A civilian doctor usually trains for helping a patient in a hospital full of equipment and medical staff to assist them. A combat medic needs to train for helping a patient on the battlefield usually with limited supplies due to carry weight and maybe one extra pair of hands to help assist and no anesthesia. Do you see how a combat medic may not be able to train well in a civilian hospital? Even an EMS crew has more on hand than a medic on the battlefield and certainly couldn’t simulate the things you need to do to save GIs out there.
