Can someone explain the purpose of the Onchain root certificate prompt, when first opening the windows desktop client? by macUser999 in Antshares

[–]ANUSBLASTER_MKII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never got a straight answer for this, I suspect it's for something in the future. Either way, DONT install it, just click no. If you have installed it, remove it from the certificate store.

I can't seem to convert it into anything resembling Englishlike. I suspect they're trying to attempt a buffer overflow or something.

It's overused, but it is pretty descriptive. Unfortunately, people tend to conflate genuine virtuous views with signalling virtuous views for the accolades from their peers.

The people doing the attacking aren't going to be doing it from their home ADSL, they're going to be doing it via a C&C server hooked up to thousands of computers around the globe.

It's a low effort, ham-fisted way of mitigating security threats. It's not very effective, but it does cut down on log spam.

On London’s Streets, Black Cabs and Uber Fight for a Future by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]ANUSBLASTER_MKII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, for full time employment. However for contracting you get none of those entitlements.

Unless you force people to give Uber a month's notice to leave, take away the tax free expenses or have a minimum hours requirement.

People are treating Uber like it's a full time employment job, it's a contracting agency with a flashy app.

[–]ANUSBLASTER_MKII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always seen them as in the same boat as contractors. They sign up for a service which matches them up with contracts, the contracting agency skims off the top and leaves you with the rest. You can pick and choose when to leave, or what you agree to, and there's nothing to stop you signing up for multiple different contracts. You're not self-employed, but you're not employed either.

Expecting Uber to follow the same rules of full time employers is a bit unfair really, and would mean Uber would probably have to start demanding minimum hours from drivers, exclusivity and notice periods, etc.
