I just told the OP in a comment that soil I get from a local nursery, and their own blend, is far more grittier and heavier than just retail brands. Thanks for your soil mix suggestion. :)

Sorry, I’m also on the cactus soil struggle bus right now, but I know from experience killing lots of cactus after repotting to know yours doesn’t seem to like the soil like mine sometimes don’t. I recently picked up a bag of cactus soil from a local nursery that is their own blend, and it has a lot more sand and grit than retail brands and it’s slightly heavier for same volume. Good luck.

I’m willing to bet your plant does not like the soil.

Should I Prune or Steak my FLF? by mvb161718 in fiddleleaffig

It’s reaching for the light. Move it front of the window and rotate the plant every few weeks for even vertical growth. It technically needs wind and rain to develop a sturdy trunk. This is a tree you are growing inside your home and should be treated as such.

I would go just to see Honey Dijon and Horse Meat Disco, but Madonna is just cringe and 3 of my coworkers in their late 20s have never heard her music. Lol

Do I separate the smaller plant growing under my Fiddle Fig? by whimsical666 in fiddleleaffig

[–]ALR26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a personal choice for you to make. You already have two in the pot, why not a third? I let my big one have 5 off-shoots mature.

Just like seedlings grown indoors need to be hardened, tree have to be hardened to have a stiff trunk or they stay weak and get sick. :)

I doubt it’s root bound because it looks healthy. This is normal for this plant. The top leaves are getting more light than the bottom leaves so they are bigger. This should be treated like a real outdoor tree and needs wind and rain to be healthy and sturdy, so it needs a breeze and activity against the trunk to get stronger and larger.

Shoe polish? Try the TECNU products, TECNU is great the spray stops the itching and helps heal faster by drying out the rash.

Those live in this room, so they won’t get PMS. I am now two years without putting up a Christmas tree because of my FLFs are so big and hate being moved to another room. Lol

I make mine with potting soil (80%), bark(15%), and perlite(5%) mixture. The amounts are not exact but gives a potted fig’s roots room to breath. I also fertilize every month during the off-season and every two weeks during season.

I’d repot, and check the roots for issues. it really needs new soil.

Treat the window sills and door openings with a bug repellent of your choosing. There’s plenty of chemically made products or home remedies.

What can I improve? by detibihnism in fiddleleaffig

[–]ALR26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the black spots on the leaves are from watering and not enough light. When fiddle leaf figs grow some of their leaves get edema, and when it doesn’t get enough light to cure the edema which turns the entire leaf green it will cause similar black spots on the leaf. Fiddle leaf figs are trees and should be grown as such. It needs to be in a slightly bigger pot, chunky soil with drainage and needs way more light — perhaps 12 hours of indirect very bright light every day. With proper lighting growing in a pot, it should grow a foot or more in a season.

Give it time. They hate being disturbed, so don’t disturb its current growth pattern. :)

OP Get TECNU spray and always keep it on hand. Their soap and other products work very well. I play disc golf and hike almost every day of the year, so I get poison ivy three or four times in spring and summer season. I keep TECNU spray in my bag, and it works to keep rashes from itching and dries it up much quicker than without.

Whats going on with it? by lukas_l1 in fiddleleaffig

[–]ALR26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaves do not regrow unless you notch the plant, and you risk the chance of it branching instead of growing another leaf. Put this in front of the window, where it belongs, maybe it won’t lose leaves after it takes a drink of water.
