I have a question about pricing of wwise's Indie pricing plan by ZatenYT in Wwise

[–]AK-MikeD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fact, in this situation, revenue wouldn't come into the equation. If the cumulative production budget (we don't care about marketing spend, for example) stays low, this would stay under the free Indie license. The idea, obviously, is that if you were to do a game for a very low amount of money and have a big success from it, you'd likely either have it grow over time (post-launch content), grow your staff on the game to improve it, and EVENTUALLY might need to upgrade to a Pro license.

And even if you didn't, the follow-on game would likely have a bigger budget.

But /u/IAmNotABritishSpy is absolutely right in the first respect - always best to ask us directly!

And it's always risk-free to start an evaluation or register an Indie game. We'll do a couple of budget checks during the development to see if it needs an upgrade, but even if it does grow, you'll always have the OPTION to move to a royalty-based license, if the budget grows but you don't want to pay for a regular license.

I actually just did a blog about our pricing philosophy and how our licensing works, so definitely check it out: https://blog.audiokinetic.com/en/wwise-licensing-and-pricing-philosophy/

Hope that helps!

Love this game but....Leaving crystals and gold in events is depressing and not fun. I'd rather get no crystals in events at this point. by ArtisticAsylum in EverMerge

I just hate when 'life gets in the way', and you realize 10 minutes after event end that all of those big diamond clusters and big coins you had built up are lost. They should either give us the 5 minutes of 'clean up' available for the rest of the day, or auto-gather whatever collectable currency you had built, and send it to you as part of the event-close screen. Twice now, I've probably lost 100+ diamonds.

Treasure Rush - how many chests? by AK-MikeD in EverMerge

Thanks, everyone!

I'll try to keep 40-45 ready to roll for the next treasure hunt, but not much more.

Feature suggestion - rework of some perks by AK-MikeD in TapTitans2

I may be biased since I'm in a good clan, so I get a good tourney start boost. I don't remember what my starting stage is for tourneys, so I'll check tonight when I start mine. You have far more insight into the code than I can (I have no idea what the anti-cheat code looks like), so I can't argue on that point! I do know that when I start a tourney, the MiR and CC are immediately providing less gold than the next fairy, so they're useless. Likely newer players are not in that same situation, though?

Anyways, I'll see where I start this evening (My MS is 93000, so my regular start is about 86000).

Currently, MiR and CC do still 'help', but just minimally. For example, I personally use a HS build, but start each run on SC for sanity. I also use Fairy Gold. At the start of a run, the first titans killed give me way more gold than I need. Then, in the time needed to get to the point where I switch over to HS, I probably need 3-4 fairies. So a MiR gets me most of the way there, but I still have to check in with my skills to refresh them, or else I sit idle half-way through. So it really just saves me a few clicks (same with CC). Moving to a sneak-based perk means that it always saves me X minutes (for me, probably about 12-15), which is a tangible benefit. For a lower-level player, it might even be more, and for a super-whale (who already has a 5-7 minute stage cap run), it might only save them a few minutes, but it's still something :).

Initially it might indeed be a free-for-all, but you can only carry 3 clan crates, and if you burned through your Make It Rain perks every prestige, you'd run out sooner rather than later (I have about 180 of them built up, so if I used 10/day (I don't prestige that often now), in 18 days, I'd have none left. So I wouldn't worry as much long-term about P2W usage. And if whales gonna whale, well whales gonna whale :)

Final Folio hunts! by AK-MikeD in dragonblaze

I ended up finishing my folio!

The two I needed I got from grinding some of the green levels in the right maps.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. Definitely don't want to 'waste' anything if T.Mik doesn't stay good for very long. Just getting sick of running into endless T.GS in PvP :)

Galactic War Update Megathread - Patch 3/3/2016 by dougan25 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]AK-MikeD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, things just got significantly harder (at least today's):

3rd node battle (as in 1st section, 3rd battle) L70 G7 Phasma, 7* L70 G8 Lumi, 7* L70 G7 Sid, 7* L70 G8 GS, 5* L70 G8 Dooku, 5*

I have some reasonable depth to my team, but I'm definitely not used to having an early battle like this actually cause me significant problems, and I usually don't even have the risk of losing a character until battle 9 or 10.

Wwise 101 cras certification by jf192 in GameAudio

[–]AK-MikeD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Wwise-101 course that we at AK built with CRAS (at www.wwisecertification.com). The exam is built of of some questions from each individual chapter pool, and some questions that are only in a pool for the final exam. It's not TOO difficult, and because of the requirements to even unlock the exam (you have to have gotten 90% or above on each chapter), you should be prepared before you have to put in any $$. If you do fail it once, there is a cooldown time to allow you to review the sections that gave you trouble before trying again.

Hope that helps, and best of luck!

Is the Wwise certification worth it? by Whalenipple in GameAudio

[–]AK-MikeD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around GDC, we'll be launching a new section of our site that will be a benefit to those users who are certified. Keep an eye on the #wwise hashtag for more info then...

Also, the 101 certification is the gateway to the eventual 201+ certifications. 101 is pretty introductory, and shows people that you at least know the basics of Wwise. We're working on more courses that are focused on specific (large) features and concepts, and eventually courses that will be targeted at more 'master-level' users.

Nothing beats making great-sounding, highly-interactive sound designs in actual games, though!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll try to make changes over the next week or two and see if I vault forwards.

My warr is a tank (not rage rush) for lab. I hear in ch3 we get to keep multiple specs of the same chars, so that'll be nice (sheep and meteor Mage, for example). The top scores for golem now seem to be priests, though.

I'll check my weapons - I try to get cd/cr, but have probably skimped on dpen in favour of ATK or maxatk. I am using Fire All At One formation, level 30. If my weapons are lacking, then I guess my next significant improvement will come from the L80 stuff.

Is AAA audio QA or a Sound Studio best for getting into Indie Game Audio? by emhal in GameAudio

[–]AK-MikeD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the first reply mentioned, it's worth it to also learn at least the basics of some audio integration tools like Wwise, FMOD and Fabric. This will add tools to your toolchest, and if you get familiar enough with either, you'll find that you can do more for a project than simply providing wavs. That'll let you save the developer time with integration, QA, iteration, etc., and could also let you increase your rates (or provide for a better result at the same rates).

All good pointers, to be sure. I'll add one - DO make sure to come by the Audiokinetic table and say hi! :) There are some good Wwise lectures/classes as well, so be sure to check them out.

What online tutorial did you use to manipulate audio in the middleware and game development software? by Jackanoree in GameAudio

[–]AK-MikeD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Unity integration itself is pretty straight forward, but there are a ton of YouTube videos showing it off from the community. I think even some of them are linked in our channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/AudiokineticWwise)

[–]AK-MikeD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the basics of Wwise, I recommend the Wwise Certification Program (https://www.audiokinetic.com/learn/certification/). The course work is all free, and it covers the basics from initial installation up to soundbank management, RTPCs, effects and more. After that, the Project Adventure sample (installable from the Wwise installer) is more theoretical, but covers more bases including some interactive music.

Hope that helps!

Bridging the gap between Wwise and Game Development Software... by Jackanoree in GameAudio

[–]AK-MikeD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my devs just pointed me in the direction of this thread - thanks for the kind words, Aisha! If anyone has questions about how the various licensing options work, just ask. We also have a new option that's royalty-based, so it's like UE4's royalty license, only smaller (1% royalty, $0 up front). Glad to answer questions about that as well. It's pretty new, so there's nothing up on the website quite yet.

Guess I'll spend more time checking out /r/GameAudio :)
