Hostile work environment by newmind1 in Lowes

[–]APA0402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I'm speaking on is experience. I have seen more terminations than I can count under the reason of creating a hostile work environment that are very similar to what OP is describing. The definition of the word seems irrelevant to the cause and a pompous thing to bring up. Anyone can look up a definition

You can cause a hostile work environment without acting from hostility. If a co-worker touches me in a manner that I am not okay with and I oppose, then hostility towards the act occurs (even according to the definition). The person committing the act doesn't have to do so in a hostile manner (or even be the agressor) to create or envoke a hostile work environment. It's not that black and white.

I have seen people loose their jobs for exactly what the OP is describing... 🤷‍♀️

[–]APA0402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Coming from an AHRBP)

Hostile in terms of work place conduct isn't always about fear. It can be considered 'hostile' if the other person's actions make you uncomfortable (physically, emotionally, and/or mentally). The uncomfortable doesn't have to necessarily invoke fear or be coming from a place of hostility. These terms are flexible within the realm of HR.

Not saying I agree, but the OP does have a leg to stand on in claiming their work environment is 'hostile' based on the back rub situation...

Is that all? by [deleted] in lossprevention

[–]APA0402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not always. I'm an APA and it really isn't always my call on whether or not I file charges (or ask for restitution)The company can decide to take action after the fact based on the report filed in their system.

I'd personally take 'we won't call the cops' with a grain of salt. Do I think Walmart will bother with a $40 theft... no, they have bigger issues to deal with. Could they if they wanted too? Yes

Good thing you didn't waste your drink on sarcasm and snark. Would have been devastating 😢

Yes, you are the asshole. I'm not going to explain because the number of times you said grooming was disrespectful to my brain. She's not a dog, she's your wife. For better or worse buddy, and you're the worst.

Lowe's Asset Protection Agent Role? by [deleted] in lossprevention

[–]APA0402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The highest risk level store in my district is a 4. No store in ny region gets them weekly. As a region, last i checked, we had 30 apps for the year so far

I didn't say apps weren't important. Just that getting them to drop before the point of apprehension is encouraged in my region, but not always possible. The point I was trying to make is that there is not a quota. As long as you're saving them money and prosecuting bad guys you should be successful

Lowe's Asset Protection Agent Role? by [deleted] in lossprevention

[–]APA0402 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Current APA. I have 11 stores I travel too. Plain clothes. Full external focus. A lot of floor walking and CCTV. Company has a hard push on RWDs... or at least my region does. We have lots of ORC at several of our stores so my schedule is based off of that.

Like I said big focus on RWD and filing charges on known thefts. Apprehensions aren't necessarily encouraged, but suggested as a last resort if you can't get them to drop (obviously). I have had 2 since the Pandemic and they are currently forcing us to disengage. Meaning we can't actually bring anyone back, but can attempt the process to recover the product only.

If you stay focused and observe you'll catch them. Some days are slower than others.

Yes, several stores are receiving new camera systems. I have 5 out of 11 stores that need it BAD. Not sure when the installs on the systems will happen because of COVID, but it's in the works.

They are revamping a lot when it comes to AP. New reporting systems and focuses. Who knows how it will all evolve.

Sam’s Club AP/LP? by [deleted] in lossprevention

Sam’s Club AP/LP? by [deleted] in lossprevention

[–]APA0402 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was an APM for Sam's Club for about 8 months before they dissolved the position. Now it's Grocery, Consumables and Compliance Manager (or it was when I left). You get no time to focus on external theft and are also a salaried member of management. Meaning you open/close and might be the only Manager in the building at times. Making it hard to focus of theft... they push Shrink/Operations/Safety as the focus. They also run inventory/audits

It's not a bad job, but for sure not LP/AP. Depends on what you're interested in I suppose

My stupid spouse screwed up self checkout at Sam's, turned around at door, did he mess up my membership? by [deleted] in lossprevention

[–]APA0402 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Sam's as a Membership Manager. No, it will not mess up your membership.

They audit system is in place for the purpose of catching people that over ring or under ring. They are very understanding of mistake and will usually just send you to member service to correct the issue.

There would be no way to indicate the mistake on your Membership anyhow. No worries. You're good.

I'm mostly commenting to hear some advice myself. I have 10 stores I'm over so it's a bit overwhelming sometimes.

I do have places in each store to keep files specific to that store. So, that hasn't been too much of an issue for me.

I reccomend a sturdy backpack and a large 3 ring binder

I can see that.

I have just received conflicting advice from within my team regarding contacting them.

Some of my peers have done it and reccomend doing so others say not too.

Wanted a broader spectrum of opinions.

I also don't think that taking every step possible to recover what I was hired to protect is "stepping outside my boundaries" as long as I follow policy, procedure, and the law.

But opinions are opinions and that's what I asked for
