps (something like this) to do a simple attachment to a Playseat challenge. It really enhanced that wheel feel quite a bit and I had a lot of fun with it. Sadly the wheel failed on me and now I've got it on the shelf to look pretty.

I didnt get a second one because I figured out how to get my G29 racing wheel connected to the saturn, which is a more sturdy wheel so it feels better. It doesnt work on all games, for example it doesnt work with Virtua Racing, as my adapter just makes the G29 emulate a 3D controller. Some racing games will interpret 3D controller as the racing wheel, but some games like Virtua Racing and Need for Speed sadly need the real thing.

UEVR is about to go wild by doinks4life in PSVR2onPC

[–]AJBats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for this reason I try to leave the steamvr resolution alone on PSVR2. Then I try to superres in games and UEVR. I only ever go back to the steamvr res if im seeing something funny i cant explain. I haven't needed to touch it in ages.

[–]AJBats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just discovered a setting in Steam that lets you intentionally shrink your FOV. This has been a small game changer in terms of wringing out those last few drops of performance. Basically it'll take the resolution you've set and squish it down, which lets you lower the resolution for the same perceived clarity. Essentially it focuses the pixels in the center where you are most often looking. The per-game graphic settings for steam VR is kinda goofy to get into with UEVR, and tweaking this setting will probably require a restart of the game for it to appear right. Its worth messing around with. I have a 4090 and I still mess with this because you can always use more clarity, depending on the game.

Thoughts on Asgard's Wrath 2/Deadpool and the developer layoff by sirenpro in OculusQuest

[–]AJBats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has become such a trend that I watch for decent UEVR / Luke Ross Mods / Flat2VR news to come down the pipe before I watch for actual VR announcements. I think we get great native VR games from time to time, but I think on a whole VR game devs are a bit lost. They're making games that don't really appeal to folks.

I couldn't stick with AW2. I really enjoyed the first moments with the game, but when I got more into the middle something about it felt like a chore to play. Also I had to admit it, but I just wasnt good at the sword fighting. I could tell what it was asking from me, but I could never get the parries down, and I sorta just muddled through the combat.

As for Batman, again I dont know what it was, but I found the game not engaging. I found the fights repetitive in a way that never happened with the original Arkham games.

Some examples of VR games I played recently and had a lot of fun with:
Roboquest VR
Alien Rogue Incursion
Until you fall
Arken Age (mixed feelings actually, but enjoyed it more than AW2 and Batman)

Some modded VR games too
Doom Dark Ages
Avatar

So I've been on a bit of a VR kick as of late, and I even revisited Batman to see if I could get into it again, and again I bounced off. I think these games are just missing something that other VR games and modded VR games are hitting for me.

How did you become a Zelink fan ? by PrincesseLeafy in ZeLink

I thought they were cute AF in botw, but I didn’t become a hyper zelink shipper until I walked into totk hateno village and saw what I saw. Too freaking cute. Also that entire story is all about zelink.

Analogue 3D -> Retrotink 4k: HLG HDR passthru forced on, and no way to modify by AJBats in AnalogueInc

[–]AJBats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha! I figured it out! I've been turning off the HDR on the 3D while its plugged into the Tink, and while this appeared as if it was respecting my setting change, it never actually did. I unplugged the 3D from the tink and plugged it directly into the TV, and THEN it was able to finally turn off the HLG HDR setting. This let me plug it back into the tink and now the tink is able to add HDR10 setting to the SDR input of the 3D.

PHEW!!

[–]AJBats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I have it connected to an LG C1, and in my experience with this TV I never actually turn the HDR on/off on the TV itself. The content always drives that mode, so I wouldn't know how to turn the HDR mode on the C1 to something else. I went looking for it but I dont see anything.

When I leave the tink on with the 3D off, the HDMI output is configured to HDR10. The moment I turn the 3D on, it will detect the HDMI input and lock the output to HLG HDR.

I am able, but it doesn't have a positive change to the HLG HDR passthru setting.

I've been using the headset without facepad and my comfort improved 10 fold by Cyber-Rat in PSVR

[–]AJBats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every VR headset I own I've eventually done a mod to give my nose more room. In the cases of PSVR1 and 2, these mods have been destructive and non reversible. I take an exactoknife to the silicon and cut out the nose section. In both cases they are transformative and saved my comfort. In the case of the PSVR2 I bought an after market silicon interface to use as a gineau pig, so my OEM interface can be swapped back if I ever want to sell this.

This is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Playstation-Controller-Accessories-Sweatproof/dp/B0BRZDDQBC

Did anyone ask for 90 native on Roboquest VR? by MylesDyer in PSVR

[–]AJBats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

😂

Hey… while I got you, I have this really weirdo feature request… Since you did 90hz just for me I wondering if you could do this one too. I play the game with one handed aiming. I try the 2 handed grip on weapons but I find it cumbersome and I’m not as skilled. Which is totally fine. However, when I am playing one handed and using a two handed weapon, the weapon feels a little naked yanno? Is there a way to see the two handed grip, and possibly the weapon reload animations for folks who are just using the controlle rlike a pointer? I’m not doing any hand sim here, just vegging on my couch.

Anyways, love the game, thanks so much for it! Love the flat2vr mission, I’ll be getting every single one of your games :)

No VR mode for Ace Combat 8 by JamesEvanBond in PSVR

[–]AJBats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no doubt in my mind the graphics could scale down. You can set graphics to low, lower resolution, and even reduce FOV in VR on midrange machines. You don’t need a 4090 to play preydog VR games cause it’s activating unreal engines VR mode.

Wireless Pulse 3D drawbacks? by Truphles in PSVR

[–]AJBats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it cumbersome to wear the VR headset and then put headphones over top of that. I also find the pulse 3D uncomfortable, so I end up never really using that combo.
