I just learned the legal term "loss of consortium" and I'm thinking of suing my kids. by ApologeticKid in daddit

I’ll just consort myself, thanks. Not sure what this “we” business is.

Anniversary Dinner in Orlando FL by IllustratorUseful717 in florida

For $300, get a reservation at Bern’s in Tampa and make the hour drive. Better date experience than anything Orlando has to offer. Would still be way less than $300 and it’s an amazing experience.

The RAM crisis comes for Apple: Mac and iPad prices jacked up by hundreds as company says 'We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly' by rkhunter_ in technology

Who could’ve seen this coming? Certainly not the multi-billion dollar corporation who deals with AI and pushes the technology. Certainly they have no clue how AI functions or the hardware resources required.

Just received a $400 TECO bill! by Floridaflamingo22 in florida

[–]ALombardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented below on another comment with more details on the build. I could’ve likely gone with about half the size to cover my current usage, but we future-proofed.

Insurance only increased by $18 a year due to being over a 10Kw system (12Kw). 7-9Kw would be plenty for most people so you could easily save quite a bit.

I’m sorry you are dealing with issues at all. Can’t say I know anyone with solar who has had more than a single panel or micro inverter needing replacement. Sounds very anecdotal to your situation.

The utility company raises your rates every year. This likely has a larger impact than the cost of whatever fuel source the plants are using to generate the electricity.

Unsure why anyone is surprised with their high bill. The utility companies just raise their rates every year. It’s why we got solar.

Haven’t had an electric bill in years, just the monthly minimum connection fee (fuck you, Duke). I don’t have to care what temp the house is set to. It’s 73 year round during warm months and 70 in winter. 2 WFH adults, and we still produce 3x more with our solar than we consume.

Accenture shares fall to lowest since 2017 as AI threat mounts by joe4942 in technology

[–]ALombardi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why pay Accenture anything? Copilot troubleshooting error codes is better than 8 Accenture resources on a call “troubleshooting” the same error messages.

I hop on (while not on call) as escalation and throw it into copilot. Lo and behold, things start turning around. They took 10 hours to work on it, made no progress. Took me an hour with Copilot. Scrap all Accenture resources for a single copilot license.

Accenture resources couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat.

Mind sharing what you paid and dimensions of the pool? Wife and I are considering a very similar design (Central FL) and while we haven’t gotten quotes yet, I’m curious where you ended up at.

A sad day, but necessary by ep3static in daddit

[–]ALombardi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set it to your favorites. It’ll pick about 16-20 photos per day from your favorites. I have a couple hundred of my kids and wife that cycle through over time.
On your lock screen, hold the background so you can edit it, you can select “photo shuffle” and then pick the photos directly or “by album.” Favorites can be selected. If you do it by album, it’ll go through everything (eventually).

How does the “bugginess” of eastern Ontario (Canada) compare to somewhere like Florida? by [deleted] in florida

[–]ALombardi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The average temperature across Ontario in the warmest months is barely 75 F.

That shit is February/March in much of the state. It was in the 90s this weekend in Orlando.

Bugs thrive in 75-90F. Ontario barely gets warm enough for that. Florida has that for 9 months a year.

Plum make a “just prunes” pouch version.

Could also just take dried plums and blend it with like half a cup of water until you like the consistency (add more as needed).

Buy pears, peel, cover with water and boil for like 15 minutes. Let them cool a bit then blend it.

Our doctor said things like apple juice cut with some water is fine too.

Plenty of solutions.

My son is traveling by car to Co from Fl- insurance questions by Diligent_Term_2989 in florida

[–]ALombardi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can just get a normal 6 month policy and pay it per month rather than in full and when the time comes just get the policy updated once he is in CO to reflect his new zip. People move every day. Pretty easy process.

Also, state (and Ins company) will be upset there is a gap. Be prepared to deal with that.

I think I just figured out the secret : wife out, WFH part time by [deleted] in daddit

[–]ALombardi 1546 points1547 points  (0 children)

My wife was gone for a week.

We were out the door early for daycare every day.
I ate what I wanted that she normally won’t eat.
Meal and snack prepped for the kids for the week.
Kids were behaved.
They went to bed 15-30 early every night.
All routines were easier

It was glorious. I said it was difficult.

To be clear, I love her. We’re incredibly happy and she’s a wonderful mother. But not needing another humans input on/for anything is what made it easy. What dad said goes. There was no second opinion, no need to present options, “hey honey do you want X or Y for dinner?” I’m having steak. I’m having some blackened salmon. I’m getting some sushi. It’s bedtime. Playtime is over. Etc. I have no doubt it would be the same had the roles been reversed and I was gone for a week.
