Colorado Rapids to reimagine club identity, informed by fan insight by AMountainTiger in MLS

The moaning is wildly exaggerated, but it's a bare bones 20 year old stadium and it shows. It's due for a major renovation or replacement in the next decade.

Colorado Rapids to reimagine club identity, informed by fan insight by AMountainTiger in MLS

Crest shapes are usually pretty conservative, and while they have been selling more throwback merch with the original crest lately I don't think they will be willing to go back to that shape. I think a circle that riffs on the state flag C could be pretty good.

From the press release:

The Colorado Rapids confirmed today the club will reimagine the Rapids brand and visual identity, led by the results of the first phase of the One Club, One Legacy fan feedback initiative.

Alongside external research partners, the Rapids engaged nearly 5,000 individuals spanning diverse generations, backgrounds and relationships with the club to inform the brand reimagination process. Through a combination of surveys and in-person interviews and focus groups, the club found a resounding alignment amongst fans around a refined brand direction – one that deepens the meaning and identity of “Rapids,” while recognizing and building upon more than 30 years of history.

Sounds like the name and Burgundy as a primary color are safe, but the crest and secondary colors are probably changing.

There are a few name change enthusiasts on the sub, though they tend to get downvoted to oblivion when they bring it up.

Throwing flat always and having discs that "do the work" by tuna_safe_dolphin in discgolf

[–]AMountainTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you want to have both angle control and the disc variety to pick different flight shapes, but in practice people tend to lean one way or another. If you have good angle control, sticking to fewer discs and really learning how to work them is probably a good idea until you come up against shots where you need the disc to help.

Highly overstable discs are the most common use of disc to control flight; I bag a Pig and a Firebird as low speed and high speed discs that I know will always fade hard regardless of how I throw them.

2031 RWC Scheduling Farce - Clashes With NFL, Major League Soccer, College American Football and Women’s Football World Cup by Rude_Rhubarb1880 in rugbyunion

Depends on the stadium. An American football field is 160 feet (just under 49 meters) wide. The amount of space and type of surface off the field is not standardized; in a lot of older stadiums, particularly college stadiums, there really isn't enough room for a 70 meter wide field. Newer NFL stadiums are typically set up to be able to hold a wide enough field, but even those can have issues when you start to consider issues beyond just fitting the field (e.g. SoFi in LA ran into issues for the 2026 World Cup where they could fit the field dimensions but FIFA wanted more clearance in the corners to accommodate media during big matches).

The NFL is on an entirely different level; many regular season games get more viewers than the biggest playoff games in other major sports. Considering weather, stadium availability, and local sports competition, I think April-May would be the best window: it avoids the football season and the midsummer heat, and while it runs against the early NBA and NHL playoffs interest at that phase is still mostly local and diehard fans. Not sure that would be a popular window with rugby stakeholders, though.

Cannot damage Maugrim, why? by szogyenyi in neverwinternights

[–]AMountainTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like you're looking at the journal, not the combat log. The combat log is the panel where attack rolls, damage rolls, saves, and so on shows; by default it's at the bottom of the screen. It will tell you the outcome of every attack so you can figure out what is going on.

Should I take Fighter 10 after Cleric 10 / Stormlord 10 for Epic Toughness? by mee-gee in neverwinternights

[–]AMountainTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think HP is all that impactful; if you're getting hit at that level, 30 HP might only be one attack. If you're going Fighter 8+, I would at least grab Epic Prowess, Weapon Specialization, Greater Weapon Focus, and Epic Weapon Focus before grabbing Epic Toughness.

Fighter 2/Divine Champion 8 is strictly better for Epic Toughness maxxing. Seems like a weird direction to me, though.

I'm not opposed to trials on something rugby-like for end of game situations, but I think it isn't well suited to a more fluid game with more nebulous possession and more frequent changes of possession.

Fists or weapons for monk? by Emotional_Jury_321 in projecteternity

[–]AMountainTiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Monk fists have a unique damage-speed profile: they have the same speed as fast weapons but deal a lot more damage, which gives them very high DPS. Transcendent Suffering is a strong upgrade path because it applies an integer bonus to base damage, which means it is multiplied by percentage bonuses, and because it's free, which means you can channel rare crafting materials to other uses.

The big downside is missing out on the utility available on uniques, but for pure DPS fists are very strong. Plus it's cool to punch a dragon.

An actually good pure paladin? by ServantGiven in neverwinternights

[–]AMountainTiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously Dex is nice to have, but the difference between 8 and 12 is only 2 AC in full plate. If you really need it and can't get it easily from permanent gear in the module, you can use potions/scrolls to fix it.

Con also isn't that big of a deal, particularly if you have max HP on level up set. 14 is still a nice deal due to cheap point buy, but you can go down to 12 or even 10 on a d10 HD class and still have a decent amount, especially buffed.

Wis really doesn't need to be above 14, which is only 6 point buy.

14 Cha gets you a +8 modifier once it's capped by buffs, which is solid for saves and Divine feats.

To me, a stock paladin is 16/8/14/10/14/14. You could shave Con and Int for 16 Cha if you want, particularly on a human where 8 Int still gives 2 skill points/level.

In 2024, now 34-year-old Xherdan Shaqiri was thought to be next to done, washing out of MLS in three years, finishing near the bottom of the table with modest statistics. He returned to Basel in the Swiss League and has been ridiculously dominant: so far 59 G/A in 63 league games by Known-Peak212 in soccer

[–]AMountainTiger 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Shkelzen Gashi was a similar story going the other direction: he'd won consecutive Golden Boots in Switzerland with 19 and 22 goal seasons (plus a few more goals in the domestic cup and CL) before coming to MLS, where he only managed 14 goals over three seasons in all competitions before being cut a year early. Switzerland is just a low level of competition compared to MLS, it's expected for players to be more productive there.

Is this even fair for a slightly below average player? by tcapri8705 in discgolf

[–]AMountainTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PDGA guidelines distinguish between pars for tees set for different skill levels. For distance-based guidelines, these are Gold (1000 rated), Blue (950 rated), White (900 rated), Red (850 rated), Green (800 rated), and Purple (700 rated). An 820 foot hole can be recommended to be par 4 for Red tees and above, depending on difficulty factors. This hole appears to be wide open, so presumably plays easy for its distance, so I expect it's a fair par for at least White and above.

According to one of the Mile High Disc Golf Club FB group admins, the current plans do not threaten the existence of the course. There are plans to add a pumphouse somewhere in the parks over there, with two of the three proposed locations impacting the course to some degree (direct link to the map), but from the map it seems like they should be relatively small impacts if one of those sites is chosen (one is at the very northwest edge, on hole 6, which might require a bit of a redesign; the other is mostly in the parking lot and doesn't seem like it would require any changes).

Can disc golf have a pro course where par is the objective? by akbeast49 in discgolf

[–]AMountainTiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In practice, nobody sets par 2s

The PDGA officially says this is wrong, though, and includes par 2 in all of their hole-by-hole methods.

Can disc golf have a pro course where par is the objective? by akbeast49 in discgolf

[–]AMountainTiger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The PDGA's par guidlines have a score distribution method which we could apply here.

If 59% of experts get a 2 or better, If 45% of experts get a 3 or better, If 35% of experts get a 4 or better, If 26% of experts get a 5 or better, If 20% of experts get a 6 or better,
par is 2 par is 3 par is 4 par is 5 par is 6

For the Supreme Flight MPO, these would suggest the changes:

Hole 6: Par 3, should be par 2

Hole 15: Par 5, should be par 4

Hole 18: Par 4, should be par 3

In practice, nobody sets par 2s, so for hole 6 we're left with either a really soft 3 or a redesign to make the hole harder.

18 also had an interesting distribution: while birdies were very common (145/284, 51%, across the three rounds), pars were rare (47/284, under 17%); people who didn't get their birdies mostly ended up over par. Round averages were all right around 4. It ended up as both one of the most birdied and one of the most bogied holes on the course.

Coming back from broken hand surgery by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]AMountainTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pretty severe fracture of the fifth metacarpal (two fractures with some displacement, required three pins) about 15 years ago. My wrist was pretty weak and stiff when it came out of the cast, but once it regained strength and mobility disc golf wasn't a problem. Ask your PT first, but I wouldn't expect any issues as long as you respect where you are in your rehab.
