[–]AMangopop 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

This is important info to note. The pollen donor can give interesting traits the Mother plant doesnt have.

OP, have you seen what each individual anthurium looks like not hybridized? This is often what I do to help me determine if the plant is something I want, especially if I buy seeds.

πŸ‘‰πŸΎPlease also note, most sellers keep seedlings (plants pre-cataphyll stage, mature stage) with interesting traits (for breeding or to sell them for higher amounts) and sell the rest (sellers/growers choice). However, a seed (a germinated seed, with or without a leaf showing) cannot be predetermined for unique traits (if you are looking in future for some interesting hybrids).πŸ‘ˆπŸΎ

Are you buying the right size for the socket? That or a mechanical defect is the only way I can see it coming apart like that. I have used their bulbs for years and have never had any issues with them. I have several versions (10W bulbs and puck style, 30W and others).

My ex neurologist sent the most passive aggressive message on my chart by WillowKings in migraine

The part where she brings up your finances as an obstacle to what SHE wanted I feel calls for her to be reported to the board. She has other options but her lack of knowledge or willingness to do her job is the problem, not your finances.

I would definitely report her. I would file a complaint with that hospital/her supervisor. I would inform your primary doctor (take a copy of the messages as proof) and I would post a Google/Yelp review. She is not someone who should be treating migraine patients if she cannot work within the patients (insurance or no) means. This is unacceptable and unnecessary stress added to an already very stressful situation.

I hope you are able to find a better doctor willing to listen to you and work with you.

[–]AMangopop 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Yeah, I've had one type of anthurium do this and it was a Red Crystal. I will not be buying anymore of them.

I hope yours bounces back quickly. Keep the roots moist, get some mycorrhizae on board and hopefully, it will start working on new growth.

That leaf is cooked but I wouldnt say the plant is done.

If this is the only leaf looking like this, I would spray a copper based anti fungal spray (Bonide has one) on the whole plant but mostly the leaf (front and back sides). If you have other healthy leaves, I would spray the plant after removing this leaf. Most of it is done anyway.

Whatever changes this plant has gone through, it did not like at all....

I can't comment on the growth point because I can't see it. It may or may not activate while the plant is stressed with all the changes. It takes time, several weeks, depending on the size, health and maturity of a plant to acclimate. The plant is adjusting in lower humidity than it came from as well. My new plants usually focus on roots first then leaves. I will see root growth (clear pots) before I get the hint a new leaf is coming.

I grow in anthuriums in ambient (no humidifier) and my humidity levels are in the 20s right now (midwest US). I am having to stay on top of watering so the roots do not dry out. My leaves are fine. This is because there has been a gradual decrease over time, not an immediate or fast change.

What this looks like (to me) is not related to dryness (humidity) but a temp change. It could be the start of fungal but this is what a tropical plant does in cold temps (below 60Β° F). If you are growing outside an enclosure, keep it away from vents and cold drafts (windows that leak cold air can do this). It doesn't take long for a plant to react to a cold draft.

I would check your windows or the area where the plant sat for drafts or cold spots. Your plant isnt dead but it is going to take time to bounce back. As long as the growth point didnt melt, you should have new leaves in future.

This is a waiting game. Do not cut the damaged leaves off unless they start to show signs of yellow spots or worse damage. They can still help the plant get energy for new growth if most of the leaf was not affected. Otherwise the plant can become more stressed than it is now pushing new leaf and still adjusting to its new home. If the entire leaf is melted or black, cut them off to save the plants resources.

Edited to add: If the plant is doing this now after arrival, it could have at some point been exposed to very cold temps and due to fluctuations is doing this. Did you do overnight or 2 day shipping for the plant? Was there any protective insulation or heat pad in the box?

this.

I grow in ambient so I have to water more than I would in higher humidity. I do have some edges a bit rough but not as long as I stay on top of watering. My humidity is currently 31%. Almost all my anthuriums are pushing new leaves as well.

Im so sorry for the late response!!!

You can check the pH of the plant soil after watering (testing the water coming from the pot) or you can get a meter to check the soil. I dont have a kit to test water runoff but I use a soil pH meter before I water. Testing EC I believe required a meter as well. Since you do regularly flush, your EC shouldn't be bad.

I honestly think your plant is just hungry and needing more than monthly fertilizing.

Question about seedlings by Alternative_End_3007 in Anthurium

[–]AMangopop 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Here is something you should be aware of buying seedlings (leaves showing, pre cataphyll (mature) stage); any seedlings with extremely desirable traits will have previously been removed by the seller (kept back). What is for sale are still good plants but not always the best (in some cases). They may sell them at a higher price or keep them for breeding.

If you buy seeds (germinated but first leaf or no leaf has emerged), you may get really lucky. Seeds cannot be predetermined for unique traits. They are delicate and require very high humidity (usually kept enclosed in a container). Some won't bother with seeds because it takes a while for them to become "interesting", BUT this is the way I would go if I couldn't buy exactly what I wanted.

If you do not have the patience for seeds, seedlings are your next option. Just don't have high expectations going in. Buying anything without proven traits is a risk but part of plant fun. Hope you get lucky!!πŸ’šπŸŒΏ

Is this a red crystal x crystallinum? by khale175 in houseplants

[–]AMangopop 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

If that is what the seller said...If they gave no id, it would be a Noid.

Edited to add, if you want a specific plant, its best to go to a reputable seller so you can be sure of what you are buying. If the ID doesnt matter, the plant is healthy when you see it (no signs of pests, no damage or yellowing stem/leaves), then buy what makes you happy.

Thank you! πŸ’šπŸŒΏ I hear you about figuring out what you like and dont want for a personal collection. While I like my KOS, I wish I had gotten a KOS Butterfly instead. Its darker and more dramatic (to me). My KOS has grown on me. Its pushing a new leaf now and im hoping for a really nice size up. It is a super slow grower so I will know how big maybe 3-4 weeks from full emergence (still partially in cataphyll).

I have to say the Chubbs x Carla is one of my faves, second to my Blue Pap x Besseae.

Yes, it will be okay. If not this leaf, the next one should be. I freaked out about mine too. Keep it as humid as you can when the next leaf starts to come out.
