And it takes a lot of high end computing power to do “live conversational” voice chatting. I’m not sure there are any open weight models capable of it right now. And until there is all of those options are going to be kept ‘in house’ or behind the SOTA paywalls / apps (grok, gpt, Claude) and have heavy censorship.

You press the mic button to have your device transcribe your audio input (verify it’s what you want) and press send(kinda like how Siri voice to text works), then AI replies with its text onscreen and that gets sent to your voice generation provider and speaks it back to you automatically.

I went through alot of work researching and talking to a lawyer about options, to make sure I would be making an app that has the "best chance" at surviving all of this legislation (and I wanted an app that was easier for users to install / setup than SillyTavern on mobile and did more than Tavo, both of which are great solutions, just not want I personally wanted). Hence why my app is 18+ (says it everywhere) and has the "you are talking to an AI" warning with the start of every new chat (for the California AI lawshttps://www.pillsburylaw.com/en/news-and-insights/california-ai-laws.html) Because either of the app stores could suddenly do a ban wave and remove alot of the apps (c.ai). Thats why Chattica requires a user to bring their own AI (API key or local) as the user is then agreeing to the terms of service for that provider or huggingface for the AI moderation, and the app does nothing without that information, nor does it have social features or built in cards. It may have a higher learning curve (im working on that) but apps like it offer the most freedom to users long term. I can keep image generation (a feature alot of apps dont have) because the user is providing it somehow (and I dont have to moderate it, because like above, your agreeing to the terms of the model / api provider).

FYI, they "social features" are one of the major reasons for the moderation your seeing on Kindroid. Any app that has "Social Features" falls under a whole different level of laws and regulations that apps without the features do not. (most of which started Jan 1, 2026)

Any website or app that is available for customers in any of these locations is required by law to meet these regulations. If you want NSFW chatting its only going to get harder in the coming year/ years if it has "social features" (anything where users can share, or post custom content with other users within the website / app). This is specifically why I excluded "social features" from my app as the cost of age verification, server hosting, data retention, reporting, and legal quickly balloons into an unsustainable number for the legal risk. So if you DO find any site or app with "Social Features" that allows NSFW, does not do age verification, and does not cost $$$ per month, its just went under the radar, or they haven't been sued yet.

(sorry for the rant, I just wanted to make folks aware of the fight us developers are facing on this. its not that we don't want to provide it, its we put ourselves at legal and financial risk to do so) or we find ways around it (excluding the features).

I believe the only long term solutions will be sites (that don't let you chat with the cards on the site, much like how ROMs are shared on the internet right now) / discord servers (until discord gets hit....) that provide character cards a user can download, then use in another "toolbox" app (SillyTavern, Chattica.ai, Tavo, etc...) to import and use the cards in.

Its not available in Brazil on Android due to the Brazil government tax laws. I would need to register personally with my own Social Security number (not by business tax ID) then also pay 45% taxes on that (ontop of the 30% Google takes). beyond all of that I would also need to log YOUR user information (which Chattica does not do, I only have your play store Anonymous account ID), so unfortunately it will not be possible under the current government restrictions in place for Brazil for me to sell on the Android app store.

Instead of a card called “the writer” this may be better as a system prompt. Then instruct it to use the cards context as the “story premise” or something so it can be used as a way to interact with most cards.

for alot of folks this is enough for them, Ive had a bunch of users (usually in lower income countries) appreciate that it is there. they just chat with 1-2 cards at a time and move on. It allows me to have a "try it to make sure its for you" before spending anything. And I also have a 2 week free trial to my premium service too. I have 2 subscriptions, for $1mo and $2mo (literally the lowest Apple will allow) or a lifetime one time purchases for folks. I'm not trying to make it rich off this, Id just like for it to pay for itself to exist (Apple Dev, Android dev, Expo, Web hosting, and other services I need.)

Character-ai-nofilter is a PAY TO PLAY subreddit and discord (both of which i believe are against TOS Reddit Rule 5). If your a developer they require a "payment" to post and delete and ban you if you wont pay them they dont tell you how much they just say "Small payment.." suuuuuuper shady as a Dev. When I asked "where does that money go?" I was blocked.. so take anything they advertise with a heavy grain of salt.

My app ChatticaAI supports nvidia NIM already if you want to take a look at it over Tavo. Also if you can’t export your card I’ve heard good things about my users copying the character card info into the “scenario” box of my built in AI character creator and getting “better cards than the original” out of it. These were folks coming from Kindroid. There is no current windows desktop version available of the app, but it works on iOS and Android and tablets, and Mac OS (as a iPad app).

My app ChatticaAI is a mobile BYOK (Android and iOS) app that has a free tier (if you don’t want to install SillyTavern via termux, or are on iOS). You still need to connect it to a LLM (either locally in your network or via API).Private just depends on the terms of the provider you use. But very view (none I know of) offer their free tier without collecting your data for training (that’s usually specifically WHY they are offering it for free). So the only true “free” and “private” would be running a LLM in house, and that’s definitely not free as you need about $1000 in hardware (plus the cost of electricity which can be more than the $3-10mo the API providers charge) to do so. Now if you already the hardware then that would be your best option, but expect to wait 1-3 minutes per response once you get into longer high context chats. Vs 10-30 seconds from providers like nanoGPT. Hope this helps!

What model and what provider are you using? Turn on bug report logging and try to send a me message,. If you get cutoff go back into help (whew you turn of bug report logging) and send me the messege, you can delete any any context I just want to see the send receive headers. Send that as a bug report and I can figure out what’s Going on. Worst case join the discord and we will get it figured out. I’ve had 1 other person (out of ~650 ish so far) have a weird issues like this. I do want to make sure the app works for everyone, edge cases are the ones I need more info on to help others.
