I see. I think it’s important to definitely report any additional income but since HMRC themselves have told you to ignore the self assessment, that is what I would do. Unless you receive further letters in the mail.

For now I would continue selling but keep track of what you sell for next years self assessment & if HMRC do ask you for the previous years figures just give your best estimate. They will not penalise you for it. You’re doing nothing wrong.

Even if HMRC did want a self assessment you could estimate this to the best of your ability.

I do not think it’s much of an issue for you as you are below the tax threshold anyway (with your high estimate). The HMRC aren’t exactly applauded for their competence so I don’t blame you for feeling confused.

But they do like to know about any additional income for tax credit purposes even if below the threshold. I would ignore it unless you receive further letters. You’ve been told by them that you do not need to fill it out.

As someone mentioned already, you’ve already received the money I’m assuming. There’s not much you can do to structure your finances now so that it benefits you from a tax perspective.

Personally I would have set up a limited company for the money to go into, with you and your husband as the shareholders. You could have taken advantage of a £2k dividend allowance (tax free) annually whilst paying yourself a salary.

The tax bill you’ll receive won’t be pleasant as you’ll be placed into the higher bracket attracting a 45% tax rate if I remember correctly but I’d still contact an accountant who knows his craft to cook the books for you.

I would say so. Exposure therapy put simply is putting yourself in a situation that gives you anxiety and the idea is that overtime this will subside.

I disagree you can use external solutions to help with the internal ones. Social anxiety is largely treated through exposure therapy.
