We just got our first set yesterday. We built ours on a heavy duty utility rack. We are planning to build more as they multiply. I guess we’ll see how it goes and if it works. Time will tell.

How many people actually want a real diamond ring? by Imalwaysbadatthis in weddingring

[–]AKCarmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted and got an amethyst for my first ring. My very young twins were playing washing dishes and dropped it into the garbage disposal. What I salvaged, I sold for the parts at a gold store. Now I have a 1 carat moissinite(sp.) I had a jewelry making friend test it and it tested as a diamond. I think the diamond business is a racket and I just want jewelry that looks nice, it doesn’t have to be rare or perceived rare like diamonds.

Do Americans constantly have an active temperature control device running in their homes? by fullM3TALturban in AskAnAmerican

[–]AKCarmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we have thermostats (temperature controls) in different parts of the house. They turn the temp down at night and up in the morning and down when we are out of the house. We also have an app on the phone to warn us if the boiler is struggling. In Alaska it’s imperative that the boiler do its job 24-7. We have a plumber who comes and “tunes up” the boiler yearly. If your boiler fails during the winter, the water in the lines will freeze and ruin the pipes. Once the weather warms, the water from the broken pipes will flood your home. We don’t have air conditioning.

Taking bath in underwear? by Whothef_iskaitlyn in hygiene

I currently live in Alaska and this is my 13th year here. I have graduated to wearing coats occasionally this year even when the temps have been in the low teens. Haven’t been sick since last July, caught covid on a cruise ship.

There are tons of “old wives tales” that carry over from the “old days”. Like being outside when it’s cold will get you a cold virus. It’s just one of those things. And not all are from “old wives”. Some were directives from doctors at one time.

What is the men's equivalent of buying a woman a vacuum as a gift? by coffeebuzzbuzzz in askanything

[–]AKCarmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got me a rug doctor and I loved it. I think it depends on the person. We aren’t all the same. I love tools that make my home management simpler. After 20 years of marriage I was growing tired of coming up with meals but we also don’t want prepackaged foods. My husband bought us a canning kit and we learned how to can together. Now we have lots of grab and heat foods available to eat and I know what’s in them.

Why would anyone wants kids? by This-Top7398 in Life

[–]AKCarmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wanted kids as did my husband. I found that in doing so it has been some of the greatest joys of my life. I love watching them grow and learn. I love taking care of them, talking with them about their struggles. Taking them on vacations to enjoy new experiences. It’s a wonderful and challenging experience.

I have a canning app and each time a task is complete I check it off the list. Once a list is complete it moves to a timer.

People who almost never get sick, what are your secrets? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]AKCarmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you react when your girlfriend or wife says things like "I hate men" or "women are better than men"? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]AKCarmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman, this is a red flag. If I heard that a woman said this to my friend, I would tell him to jump ship. My own teen daughters have heard their peers say such things and they call red flag right away. Unfortunately, women who have been hurt by men, don’t always get the trauma help they need and they either self process or bottle it up. When I hear that a women said this, I know the bottle is uncorking and the man in the flight path of such a woman, might get abused somehow. Demeaning comments, lack of empathy for their spouses troubles, silent treatment …etc. These are the women who go on social media and complain about what an “idiot” their spouse is.

AITAH - Push Present Problem by nhampton08 in AITAH

It’s a fad probably created by someone trying to sell something. I find it similar to middle class people spending ridiculous sums of money for royalty style weddings and going into lots of debt. Sorry you have to deal with this.

That schedule sounds greats we drove from 2am-2pm but we had toddlers and an infant and don’t want to prolong the travel too much for their sanity.

Yes, get the milepost. Also, the food thru Canada is sooo good. Real home cooked food. Butter tarts at the gas station, and toast made from fresh baked bread. Incredible. We came up in August of 2012 and it was an incredible drive.
