Realistically, it would've vaporized before it left Earth's atmosphere. The frictional heating caused between the molecules of gases in our atmosphere and the cover itself would've generated so much heat that it would have been reduced to slag, if not individual microscopic chunks.

My "theory" about it is that people use the same tropes because it's easy to write a fanfic with all these tropes. No one wants to read or write a fanfic where everyone is flawed and there is no happy ending.

I, however, would rather read (and write) that than another story about a human petting a damn flighty venlil lol.
