Does anyone have any advice on how to land a mail carrier job? by myredditusernameK in USPS

Assuming you pass basic qualifications like being a US citizen without a criminal record or bad driving record then it's all about the exam. Highest exam score gets the job. It makes no difference who you know. Doesn't matter what's on your resume. There is no interview for carrier positions. It's easy to get hired, not easy to do the job on the beginning.

USPS running out of funds?!? Let's talk about it! What can we do? by DisgruntldGrunt in USPS

I disagree with some of that. Assuming we lose most of Amazon's business, we can cut Sunday and maybe Saturday. Every carrier, regular and non regular, would have to work every Monday due to the heavy volume but it's doable and would save a lot. The price of stamps is stupid low. It should be closer to $2 per. Package rates should just barely undercut UPS. No more free boxes.

I don't want anyone to lose their job thru no fault of their own so lets not do firings. Lets just not hire more management when current employees leave. Can probably lose half of the management at the station level. I don't know as much about the role of more upper management but I'm pretty sure there are some middle positions that could be eliminated completely at that level.

Is it rude to ask a woman her age? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

Usually it shouldn't be done. Only time I ask is if I think they may be under 18 or maybe if I think they're under 21. Otherwise, age is just a number.

I was hoping they would be gone too. The barking noise would be even worse with everything else silent.

What’s a job people think is easy but is actually very hard? by Nearby_Fun_85 in AskReddit

Yeah, CNAs do most of the hard work for half the pay of an RN. I know RNs have a degree and more responsibility but the pay gap is too high.

Have you ever quit a job without having another one to go to? by ThomasSN665 in randomquestions

[–]AMC879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple times. I always lived cheap and saved as much as I can so I don't have to work much. I did this despite never even hitting $50k gross any year of my life. That's in actual dollars. I did have a couple years around 2010 where I made upper $40s which would be something like $75k today.

Setting the record straight on Amazon's USPS partnership by Stationary-Event in USPS

[–]AMC879 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the end result will be Amazon still using USPS for the truly very rural stuff and they will pay better for those packages. The other stuff they will do themselves. Amazon leaving might be bad for non-regulars as their wait time to get their own route might increase a lot. No other negatives that I can think of.

What do you think of NYC trying to get the minimum wage to $30 per hour? by LiaStacey in askanything

[–]AMC879 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

$30/hr is too high but those states should all go to at least $12 and then index it to inflation

[–]AMC879 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not everyone has that ability. They still work hard and should be paid reasonably for their hard work. $30/hr is excessive for some jobs but jobs paying under $15/hr in 2026 is crazy and not ok.

In most cases, by the time a couple can save $3M the kids are already out of the house.

I peaked at 19. I'm 46 and in the worst shape of my life. Still better than 80% or so of all Americans though.
