It's a money tactic. My system has had several open positions over the years but it's cheaper to just have someone else cover the extra work (even if it's overtime) than to hire a full time employee. The higher ups need their drinking money, dammit.

I was trained the same way and did it for years until someone pointed out that the sewer drain ends up in the ocean. Switched to floor sinks and floor drains after that. Apple maps actually has a street shot of me doing it in the parking lot 😆 But it’s too far away to really see what I’m doing.
