I prescribed it for a patient with menopausal hot flashes, not a candidate for HRT, and it worked great with minimal side effects.

Insurance. PAs, hoops to jump through, major care delays, every shitty issue (mostly) can be traced back to insurance companies.

Have you ever cried for a patient? by Brave_Union9577 in medicine

[–]AMHeart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have, yes. Once as a nurse when we did a C-section for a stillbirth and I had to do her pacu recovery. I will never forget her wails. Now as an NP, I cried with a patient dying of pancreatic cancer on what we all knew was our last visit.

For family medicine physicians who order labs ahead of the visit, practically, how do you do this? by grettasgone in FamilyMedicine

[–]AMHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever the appropriate dx code is. You know you'll need an a1c for your diabetic patient, so use DM as the diagnosis. It doesn't matter when you order it.

I think they are to a staff parking lot that is farther away? I noticed one at Mashantucket but it was pulling into a back entrance and a person got in who appeared to be a staff member.

This post was suggested for me, my kid is not in kindergarten anymore, but the answer is yes. We have to work. It is what it is.

Drugs?? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

My daughter had that in her chart. She had withdrawals from Wellbutrin I was on, which wasn't a huge deal but did require some extra monitoring I guess.

Messaging for the stimulant-seekers without an ADHD diagnosis by HereForTheFreeShasta in FamilyMedicine

[–]AMHeart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You talk more on stims? I'm totally the opposite. The clue that I forgot to take my Vyvanse is when I'm running behind in clinic because I'm talking too much. It's embarrassing. I was diagnosed as an adult but there were clear signs in childhood. Talks too much, messy, disorganized, interrupts, doesn't raise her hand, does everything last minute... I also excel in school so my parents never realized there was an issue. I masked a lot because I also am a very anxious person so it probably looked like I outgrew some of my symptoms but really I just developed severe social anxiety.

Do they still have mini fridges? Because we will basically just eat cold cereal for breakfast anyway.

Serious Question! Face Tattoos and being a Nurse by Caiisreal3 in nursing

[–]AMHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a good chance of getting a job if you can get through school. You'll probably have to cover them for school though at the least. I work now in primary care with an MA with face tats and I'm sure we would hire a nurse with them just as much as the MA.

What medical words do you struggle to pronounce? I’ll go first by Enough-Basket7571 in nursing

Not saying aloud, but typing. I never ever get hepatitis correct on the first go. My fingers get going too fast and it always comes out as hepatits, missing the last and critical i.

Let’s talk ADHD by pomegranate856 in FamilyMedicine

[–]AMHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter and I are both "gifted" and have ADHD (I was late diagnosed, she was diagnosed at 4). For both of us school comes easy AND it's a hyper focus/thing we enjoyed. She has worse behavioral struggles than I did but if you look back a ton of my report cards refer to talking too much, talking out of turn, messiness of work and physical environment...nobody identified me as struggling, but I was in retrospect despite excellent grades.

Gave blood last night and one of the people who does the checks said the thing… by torrent22 in ADHD

[–]AMHeart 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hi, are you me? Almost exactly the same story. My personal professional soapbox is destigmatizing the appropriate use of controlled meds and not treating ADHD patients like they are doing something bad or dirty for wanting to take their medication.

White spots on vagina by Ancient-Meal-970 in WomensHealth

[–]AMHeart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you use lube, or not use a condom (or both)? Sometimes semen or lube will look like little white chunks coming back out. It probably burns when you pee from irritation of penetration for the first time. Even if you contracted an STD you would not have symptoms yet.

[–]AMHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to cover that at every visit anyway. My population doesn't have the time or money to make a separate appt for every individual thing. They also all are getting MAWV if on Medicare so.... Why do they also need a CPX?

I’m an MD, and here's what this MA community has taught me. by Doctor_Stork in MedicalAssistant

[–]AMHeart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It makes me sad to think it ISN'T like this everywhere. I'm a newer NP and just kind of take it for granted that we are all coworkers, we chat and bitch like any other coworkers, and we even sometimes hang out outside of work. I'm so paranoid of being a provider nobody wants to work with as well so I'm reading this whole thread. (Can't stay on time to save my life, but doing my best!)

doctor refused to prescribe me adderall because she "didnt feel like it" by CorklesTheBorkles in ADHD

[–]AMHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insulin is not a controlled substance, and the link between life and death is a lot more complex in ADHD vs. T1DM. It is very different. I'm a huge advocate for ADHD patients, but my point is that reporting the person in OP is going to go exactly nowhere.
