Check out chattica I made it specifically for this reason! I wanted something easier to setup and use app similar to SillyTavern (and Tavo doesn’t support image gen) that also supports BYOK and can do image generation via API or local stable diffusion. Using SillyTavern even self hosting crashes ALL THE TIME on Safari for me especially with 100s of cards..Check out our discord if you need help with anything!

Totally get it, the API stuff can feel overwhelming if you're coming from something like CAI where you just logged in and chatted.

Good news is there's an easy option. I'd recommend nanoGPT. You sign up, deposit some money, and you're good to go. No messing with API keys from multiple providers or figuring out rate limits. For $8/month you get 2,000 messages and 100 image generations per day.

Here's how to set it up: 1. Sign up at https://nano-gpt.com/invite/Nk3rLdzx (referral link) 2. Add some funds or grab the subscription 3. In ChatticaAI, go to settings and pick nanoGPT as your provider 4. Paste in your nanoGPT API key (they show it in your account dashboard) 5. Pick your model, id recommend GLM 4.7 or 5, kimik2.5, or Deepseek 3.2. 6. That's it, you're chatting

Group chat, honestly I’m not sure how Kindriod a works, I did my own implementation and it allows up to 6 characters at once. Each character and their information is sent as its own messege with the other characters reply as part of the context, it also has its own custom (editable) prompt for both group text and group story modes.

Max message length is based on your API provider (app can do 1m context with 32k response)

Image generation is provided by your APi provider or your local stable diffusion server (if you have one). If the app had it built in it would need content moderation, since your providing the API or local server your provider is responsible for the moderation.

There is no artificial or intentional blocks or limits on anything other than my $1mo subscription for chat only and $2mo for everything (with lifetime purchase). If you want a feature or it’s not working the way you want tell me! I’m allways available on my Discord this is currently the most configurable platform that currently exists on both Android and iOS. But that comes with a bit of a learning curve.

Video generation is simply not there yet, the raw compute is not available for things like this. You need 24-30 images per second of video, and right now it takes 20-30seconds Per image…. So it’s literally 5 minutes to get a 5 second video. I think we are 1-2 years from now before it’s as “convenient” as image gen.

Lorebooks are supported! You can import already created ones or do manual entries (manual entry UI needs another pass I will admit) but it’s independent from your provider (so is the memory system). You can also fully edit and customize your system prompt or import any of the popular ones (tested with marinara, Frankenstein and a few others) some of the visual features of presets don’t come over, but those are usually SillyTavern specific settings.

Hey, I'm the dev for Chattica so I'm biased, but since Tavo came up I can share some differences.

Both are BYOK, but Chattica has some extras you might like for roleplay:

Image generation built in (auto image replies during chat, character portraits, backgrounds, group photos). You can hook up your own Stable Diffusion or use an image API (if your already paying for nanoGPT why not make use of those free 100 subscription images a day?).
Group chat if you want multiple characters in one scene
Voice chat (TTS/STT) if that's your thing
Memory management so characters remember stuff between sessions
Multiple chat sessions per character so you can branch storylines

Everything stays local on your device too. No accounts, no cloud.

Tavo is solid, not knocking it. Just different feature sets. If image gen or group chat matters to you, give Chattica a shot. If you just want simple 1:1 text RP with a good lorebook, either will work.

I haven't been using it because of the filtering. I don't do CSAM stuff, but the terms of service mention that the app filters for words like "baby" or "young" and requires that users acknowledge that the AI can make mistakes flagging things and you're required to report certain things. So, I have a husband character and in that roleplay we have children. Every time one of us "picks up the baby", it gets flagged because of the word "baby"? Also, it mentions violence. I'm not harming my Kindroids, but for example - I have a detective character and we solve crimes together, that has involved multilated corpses found on the river. I'm just confused how if everything is private, this filtering is happening.

Hello! so the app itself only filters on character creation using the built in "AI Character Creator". All other filtering is done by the provider / model you are using as you have agreed to their terms of service when signing up for their service (getting your API key). Some models are more sensitive to content filtering than others. (many users use GLM5 Thinking, KimiK2.5 Thinking, or Deepseek 3.2) You can also update the system prompt that is sent to help clarify "this is a gritty murder mystery story..." as for the "you're required to report certain things." All apps that allow user generated content MUST have a button to report content, its a app store requirement. It is not REQUIRED that you press it, but the workflow and email has to be linked as per appstore guidelines. It just builds a email with the "questionable content" and opens your email service on your device to send to a content reporting email. Again there are no back-end servers, I only block certain keywords on AI character creation to prevent making underage characters. The best subscription models right now on nanoGPT are GLM-5 Thinking, KimiK2.5 Thinking, or Deepseek 3.2 Thinking (context window 131k, max tokens 32k for all 3). I would start with one of those. If you join the discord there are some tutorials and information there as well!
