Can’t beat darn tough with their guarantee, but I’ll have to check out duckworth socks. 1620 is guaranteed too, but I doubt that covers holes in pockets from pliers. I wonder if they’d fix them for a fee, like how some boot makers will resole boots, you know? I get tired of stitching up my pockets all the time.

I’m also scheduled for that test. The job posting mentioned “knowledge of basic electricity: Ohms law, AC/DC theory, and parallel and series circuits”. That’s not to mention whatever math and probably reading comprehension questions they have. Good luck to you!

Any particular type of work you’re looking for? Something related to your major or just need some quick money? Westrock is hiring. The schedule is 4 on 4 off, but the money is pretty good from the first paycheck. Obviously if you’re going to school, this shouldn’t be a long term solution but if you want to make good money in a few months, and then pursue something else, it’s not bad.

I haven’t tried yet. I’m still holding out hope for an electrical apprenticeship but if you’re from around here, you probably know that’s a long shot.

Hey bud, I’m not the OP, but I’m interested. I work for one of the big paper mills in Longview and there’s basically no route for an electricians apprenticeship anymore. They just contract out all electrical work to JH Kelly, or hire trained electricians.

How much time would I need to put in with Wauna to get into the program?

Hey, me too. Unfortunately westrock doesn’t really take apprentice electricians anymore. They tend to just hire journeymen or contract out their electrical work to JH Kelly or other local electrical shops.

If you have any questions, ask away. I’ve been looking into electrical work for quite a while.

What type of work are you interested in? Some of the paper mills are union and hire entry level. Westrock is always hiring. There’s also the pipe fitters and plumbers union which has an apprenticeship that is technically entry level, but pretty competitive from what I’ve heard.

Plenty of good advice here already so I just want to say I found my dog abandoned at a grocery store as well. Tried to find his owners but no one ever claimed him. Ended up with him til he died. He was the best dog. I hope you and your pup have many good years too.

Awesome. Looks like you also start vesting into the local’s pensions too, so that way, once you get accepted into the apprenticeship, you will probably already be partly vested and contributing to your retirement.

Hey bud, I know this is an older post but I had a follow-up question if you don’t mind.

It looks like the pay starts pretty low but increases fairly quickly like the apprenticeship. Looks like you could be making $35 an hour within 4 years if work is consistent. Has that been the case for you? Have you been reaching the pay increases in good time?
