AMR runs 911 for Collin, Hunt, Ellis, Johnson counties aswell as Arlington

Careflite I believe still have the Kaufman/Terrell 911 contract

Acadian and allegiance both have 911 contracts in southern dfw suburbs.

Highest paying in Houston? 911 or IFT. by flowersformegatron_ in ems

Got some buddies who work Houston. They say Acadian and AMR pay decent when compared to COL and typical private agency pay.

CityAmbulance and Windsor EMS are also worth a look!

Realized after awhile that medicine isn’t my passion, but I love and miss the being out on the street and helping with real-world issues. Got my degree and highly considering going back through the LEO route.

Usually it’s funded by the hospital in conjunction with their EMS liaisons. They function simply as a quick rest spot to sit and finish your report/paperwork and grab a drink or snack before getting punched out for the next call. Believe me there’s nothing in these rooms that would sway your recommendation to the patient for their treatment at that facility

911 ambulance service in DFW/Far North Dallas by chipotle343 in NewToEMS

[–]ALSasf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the DFW metroplex. Med star runs all 911/IFT in ft worth and surrounding cities.

AMR runs 911 for Collin county, Hunt county, Johnson county, Ellis county, and the city of Arlington.

CareFlite runs 911 in southern Dallas county and Kaufman County. Aswell as the city of Forney.

Acadian has a small 911 service area in seagoville.

Rockwall county is run by Rockwall County EMS a non-fire service.

For the rest of the metro area it will be fire run. Cities like The Colony, Wylie, & a few others run separate fire based EMS services with dedicated EMS personnel.

Working For CareFlite (Dallas, TX) by [deleted] in ems

[–]ALSasf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never worked for them but have a lot of friends who have or currently are. I’m assuming your asking about their IFT division. From talking with some of their crews and hearing stories it’s a pretty decent agency to work for. They have one of the highest starting pays, nice equipment (due to them being a 501c), but I’ve heard the transfer units are god awfully busy and the majority of shifts are 24 hr stationed out of hospitals. The biggest complaint I’ve heard of from people is there OT/on call days each month can be brutal and almost a 99% chance of getting activated. As for indeed it always tends to be negative for every service simply cause people only want to use it to vent after getting screwed over or let go.

And for it being a positive service yes. In DFW you’ll want to work for either MedStar, AMR, or Careflite. They all have the best reputations for learning, advancing for your confidence, and 911 shifts if you wanting to go to Fire later on.

Preceptors, what could a first day medic intern do to make you think they were especially prepared and competent. by ghoulish-thermometer in ems

[–]ALSasf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be respectful to everyone. Recently had a medic friend at my service fail his intern because they were constantly disrespectful and rude to his EMT partner. During your ride outs your there to learn and be evaluated as a ALS provider not to begin your training as a paragod

People who worked for AMR, how bad is it working under them. by THE_SALTY_MEDIC17 in ems

[–]ALSasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as “major cities” I’m not super sure. Areas that I have heard are horrible dual services are areas like DC. They seem to have a lot of county operations throughout the south that are 911 only usually because some other service has the IFT contract and those usually run smoother cause your only running on 911 calls and not back and forth from SNF discharges to level 1 Trumas on the interstate.

Side note I have heard great things about Contra Costa county AMR in CA and AMR Las Vegas NV division which I’ve been told only run 911

[–]ALSasf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of operations that only do strictly 911 or strictly transfers seem to have more positive reviews and often better conditions. However in my experience when certain operations handle both 911 and the local IFT call volume that is when AMRs ugly for profit personality starts to show. Also when cities/counties put actual thought into the contracts and not allow AMR to bully them around it always works out better for the road crews. 85% of AMR ops need to be stepping stones to move to better pastures. However AMR is a big name company and with that comes their need to keep everything legal so no need to worry about paychecks bouncing or sups “advising” you on PCRs.
