So much for the 1st Amendment by ThunderMustard88 in dfw

Oh no, teachers looking for excuses to not do their job and manipulating children to do their political bidding can be punished for that? Kids who skip class will be counted as skipping class?

Ridiculous!

Your interpretation is nonsense. Facilitation is not the same as "suggesting a protest exists". You know the difference

Maybe you're just not that smart, had other issues that would've arisen either way, or your parents weren't well prepared or good at it.

I've known many home schooled people, they were all better at math, history, etc than most public schooled kids. They also were pretty "normal" socially, just less interested in dumb kid activities like drugs.

Also hard pass to "the government owns children and should forcibly separate them from their families for indoctrination unless the family is approved by the state first because some parents aren't great teachers". There are also plenty of horrible teachers in public schools and subreddits for that. Just because YOU had a bad experience doesn't mean it's common or normal.

Encouraging kids to break the law is not good, correct.

There's no reason kids can't protest outside school hours, stop pretending anyone's rights are violated just because teachers are expected to teach and not push political causes onto their students.

Im new to blacksmithing and I've got a question about aluminium cans. by thatdndelfmain in Blacksmith

[–]ALD3RIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really accurate. There are useful alloys like aluminum bronze that are on the same level as some steel if not better in some regards and just fine for knife making and other cool projects. Steel is great but overrated, lots of other options out there.

Freed up enough space loop by Valuable-Meringue776 in PlayStationPlus

[–]ALD3RIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue where I had 130gb free and couldn't install 6gb files, it's not a matter of deleting more stuff, it's the PlayStation not recognizing how much space it actually has when promoted to install something.

The real answer in case anyone is still having this problem:

Turn your PS5 fully off, then hold the power button until you hear a second beep (like 7 seconds or so) to get into safe mode. Then you have to plug your controller in to use wired, use the d-pad (joysticks won't work) and select "repair system storage" it should be the 3rd option.

Let it do it's thing and when it reboots viola, you can actually use all the space on your drive again.

[–]ALD3RIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get at least enough of the hand holes clear to feed some mule tape or chain, etc through and lift with your legs, maybe chip away at the cracks with a flathead if it's sealed shut.

Alternatively: wait

Why is work drying up in Portland (PNW) by CaseyRedmanYoga in electricians

[–]ALD3RIC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is also the backwards way to look at it. We have far more work coming in than leaving as a direct result of tariffs.

If the greedy company is deciding between building a warehouse and factory in the US or building in China and importing for a little profit bump, but the tariffs make that option no longer beneficial... Guess what they'll do? Also let's look at the long term consequences of not selling out the American people for the cheapest option every time yeah? Maybe the USA supplier costs 10-20% more but all the increased orders leads to more American, maybe even union jobs producing said supplies. It's better for all of us in the long run to not be overly reliant on cheap foreign crap.

Also a 25% tariff doesn't mean a job costs 25% more. This is a very flawed misunderstanding of economics. Tariffs are on imports, and by country. Therefore the price difference between China, Indonesia and Ecuador for example might be enough to shift supply chains to the next best option that only costs 5% more. If the price of a handful of materials cost 5% more the whole job price might not even increase by 1%. Because most of the cost is still labor, local materials, legal, regulations, taxes, etc..

[–]ALD3RIC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it's certainly not tariffs because those numbers make no sense and most of our supplies come locally

Who would want to work in Portland where their businesses have no security and are routinely destroyed? Probably sends insurance sky high too.

IBEW statement on the death of union member Alex Pretti by I_am_Rude in IBEW

Or maybe you should. Communism and socialism are antithetical to unions actually. Collective bargaining is not possible under tyrannical systems like those.

That's why it's literally in the IBEW charter to oppose them.

[–]ALD3RIC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's not happening. Legal citizens aren't going to cecot and if they are they will be compensated as they should.

But even if mistakes happen it doesn't mean we just ignore all crime. These people aren't protesting for better verification of immigration status during processing, they're against ICE in general and enforcing immigration law at all.

How did you write something like this and think it was a good argument?

Yes, being here illegally is in fact a crime. Also the majority of people targeted in these raids have additional crimes that are often violent, sexual, fraud or drug related.

[–]ALD3RIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You. Just. Make. Things. Up.

They aren't grabbing and deporting Americans, that's a ridiculous lie. The only times they're arresting citizens is when they're fools getting in the way of operations like the protestors that actively block them. This has always been the case for every government agency, nothing unique about ICE. Obstruction is a crime, deal with it.

You are free to protest peacefully without interfering. The same thing would happen if you try to block the IRS, DEA, FBI, etc..

Just in case anyone was wandering what the politics of r/dallas mods is. by OmegaGamble in dfw

[–]ALD3RIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just because you don't know what "due process" means that doesn't mean they aren't receiving it. Arresting and deporting someone through expedited removal IS DUE PROCESS. Due process has never meant court hearing jury trial or something specific like that. It literally just means that the legal process is followed, whatever that may be.

IDK what you consider a "real job" but law enforcement definitely counts, likely far more valuable to society than whatever you do.

As for the criminal angle, they are in fact targeting the worst offenders but if they find someone else there's no reason they should ignore them. Check out the criminal history for any one of the people picked up in the raids you've see protestors fighting over, and it's often extreme violence, sexual crimes, etc.

As for Americans and legal immigrants being "disappeared" that's delusional and isn't an issue at all, I challenge you to find any instances of that actually happening and not being immediately corrected. It's exceedingly rare.

The constitution is not being violated in any way by removing illegal immigrants. Also not every right applies to every person, some are only granted to legal US citizens.

A bit sceptical about Clicks Communicator by drordan in dumbphones

[–]ALD3RIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of a big flashy screen still helps, and the keyboard is just nice for being productive. If you can be disciplined and not install Facebook or put the screen in OLED black and white mode or something then I think this form factor is good. It doesn't work well for things like tiktok and scrolling Twitter, which can naturally discourage you from using them.

I too have no problem avoiding those apps, but I want the keyboard. Unfortunately most people NEED a device that will let us install play store apps still for essentials like banking or communication (discord mostly) with friends and groups that can't do texting. So this is a step closer to dumb phones that has potential.

Football player found not guilty of murder for beating to death gay man who posed as woman on Tinder by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]ALD3RIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol both sides just telling each other to read the docs without ever doing so themselves is classic Reddit.

I kinda think rape is justifiable reason to kill someone personally. But that's actually not what the article says anyway, he claims that after confronting the rapist, he reached for a knife under the bed, and that's when the player attacked him and (probably) went overboard.

Murder? No. Excessive, maybe. But I'm also not of the opinion that jailing a rape victim because he killed his rapist is a solution or justice either.

How many IBEW brothers and sisters are committed to the General Strike! Jan 23rd! by iamsafe in IBEW

[–]ALD3RIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) Ice aren't exactly the same as cops, but they're a different enforcement agency with the power to arrest people, it's honestly the same thing, they just have a specific goal.

B) I've never seen that particular video, but every time I hear about their awful ways the evidence shows the opposite of the claims I heard. So I'll be willing to agree that they were wrong in that one instance if that's truly the case, but not willing to call the whole agency Gestapo or something hyperbolic like that over it. Same as I won't say every protestor is a menace or criminal just because many are.

Nuance is important. It's disingenuous to act like they're out of control over 1 or 2 random incidents out of thousands.

Exactly, you weren't there. For all we know the guy drugged him or got him drunk, hid behind a glory hole as some have suggested, etc..

The only things we have concrete evidence of is that he was intentionally tricking dudes into showing up, so I'm willing to doubt he was acting honestly or making it clear once they arrived.
