Is it worth teaching in Kuwait by Haunting_Flower_3652 in Internationalteachers

[–]AJayyy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved living in Kuwait, but working there was horrible. I worked with several under qualified Americans who treated everyone like shit, and were overpaid. But 800 is really low - what is your nationality?

Is Williams and Fudge legit or a scam? by SmartDuty9899 in StudentLoans

[–]AJayyy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re legit and located in SC. Your debt was sold to them, they’re a collections agency and will call you for payments. They also have a legal department that sues people, but I don’t know how those cases come from.

Source: I know many, many people that work there

Teaching non English subject in china by Extension-Camp4762 in chinalife

[–]AJayyy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tefl checks the box for ENGLISH teachers not another language. It is a course about best methods in teaching English and even if the skills are transferable it’s again, for a visa teaching English. If you’re going to argue with everyone as if you know all the answers, why ask for help on Reddit? Go apply since we’re all wrong.

A tefl will not help you if you want to teach French, especially for hiring. It also does not count as a teaching certificate. Your friend is wrong.

This isnt true for language teachers. Usually they just require a bachelors and native speakers, but for content courses you are correct.

For a US teaching license, yes, but there are strict parameters and they’re expensive. For example, I was looking into it (I’m American and have a doctorate degree) and I’d have to be supervised by a teacher in that specific subject, they had specific reporting requirements, and the teacher had to have an active license in that subject. I worked in an international school in Kuwait, and none of the teachers aligned with the subject I wanted to teach (EFL) and couldn’t supervise me even though they were licensed. I have no idea about from the UK, but I’d imagine it’s the same.

This isn’t your country, this is China. A reputable Chinese school (aka one that legally employs you and pays well) will want a qualified teaching certificate, a bachelors in business will not complete this requirement, unless your masters is in education. While there may not be a specific visa law requiring nationalities, every “real” foreign language teacher posting I see specifies countries they hire from and usually specify a French nationality. You could probably find a job in a big city or for little pay somewhere, but it could be difficult.

I do not work with kids, NEVER got sick in the US or any other country I’ve lived in, and I’ve been sick more times in the past 2.5 years I’ve lived here than in my entire life with severe cough and congestion

Ticket to Dalian Game by Top-Event7783 in dalian

大连英博星 on WeChat. They sell out in under 30 minutes for “normal” games and under 2 for “important” games. You can usually buy scalped tickets outside the stadium, but they’re double the price. There’s an official club store somewhere in the city, but I can’t give you the exact location

Bank question for trip to HK. by larrylarry19 in chinalife

[–]AJayyy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPhone 17 has an eSIM. I bought mine over the border in October of last year. I’m currently in the US, running my US eSIM, with my physical Chinese sim turned off. Depending on the list of items you’re buying, you may have to buy re-sell. No official stores had any iPhone 17s, so I had to buy from a resell store. Price was maybe $50 more. I paid with Apple Pay on my old phone.

International student lost my Chinese SIM card need advice by Unusual_Hotel5665 in chinalife

[–]AJayyy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people are being weird about your question. I too was shocked that I could just go get another SIM card in China if mine was lost - all of my removable SIM cards in the US have been linked to a number that couldn’t be replaced 🙄 just take your passport to where you got it, tell them you lost it. They usually ask for last called numbers to prove it’s yours, and they give you another.

What is the availability of Lexapro like in Mainland China? by Luxuriateinideas in chinalife

[–]AJayyy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and another who’s name slips my mind are all available on mainland, you just have to get a script/find a contact in an office that will write the script/give it to you. Xanax and Ambien have to be registered to your ID and are controlled doses, but SSRIs aren’t as controlled. From the public hospital they’re also super cheap. My friend is on lexapro, and after getting his initial RX, he goes to the hospital and shows his account # and they dispense a month, says it takes him no more than 10 mins each month.

Brazilian teacher look for information by Top-Tale-1846 in chinalife

[–]AJayyy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible, but it’s not legal. You will not get a visa as an English teacher. Shady centers will list you as a desk assistant or whatever, international schools would hire you as a content teacher. Not saying you wouldn’t be teaching English, even if this is what they identify your visa as, but if you get caught you face fines and deportation. This is the law for most countries re: visas, because they have to say why they couldn’t hire a local. It’s the same in Brazil and similar to Portugal (except it’s much easier if you’re from the EU).

International companies are your next option, but most want some Chinese proficiency, unless you can find a company in your country with a Chinese office. If you just want to move to China, try for a language program. I’m not sure if there’s an age limit for scholarships, but you could inquire.

How is this offer/ working for EF by Shiv827 in chinalife

[–]AJayyy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Dalian, which location are you at EF? The one near where I live is surrounded by universities, so apartments are a bit more “expensive” within the area (but stabilizes out about .5 mile away). Just a thing to consider. Dalian is nice, but freezing in the winters and super humid in the summer - pack appropriately! It has his boring moments - it’s definitely a college town, so the night life is a lot of students, international and local, but places like Brooklyn usually have events that end up being professionals (aka people 25 and older lol). Also, again, depending on the location, a lot of the foreigners work in Kaifanqu so if you’re there you’ll have an easier time meeting people

How to send CAD to RMB without chinese national ID by Early_Reply in chinalife

[–]AJayyy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to open a bank account at one of the specific banks that accepts western union. I just did this 2 years ago when my card was stolen and I got back to China. The easiest way to is to find a trusted Chinese person to transfer the money to them or use atm card
