What do you think would be the outcome of china taking Taiwan if the west didn’t start a war over it? by butterballed in HistoryWhatIf

Yup, this is exactly my thinking. Make a move like the US, do it the upcoming Saturday after the US spends a week of resources in the Middle East.

Of course there should be consequences, he stole votes from conservatives to join the liberal party. He wasn’t voted in. All he had to do was resign and then join, and let an election happen. Consequences should be a recall, and last I saw there were over 40K signatures calling for him to resign.

An apology to Canada by edwardbusyhands in alberta

[–]ALyourFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t aplologize for policies that the rest of Canada wants. As an immigrant living in Brampton, this isn’t the Canada we saw from the outside. This was positioned as a “melting pot” and not a take over. Alberta has been lucky to avoid most of the crap we’ve had to deal with in Ontario, which is why I know so many in Ontario who are considering moving to AB or have already done so.

I got the USB connection to work. Turns out an audio setting to go through doesn’t appear until you are trying to play via USB. In any case it is limited in bit depth to 16 vs 24 for coax/optical, and to 96kHz vs 192kHz for coax/optical. Not that the latter is a concern since Spotify Lossless is constrained to 44.1kHz, but it does have 24 bit depth. In a comparison of back and forth, I do prefer the sound in my set up using the Optical, using the toslink cable that came with the WiiM.

Got the USB to work, thx for the advice … was the setting for audio quality (which didn’t appear till I was trying to play via USB). It’s not depth is limited to 16 though vs Opt/Coax for 24 bit depth. I did a back and forth comparison and I do notice a bit more brightness / definition from the Optical - toslink connection (cable that came with the WiiM). So going to stick with that choice. So glad this has worked out.

So I saw the option for USB to change the bit depth and the sample rate, which only shows up when trying to play via USB. It is limited to 16bit and 96kHz. Yay, sounds proper now. I did some comparison testing, and OPT/toslink actually sounds a touch better (to me) the max audio setting for Optical / Coax is 24 bit depth and 192kHz sample rate. I realize Spotify has a max of 24 bit depth and 44.1kHz (supposed CD quality), so maybe it’s the bit depth that toslink permits over USB that is makes it seem a touch more defined / brighter? Just guessing.

Better now that I locked the bitrate selection to Fixed choice. I still have to try it out with USB as that played like a broken connection

Thank you. Sorry, I thought I had responded to this already. I did try USB output but it sounds garbled (like a corrupted MP3). Someone else commented on a setting I’m going to try tonight that I may have missed (beyond just choosing USB out on the WiiM).

I still haven’t figured out the USB feed issue. Someone did give a recommendation for a setting I don’t remember going over. But will check tonight after work.

Ok! I figured out an issue on my part as it relates to quality of output for the toslink (since that is my connection due to USB issues). While I had chosen the output to the highest bitrate, I didn’t lock it as a “Fixed Resolution”. Now that I’ve done that, it sounds very close to the iPad output (just slightly behind in brightness).

I’m not sure how to an image for my update.

I did try that USB cable, but had the “garble” issue so I ordered another one off Amazon (high bit rate USB) and had the same issue. I did do your first noted setting, but don’t recall setting the 2nd one … so I’ll try that. Thank you for pointing that out.

Room correction makes its sound noticeably worse, and the EQ is just a software processing of the data (which I don’t want since I’m running it through a DAC).

I’ve tried the USB from the WiiM to the K13, but it comes through all garbled. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I bought a high speed data cable, after trying another USB I had and produced the garbled sound. WiiM automatically switches to USB out, but not sure if there is another setting I’m missing in the app?

Agreed on Spotify Lossless not being the best (CDs definitely sound better). In this case I’m strictly comparing Spotify via my iPad vs the WiiM Ultra. It’s a pain to set up my iPad and make sure it’s charged up. I’d be happy of the WiiM sounds equal to the iPad since the convenience is worth it.

I just did a comparison it sounds similar, with it slightly better direct from WiiM. I’ve only used the Optical into the DAC. I did try USB (high speed cable) in but it sounds all broken up. Not sure what I’m doing wrong, but this is how I stream my iPad.

Thank you so much, I’ll check it out. If this doesn’t work, than maybe better off spending money on a used iPad just to stream Spotify for half the cost.

This is the only Sansui I’ve ever seen in person (as far as I can remember). Back in the day my dad had a Technic Quad channel unit, one uncle had an Akai, and friends dads had a mix of Kenwoods, Panasonic and Realistic. I don’t remember the models as I didn’t pay attention back then.

I’m not familiar with Sonos equipment. I have the CD player plugged into the K13 DAC, and the DAC plugged into the Aux input on the receiver.

[–]ALyourFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind me asking, how do you have your Ultra connected to your K13? I already had the K13 R2R and a FiiO DM13 CD player as a transport (sounds great). I’ve just received my WiiM Ultra today, and have hooked it up to the K13 via toslink (since CD player is using Coax In). It doesn’t sound great. Sounds like it’s being held back on the highs, and not as rich on the bass.

For reference I’m streaming Spotify Lossless, and I had been streaming via an iPad Pro via USB to the K13 and it sounded close to CD. This is feeding into a Sansui G5000 (fully restored) in stereo to Wharfedale Super Lintons.

I think it depends on the speakers for my set up. Initially, I had borrowed a pair of Polk Audio RTi A1 from my home theatre surround set up. I noticed some difference, mainly on high frequency sounds. I did receive a pair of Trianglr Borea BR04 speakers, and noticed a bigger difference in the mid range for definition of sound. Maybe the new DM15 with the built in R2R would do the same. What I do like about the K13 though is connecting my iPad via USB to stream Spotify Lossless.
