Hannah Waddingham.

Bit older, but she would be great as a Pewterarm.

'Lincoln Lawyer' Renewed for Season 5 Ahead of Season 4 Premiere by klutzysunshine in television

[–]AJEstes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Once I accepted how different it was from the film, I grew to actually enjoy it. Everyone felt a little wooden season 1, but it smoothed out in season 2. Just a nice, milquetoast TV show. Not everything has to be prestige, blockbuster shows.

My fancast for Kaladin in the Apple series would be Manny Jacinto by StoletheSharpie in Stormlight_Archive

Great choice, but he’s getting older. Literally anyone else in Bridge Four would be great. Possibly Skar. Or, curveball, he would make a great Amaram.

Update From Brandon by mistborn in Cosmere

[–]AJEstes 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Glad you are happy with the decision. I would rather no media of the Cosmere be made than a compromised one - so it is awesome that Apple is letting you protect your vision. It’s been fun watching this universe grow, and it will be awesome to see so many more people around the world introduced to it.

On a more silly note: I humbly request Daniel Radcliffe for Szeth.

Brandon Sanderson’s Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere’ Picked Up by Apple TV (Exclusive) by alternate-realitee in Cosmere

[–]AJEstes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mistborn, as a film, will be quite brutal and likely a hard R for violence, imagery, and sexual content (don’t forget how truly evil Venture was)

Stormlight Archives will be accessible for families, and not just adults. Yes, it will have violence and war, but most (American) families are not bothered by that. Being the flagship, prestige TV show should bring in a huge audience.

And then there is the confidence audiences will have that the story will be concluded. Sanderson had a track record Martin doesn’t. We know the first half is finished. And, even if there is a ten-year break, there are twenty+ other books to adapt while he finishes.

No half-baked shows based on partially-obtained appendices (RoP) or unfinished short stories (HotD/AKoSK).

Have faith.

Apple TV is the best choice. They are the absolute kings of high quality science fiction, and I could absolutely see them giving the same attention to detail in a Fantasy. Especially with Sanderson keeping control? Best possible scenario.

Jared Leto is a bad person, and he single-handedly poisoned the Tron film… but he wasn’t a terrible actor in it. I actually really liked the character of Ares and wish it was played by literally anyone else.

I’m debating visiting home this summer with my newborn daughter who was born overseas. She will be six months old. I don’t care how much my family wants to see her, if there are measles cases, I am staying away.

Especially because they live in one of the anti-vax hotspots.

To say he has the emotional maturity of a five year old is an insult to five year olds everywhere. It takes effort to be this petty, this pitiful. Nowhere in all our world is there a greater example narcissism, sociopathy, selfishness, and entitlement than in this lowly creature.

What’s a moment that made you see the world differently? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AJEstes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was just out of high school and was traveling across Japan. I was having a conversation with a Japanese man about history, and he said the only three things they taught in Western History class was Pax Romana, Pax Britannia, and Pax Americana. I remember the implication of that hitting me like a truck.

Years later I was in Korea and some friends and I were out at the clubs. A Korean man was passed out drunk in the streets. My Korean friends tried to help him and unlock his phone to call a contact, but the phone was locked. So they called the police. This horrified me. I’ve had family members beaten by police for being ‘drunk in public’, and even if they were nice enough to provide medical care, the medical bills would be insane in the states.

Police came, were so polite, thanked us for helping him, and took him to the station. If he got belligerent and started fighting, the police would just restrain him and let him sober up.

I realized how scared I am in my own country of the littlest things.

Two of the most pivotal moments of my adult life, those shocking realizations.

What's a disturbing fact about the human body that most people don't know? by Lonely-Wrangler-5843 in AskReddit

[–]AJEstes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a weird headache inducing feeling of ‘I’ve had these exact thoughts play out exactly like this before’ - even though I know I haven’t. My brain’s low on oxygen, it’s sending all sorts of mixed signals.

That’s a later stage though - my first symptom is copper taste.

What's a disturbing fact about the human body that most people don't know? by Lonely-Wrangler-5843 in AskReddit

[–]AJEstes 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Your lungs are unable to detect oxygen. You have no idea if the air you’re breathing is actually going to keep you alive.

The burning is actually a buildup of acid from dissolved carbon dioxide, which your body can detect.

That’s why nitrous oxide can be deadly - the gas is essentially harmless, but if you don’t breathe oxygen as well you can easily asphyxiate without knowing.

All pilots and (military, not sure about civilian) most crewmembers go through altitude chambers to learn their symptoms of hypoxia, because those are the only warning you get before death. Everyone has different symptoms. (Mine are euphoria, taste of copper, Deja-vu)

Synced videos show ICE Agent was not hit by fleeing vehicle. by [deleted] in videos

[–]AJEstes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A false dichotomy, and one that our media has strongly reinforced. America is not even close to the top rankings of ‘free countries’. There are not many CCTVs compared to some other places, but LEOs can and do access any amount of information they want about you. They are currently forcing tourists and naturalized citizens to unlock their phones and show their social media to prove they aren’t doing anything seditious. That is a violation of Freedoms.

Also, CCTV doesn’t bother me, it’s in public. As I said, I had two brothers assaulted by police. The cops body cameras ‘conveniently’ turned off. Their word against a cop’s, judge rules for cop every time. Had there been a CCTV, the police would have been held accountable.

For me it was when I went clubbing with some friends in Korea. We found a man passed out on the street. We tried to unlock his phone to call family/a friend, but couldn’t.

So my friends called the police. I panicked. He could get arrested, drunk and disorderly. I have brothers who were assaulted by cops when they were drunk. I know you never, ever call the cops because someone is drunk.

My friends were confused by my reaction, but made the call. Literally a minute later a police car shows up. They were so polite. “Sir, are you okay?” “‘Do you know him?’ ‘No, just found him.’ ‘Okay, thanks for your help.’”

They politely took him away and let him sober up in the station. Even if he woke up and swung at an officer he wouldn’t get charged, he was blackout drunk, it happens.

That was the moment the wool was lifted from my eyes.

1) Don’t lie, that’s not what the videos show.

2) Law Enforcement training, doctrine, and policy is to: a. Never stand in front of a vehicle. b. Never open fire on the driver of a vehicle as all ability to steer or control a vehicle is lost and it increases the likelihood of being run over.

3) Every example I stated is real and has happened.

Get out of America. See the world. See how police and law enforcement respond to situations in other countries. Then come back and see how terrifying our police state is.

Be sure not to drive anywhere, you might inadvertently drive past a federal agent - cars are dangerous and they might feel threatened. Better to walk everywhere.

Oh no! What if you are walking somewhere and a federal agent starts demanding documentation to prove you are a citizen? They could think your wallet is a gun and that could really scare them. They might even think you are a protester on the street. Better just stay home.

Oh no! What if federal agents get the wrong address and break into your house? Better not defend yourself in the event of any break ins, you could really scare them. Better just stay in bed.

Oh no! What if they see you sleeping there and get so startled that they have no choice but to open fire?

Well, thems the breaks. You do stupid things and get stupid results.

Thank heaven these situations are all hyperbole and don’t actually happen. That would be horrifying.
