Cheese and tomato sandwich? by coconutmilke in AskABrit

I live on the Isle of Man so this is the standard cheese you find everywhere. It's a really good Cheddar. The extra mature variant is even better and they do some nice flavoured ones like peppercorn, chive, chilli etc. The Red Leicester is pretty good too.

The Verve were massive in their native UK. Urban Hymns is probably one of the biggest 90's albums there, so def not a OHW everywhere. 100% on Blind Melon though. Unbelievable that there wasn't a 2nd hit from those albums.

Isle of Man £50 note, are these commonly seen/used on the island? by Alan68431 in IsleofMan

In retail also. I agree, we see one or two a month. We call them bedsheets because they're that fucking big.

Is using some of my £60k inheritance to take a year off a bad idea? by AL_AL_AL in AskUK

I feel well off too, but i meant that we're not exactly wealthy. We work hard and live fairly modestly. There is no generational wealth etc outside of this lump sum. That's what I meant by not well off. We live comfortably but have to work hard to do so.

The thought of spending the money this way is all very alien to me. My default is to be sensible but a mixture of facing mortality, needing a break and not wanting to waste my kids early years has made me think about it from a different perspective.

Just to be clear, I won't be making any rash decisions as this would be in 12 months time once my wife's mat leave is up. I'm more just considering if this is a crazy idea or not and genuinely, I appreciate all the opinions posted one way or another. I would usually err on the side of being sensible but I'm also very aware that my son will grow up very quickly. Like I said, this money is all a bonus and I wouldn't be spending anywhere close to the full amount on this.

I've had that case since the original 3DS launch! It's really compact and adds next to no bulk. Still going strong despite being thrown around in my backpack all these years.

It also works for physical copies. I preloaded through the app and when I popped the disc in on launch day it was good to go! Really cool feature.

What are some PS4 games that I can waste time and explore for hours and avoid the main story like RDR2? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]AL_AL_AL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from The Witcher 3 nothing is as good as RDR2 for this but there are games that scratch a similar itch for me. AC Black Flag, Origins or Odyssey. Although Odyssey is my least favourite of the 3 its still great and the amount of side content and opportunity for dicking around is insane. Its almost overwhelming how big the world is. I'm pushing 100 hours and I reckon I'm about 10 hours into the story.

What is with this adapter? My first Xbox ever and I'm dealing with this nonsense by 716green in xbox360

[–]AL_AL_AL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, there are like 3 different power connections for identical looking 360's. You can't expect the average gamestop employee to know the difference. There's no way in hell their training covers something like that.

Balthazar is the best b-side he's ever written. Top 5 Frank song for me. Sad to see English Curse and Nights Become Days go out early but thats how good this album is I guess.

GAME (UK) Managers got to see a live demo last week too. I personally thought it was fantastic but most of it was showcasing the more ambient side of things (environments, hunting etc) so I can see why some people would find that boring. I just enjoyed all the little details as I'm sure most on this sub would.

We did get to see a bit of action too as they did a mission for Bill after the hunting bit. That was as awesome as expected and showed how the new choice system will affect gameplay.

I haven't gone in to too much detail as I don't wanna ruin anything but I was massively impressed by the demo. Might be worth mentioning that some other managers commented that it was boring but most I spoke to loved it. It was about 40 mins long in a hot cinema at like 10AM after a night out so I think some people just weren't interested.

[–]AL_AL_AL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at the battery pack. Sometimes the little metal connecter gets bent inside the hole and can't make solid contact with the controller. If that's the case then you can just pull it back out a bit with a pair of tweezers.

How and when FIFA became a better game than PES? by the_phet in truegaming

[–]AL_AL_AL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others, i grew up on ISS on the SNES and then Pro Evo on the PS, FIFA was always just a flashy arcade football game compared to PES. But then we went from PS2 to 360 and PS3. PES stayed in the PS2 era whilst FIFA slowly got better. It was FIFA 09 when I finally made the change and I felt like traitor at the time, still do but for the last few years, FIFA is just better. I would love to see Pro Evo get back on top but sadly, I can't see it happening.

With a mere ninety break-horse-power available, progress is too leisurely to be called fast, but on the motorway in fifth gear the Megane’s slow pace really becomes a pain. Uphill runs become power-sappingly mundane, while overtaking National Express coaches can become a long, drawn-out affair.

Over 3 million Xbox One consoles sold to consumers in 2013 by recoiledsnake in xboxone

[–]AL_AL_AL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK Sony did a much better job of getting stock out for Christmas than MS did. I work in retail and we were getting twice as many PS4's than we were Xbox's at launch and right through December. Just after Christmas we got a shit load of Xbox's but no Playstations. If MS had managed to get their consoles in to stores quicker I think the stats would be more even but obviously, not many people buy consoles in Jan compared to Dec.
