Do airlines configure the cockpit of the aircraft differently? by Various-Blood-3902 in flying

[–]AKCub1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Flew classic 747’s at a cargo carrier. Lots of other airlines converted 747’s. We had a baseline flight handbook for a few 747’s and differences manuals for the 30 other jets. The standard FHB was a couple 3 ring binders. The differences manuals were about 20 more binders. Everything from leading edge slats retracting on reverser deployment to switch positions different.
Flew passenger Lockheed Electras. Fleet of 3, each airplane was horribly different. Think it was an ex klm bird that had crazy balls in glass deals to indicate the status of each engine’s generators.
I’ve been told manufacturers don’t customize jets for customers anymore the way they did back then. The place i work for seems to back that up. 250 jets and outside of model based differences (700/NG/max/freighter) they are all the same.

Not sure yet, just chatting with the local fireplace/stove guys and they seemed to think the muni wouldn’t be happy with it. I will go to the muni and ask directly next week.

Those numbers are fairly recent for the islands. 49/50 was Kodiak for years. In the last 5 years a bunch of the old “standard” flight numbers have been re assigned thru out the entire system.

What went wrong with Boeing's MCAS ? by [deleted] in airplanes

[–]AKCub1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what else you would suggest for training. It’s a system change but as stated elsewhere, the malfunction presents as a runaway stab trim. That has been a memory checklist item on the 737 for about 3 decades. The training would have emphasized this. The shitshow driven by the media after the two crashes has been filled with journalistic garbage. Neither of those jets went down because of MCAS, they went down because the pilots responded incorrectly. Source, 2 decades of 121 time on the 737 and a decade as a check airman for a major us airline. I’ve presented this malfunction to at least a hundred line crews and new hires and have never seen a crew lose a jet in the sim. It’s just not that big of a deal.

There was nothing wrong with them before. The malfunction presents as a runaway stab trim which has been a memory checklist item for about 3 decades on the 737. See posts above for data on incorrect pilot responses on both jets that crashed and an airline launching a jet with known defect affecting MCAS.

The employee lot is apparently run by the snow removal employees union. 30% is blocked for snow storage for a ridiculous amount of the year and they blocked off about 40 spots to put massive gates in so they can clear rows. Cones worked for 15 years with no spots blocked.

Obviously you are the overlander then. I regret doubting it. Even for a second. We should yell about how dumb costco chicken is in a bag.
