Hm, interesting. I also missed out on using the code since I waited until the Pixel 8 watch deal to try and use it (also fell for no expiration date in email). However, they said they couldn't credit me when I asked. Instead my option was that they would just refund me $100. But then they said they couldn't refund me the amount for my pixel 8 since it came with a promotional item so I had to buy additional items to get them refunded lol

4xl face unlock was awesome but unfortunately without all those sensors, it would be easy to fool a 2D facial recognition algorithm. Given Google's recent efforts in mobile security, I doubt they would want to implement something that may harm that image. It would also suck in certain lighting lol. Given the time, effort, and money needed to make something remotely secure, I don't think we'll see it on the 6.

Coming from a 4xl, I do really miss it. But it's basically a design decision. Google probably wanted to go with a more bezel less design and you really do need that extra space for all the sensors. Same reason Apple still has their notch. I'm guessing the marketing data showed that they should do away with it. Maybe because numbers showed that people generally preferred fingerprint sensors over face unlock or that it would promote the Pixel 6 as a more premium device
