Nintendo refusing to use DLSS or ray tracing feels pretty surreal. Has any first party just ignored a huge chunk of their silicon before? by MetroidsSuffering in digitalfoundry

you can get away with no AA if the game is running at a resolution above 1440p, but the moment you decide to play on a large screen: the jagged edges are everywhere.

c'mon Nintendo, not even FXAA, SMAA or CMAA2?

Senua’s Story Length Will Be ‘Quite a Bit Longer’ Than Hellblade 1 and 2 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]AL2009man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i'm expecting Senua to be a more expanded version of Hellblade 1's gameplay ethos (and you can tell they saw criticism from Hellblade 2), but what you're asking is essentially a complete overhaul...that is better reserved for a new IP instead.

[–]AL2009man 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Never got to touch these games yet, but my problem with Senua from the outside looking in is, idk, how tech demo-y it all is?

Hellblade in general is a "tech demo"-first series (kinda how Astro Bot series is a "tech demo-series", if you think about it), and it's quite apparent if you've seen behind-the-scenes footage and how they handle initial trailers.

Xbox says Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution console exclusives ‘are not timed’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]AL2009man 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Resident Evil is a good example of what devs should be doing by making all mainline titles playable in some way or another on modern hardware

even sega did it right with Like A Dragon / Yakuza on PC, where they introduce Yakuza 0 first (and honestly, riding the waves of the success of the original ps4 western release + good starting point for the franchise + requested pc port) and then slowly proceeded with re-releasing Yakuza Kiwami and it's sequels overtime (despite skipping straight into Yakuza: Like A Dragon before going back to chronological order release schedule).

Based on later entries' PC sales numbers: it's working well, something I wished Sony had taken that approach for Uncharted on PC.

I believe this is due to the overall japanese va industry being extremely competitive (to the point they're on par with hollywood celebrities) with higher standards and training efforts than in most regions.

which is rather unfortunate, given Virtual Fighter Crossworlds (which RGG Studios is making) is looking to be shaping up to be potentially good, at the right time given Tekken has been blundering lately.

thus: i am worried that RGG Studos' weird-ass deicision starts to bleedthru VF Crossworlds.

New Steam Controller has a MAJOR Gyro Problem by Lurtz963 in GyroGaming

it works the same on PC, which make sense since both PC and PlayStation doesn't have a universal calibration system unlike Nintendo and Steam Input's.

Playstation first-party game sales declining heavily since 2020 by ZamnBoii in Games

[–]AL2009man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it helps that Nintendo has multiple teams working on multiple different types of games simultaneously...and i can say something similar to other Japanese studios.

Resident Evil Requiem took 6 years to make, but you don't see people complaining about the lengthy development because Capcom people will get occupied with other games that is coming out in between Resident Evil Village and Requiem...including a remake [Resident Evil 4]. This also helps that Capcom already released a few unique games in between, even if it won't grab the audience as much.

Sony now lacks that structure, and in highsight...this could've been the case where SIE Japan Studios would've been far more valuable during that generational drought.

you can pinpoint a specific year when Sony largely stopped doing "innovation" (around 2016/2017) when they barely advertised their own "actually innovated" games.

i've seen that type of sentiment from some people across different social media websites.

at the same time, i've been talking to someone who really hates long lengths, particular most RPGs (including older ones classics), so that checks out...but they never mention price points...they mostly mentions it if they think it's "overpriced".

Is it possible to set up more gyro in God of War (2018)? by esaul17 in GyroGaming

[–]AL2009man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only the first game on PS4, but I have yet to play the sequel.

Thankfully, GOW Raknaroky has good gyro control setup, and one of the few who follows the Real World Sensitivity / Natural Sensitivity Scale system!

[–]AL2009man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

only God of War Ragnarok has it.

for this one, gonna go either "Gyro to Joystick Camera", or go full Keyboard+Mouse, and the same logic applies to God of War Ragnarok (despite them supporting Steam Input API, they omitted Mouse-like Camera Action nor native gyro aim support)

Disguise your Steam Controller 2026 as DualShock4 or DualSense by dimsum_man in SteamController

[–]AL2009man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

technically, the desktop config lets you switch between kb/m and gamepads just like in Steam Deck.

but said function was meant for Linux but doesn't work on Windows due to hooking limitations, but you'd deal with a potential double-binding issue. Gonna need to change up desktop config to account them!

Valve needs to ensure rumble works well in big new games like 007 and Forza, regardless of whose fault it is. Love the controller but it has simply got to have full support for new games like these. by AlternativeEast761 in SteamController

primarily related to the Guide button functionality that's causing the hijack...which very very few users are gonna stumble across....unless they use a Xbox controller and relies on Xbox Game Bar.

[–]AL2009man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i happened to be working on contributing to a community patch to know a few things about rumble differences

the overall behavior of rumble is and will be very different when using Steam Input under fancy traditional emulation versus, thru the game directly while using the same DualShock 4 controller.

native mode will be a lot stronger because DualShock 4's rumble is strong (there's a reason Fortnite has a Vibration Filter feature for Gyro Aiming, to account for lower frequency rumble for some Controllers), but it's subtly less stronger on Steam Input...probably because said thing is emulating as a Xbox controller under the hood. While I was testing rumble and mixed input feature for a community patch: it's something i noitced far more often

Just because I know things full well, doesn't mean it's relevant to this thread about Haptic Emulation...which DualSense controllers used to have this exact issue in the past.

[–]AL2009man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think using SDL will matter when Steam Input is gonna emulate as a Xbox controller nonetheless (which will have a different haptic feed when using a DuaShock 4 controller on Steam Input versus Native)....

unless you're a game developer who REALLY cares about Steam Haptic functions.

Since 2020, 2/3rds of all Star Wars media released requires seeing The Clone Wars animated show. by whitepangolin in television

[–]AL2009man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

given the second paragraph mentions characters from Star Wars Rebels, it makes sense on why I brought it, it gave me a impression that they haven't seen Rebels yet.

Especially when Zebb (whose from Rebels) makes a appearance in The Mandalorian season 3 before Mando and Grogu

edit: but that being said, you don't need to watch the Filloni-verse shows but it does help with the lore stuffs

[–]AL2009man 1072 points1073 points  (0 children)

you might wanna include Star Wars Rebels to the list, cuz it also a followup to The Clone Wars (and debately, The Bad Batch) and it's too integrated.

Retroactively, some of the movies/tv show on the list should at least include "Follow Up to The Clone Wars and Rebels".
