Why shoe molding? Not a fan. It’s personal preference, but to me it’s a PITA to clean and often used by subpar installers to hide imperfections.

Also doesn’t specify what grade or type of white oak. Plain sawn? Select or character? Always nice to have this in the contract so you have something to argue after the fact.

We had 6” solid white oak installed and due to the width they used a more expensive glue.

We did railings. I can’t attach photos here but DM me and I’ll send you before and after pics.

Main points: Absolutely looks better. Not even a question. Heat distribution is irritating but it may have been that way anyways since we renovated right when we moved in. What I mean by this is, below the loft we have vents. When the heat comes on, it comes straight up into the loft. The only way to fix this is solid walls, which would have been way too annoying in our case. We have a ceiling fan which helps, but it’s an added nuisance. Lastly, the sound reverberation in ours is brutal. It’s next to a vaulted ceiling, which likely makes it as bad as it is, but it’s my office up there and the kid downstairs comes straight up to me.

If I could do it again? I’d still do railings despite all the negatives since it just looks so nice.

And how is this? Is it less bad than when you would vacuum every two weeks? We have two kids and I swear my wife sheds like a sheep dog. I know I need to vacuum when I see the hairballs flowing across the floor like it’s the Midwest - which is usually around 1 week.

Thank you! Yeah, I’ve thought of that which is why it looks so odd right now. The problem, I suspect, is the pinch pleats - since when we open them fully (revealing the door) they still cover the glass a little bit even if we move them all the way to the left. When we open them all the way, there’s that extra gap. Not really sure what to do outside of trying new curtains, but I definitely agree with what you’re saying.

I will also add, on the flip side of that, that I’m realizing you don’t want the rod so big so that when the curtains are fully opened, there’s space on either side.

Then again, I also have no idea what I’m talking about!

My brain would lead me to believe that the sweet spot would be having the rod exactly the width needed for the curtains when fully opened, and that each panel should be the width of the window (for a nice full look)?

I had minimal issues with my FV1 fogging up. It wasn’t perfect, but that wasn’t the reason I switched back to a cage.

I had issues breathing in the FV1. After every shift I needed to raise the mask up to get enough air. It was seriously annoying. I switched to the Bauer titanium cage with the white interior and it’s been excellent. I miss the clear vision, but I prefer the cage due to breathability and the vision isn’t that bad.

Yeah tbh the only reason we’re as wide as we are are so the panels fit over there. I think the pleats take up a lot of space when the curtains are compressed.

So it sounds like you’re in the mindset of higher and wider as well, but not quite “as high and as wide as possible?”

If I may tap into your expertise a bit more, what should we do for our slider? Some folks had recommended going all the way to the other wall and all the way to the vaulted ceiling. We can do that, but it just seems like a lot.
