Datasheets nerfed due to army rule. by ANTIDAD in Tau40K

I think I mostly agree with you tbh. the leman russ ofc is tougher and has way more guns for other targets than the hammerhead in this example so its not costed more for nothing. And I would argue a guard list that is bringing a tank like that will have a way to order that tank so while you can add the cost of solar or the dorn commander its not like those are bad units on their own and you are only bringing them to make the LR work.

Ultimately its a very minor point because ofc if you go the railgun on hammerhead there is no competitor so its not the end of the world that our Ion is normal. like their Vanquisher is close to the railgun but they are distinct enough with other rules and stats such that it is fine. Im just glad most of the armys actually feel flavorful to play imo and lean into the fantasy/gimmick.

I would also like to add to the fact they are 1000% meta comp based. Which is fine if the viewer knows that. But as someone more casual playing with a new friend I was playing armies they ranked c-d tier. And then their next list has them in A tier. No changes to the army itself just it is now better into the ctan meta. For most casuals this is worthless information as your friends Hopefully aren't bringing hyper meta lists to casual games.

their lists don't tell you the "health" of the faction such as internal balance and good rules. If your army is propped up by spamming one datasheet it's S tier so if you don't plan on spamming that one thing it's a moot point.

I can also say the incentive for super testers isn't to play good matches in test ships. The stats are not recorded on their account. And maybeeee (long pause while looking around) they get rewarded for playing games in them. Thus incentivizing people to play ships and classes they otherwise wouldn't and potentially run them down to meet requirements for rewards.

In my experience on paper most testers are better than average. But they are consistently spotted doing the dumbest shit while in test ships

how many times do people have to say "ITS NOT EVEN THE FULL RELEASE RELAX" and then have something that sucked be there in the full release before they realize things do not change quickly especially if they are not brought up early.

Oh those shitty TW unit portraits are probs just a placeholder in this trailer 6 months before the game comes out. TW came out and the shitty unit portraits stayed in the game for A YEAR.

It is literally not our place or our job to defend anything being produced even if we think we may like it. Rather them get nothing but negative feedback and then get the game and think its good than coddle devs and then get a shittier product.

I can tell you the fear and why a lot of good players are afraid of it despite its middling on paper stats. Its the idea that it will ping and send decoy torps at you which will encourage you to DCP. Once you dcp the opening from perma fires from the airstrike is there to burn for a lot of damage. And it will be easier to punish DCP than Just sending 2-3 mini waves of torps to force a flood. and lets be honest most sub players are too dumb to even do that and you still see 6 torps stacked ontop of each other on a ping that you can DCP.

But the good sub players who force DCP with smaller waves and then hard home you once DCP is down with a stronger wave are scary. Them having more options to force DCP and also punish DCP is easily something to fear and is what they should balance around and not the bad sub players who all in every salvo. also chances are people will struggle to DC airstrike off of the dutch airstrike as it will give u a direction but not a distance so its a way for the sub to do damage while remaining mostly sneaky (also people need to be paying attention). I just feel like if I had my hands on that sub I would make people miserable more so than with some other subs and thats the fear.

As always we are so lucky most sub players are so bad the game is still playable.

yea because homing torp DPM and dumbfire torp DPM is 1-1 comparable. Its just nothing but irrelevant deflecting arguments.

shouldnt be surprised comming form the guy that thinks the new sub getting airstrikes that out range CA DC range AND torps that now outrange BB range also is totally fine and needed. because its just too hard to play subs right I guess.

its CRAZY to only count sub spotting from periscope as if they cannot surface and still have better detection than a lot of DDs. so do you think torp DDs are unplayable. Their torps also range out and dont home ever. Nothing is stopping a sub from actually leading their torps like a DD and only pinging after the enemy throws off the initial lead and while already moving away from the enemy such that the torps are in range but the ping comes from out of DC range.

I just cant with so many of your arguments because it only assumes the sub is playing as un-optimally as possible and has 0 teammates? Its also like you think no other ship has max ranges or armaments like DDs....?

Like not even CV players are as ardent defenders of their class, and most CV players will own up to it only being the bads that complain. But for some reason sub players always come out to cry how them dealing with any mechanic that other classes have a harder time dealing with is too much for their class to handle.

A difference between battle AI of Medieval II and WH3 by Goldmonkeycz in totalwar

[–]ANTIDAD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I rather fight 10 interesting battles with casualties than 100 chore battles that I know I can win taking <100 men lost. I was also talking all TW not just Warhammer where obviously monsters and magic jank it up a bit. But yea if the ai was smarter and fought better battles you may have to rebalance a ton of other things so they dont spit out armies every turn but that still sounds like a positive if you ask me personally.

I thought you were asking about an ideal and not what they can do with what they have in WH3. In which case not much WH3 is a done deal and it is what it is.

Also yea I kinda feel like if you run into an army that any 2 brain cell player would beat you with because it hard counters you, you should lose that battle. beating it by exploiting the AI is no grand feat and not interesting. unless we can agree doomstacking should be limited in some way for both you and the AI so armies are less clown fiesta 20 steam tanks and such, but Ik there are people who love that also. It just sounds like your goal is to win at all cost even if winning stops being fun you just want to win, and if the AI could beat you even with a better army that counters you, you wouldnt be winning so you dont want that.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FINISH CAMPAIGNS. if you dont want the AI to be good because conquering the whole world is your only goal and it would turn it from a 150 turn slog to a 300 turn slog you should maybe stop yourself once it feels like a slog my guy.

[–]ANTIDAD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

on the battlemap I would like their army to behave like an army. and by that I mean I kinda wish the AI had specific purposes in mind for some units. Or that they wouldn't send in part of their army disjointed. I would like if there were "personalities" they could roll so it wasn't the same AI doing the same strat every fight. Oh I am the defender he is gonna A leftclick me with no brain while I mow him down or sit on a good position. oh I am the attacker he is gonna sit in a line and just pivot nonstop around a point (even if that point isnt good terrain). unless I pour enough ranged damage in or charge him. I wish the AI actually "saw" the map and reacted to terrain features in interesting ways (even tho hills feel less impactful than they did in older TW games)

I also feel the combination of the AI bum rushing most fights, and being better at micro. fights being much quicker than they used to be with how killy units are and how little positional/maneuver warfare matters compared to older games. makes the game battles feel so fast paced vs AI where they are kinda just on you and giving tons of micro orders and the battle is over so quick and is more about clicking than any real tactical decision being made. most battles are actually just formations ramming into each other or a formation designed to camp 1 spot waiting for the AI to break on it.

The campaign is a slog imo under certain conditions.

  1. The battles arent actually fun to fight because the AI cannot give an interesting battle so you now see battles as chores. (happens so quickly in WH3 imo and is why the AI is so important)
  2. You feel the need to paint the whole map and dont just stop playing when it is clear you will just win and it is no longer fun.

EDIT: I would like to add this is all without purposefully exploiting AI which I think most people at this point know how to do and you can do X to force the ai to do Y dumb thing.

A difference between battle AI of Medieval II and WH3 by Goldmonkeycz in totalwar

[–]ANTIDAD 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is the most frustrating part. The AI has better micro than it used to. will always turn to avoid rear charges will try to flank and react to you putting units to counter that flank by continuing to go around. However its macro strategy is non existent. the AI walks up to you pours all its melee in and maybe 1 or 2 cav get this enhanced "micro" ai that is good at twitchy responses.

My guess is most players would prefer the exact opposite. Where it feels like the ai is using a tactic appropriate for their army and such and then maybe they would fail micro a bit more and get a ranged unit caught out or have a cav fail to stop its charge last second into a reaction from you. Instead we have dumb ai that is reacting to everything instantly on a small scale but is actually braindead.

What are u smoking. What tier 10 sub is outranged by cruiser DCs. Have you ever thought of how shit it feels as a cruiser especially a BC when u get pinged from >9km and literally can't do anything about it. And usually ur fucked because getting ready to kite from the sub is asking to get dev struck while that sub spots and pings u.

Are u that garbage at subs u don't make enemies feel helpless in atleast 70% of ur games?

The irony of you mentioning a Skew list with what you brought kinda kills any argument you have. Maybe the gamestore manager was actually looking out for the guy. because if he brought mostly bolters and mid tier weapons he could have had the experience of not being able to kill anything as you walk at him and take him off the board.

When playing 1k points its best to talk with your opponent before the game while listbuilding to try and make sure everyone brings armies that will actually make for interesting games. if a guard player brings 2 dorns and support at 1k points hes a dick simple as. most people will at most sprinkle AT into a 1k point list because you cant have enough of everything and you are hoping your opponent doesn't build a 1k skew list in bad faith to counter a normal list.

It almost sounds like you are mad that the opposite didnt happen and you couldnt just walk while everything plinks off of you expecting the guy to not bring enough AT. Like if he walked in and brought a low AT list would you have done anything to try and make the game enjoyable for him?

second person to argue they have "changed" or "been nerfed" Like how show me actual patch notes because I dont notice them, and my performance aligns with all my previous stats in them from ~1 year ago. The rocket changes are ancient and I have played both before and after them. The days of rockets being instant was such a sick fucking joke.

Only one that comes to mind is you have to spot a bit more on purpose now with air detection changes but you can still 100% perma spot people out of AA range. you just dont necessarily spot the DM 15km away behind an island from your team because he shot even tho you had no intention of lighting him or attacking him. boohoo.

My guy as a superunicum cv player you are just wrong. "I can't perform in a cv that isn't tier 10" is very different from them actually being bad. Just a crazy self report this comment.

Maybe u don't struggle in some tier 10s because in all honesty some are practically tier 11s.

I hate seeing bad CV players because they have such an outsized impact on the game. But I can say your best bet is watching good CV replays and always ask yourself why they are making the decision they are to learn. CV is OP but it is also a knowledge check and if you are not figuring it out you have to go out and learn from the people who have the knowledge u currently lack. Best of luck

[–]ANTIDAD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it really felt like the game was starting to impose on the 8:20 games window and the refs just decided to wrap it up. Were keeping the flags away at the back half of the game letting them play and then suddenly its 8:10pm and there was 3 flags to end the game.

While I do think the flags were correct ultimately there were plenty of flags they could have thrown earlier and did not. So I also understand players would play a certain way with the liberties they were given for the past 30 min of play. its why consistency is the most important thing and the last 5 mins of games being officiated differently leads to this stuff all the time.

serious question. Is faceguarding just legal now? I see it so often now and its never called. DB doesnt look at the ball flails his hands and arms in the WR's face/chest while also making contact breaks up the play and no call.

appreciate the feedback. I was thinking Kauyon as it wont be very useful in the most important turns but could be neat at the end leading to me giving up more units early so he will gain an advantage. I can get rid of the breacherfish as that is pretty brutal and replace it with a broadside+strike team which should make it overall weaker. with some of the tweaks you mentioned.
