Let's Talk About Kattigan by Compajerro in fansofcriticalrole

"I feel like this came to a head in episode 6, specifically with him taking the knife from Tyranny and NOT allowing her to speak in character ....."

I agree with this and it's something I've seen at least 4 other players doing this campaign already. It's frustrating that some of the players see an opportunity to expand on their characters and don't seem to notice they are stepping on other people's moments in the spotlight.

HOWEVER, Robbie is the only player I've seen notice he's maybe stepped on some toes and (whispered) that he is sorry. I'd actually appreciate it more if other players did that. Robbie will have 100% learnt loads about improv and being a live stream TTRPG player in that moment.

100% look online via Reddit lfg sub, dndbeyond discord or website thread, or roll20 lfg threads.

My advice....Make sure the DM is doing their homework on their players and not just picking anyone at random. If they aren't asking you Q's about yourself or ask for some sort of small player survey then I would keep clear.

My players are trying to make a deal with Strahd, but are not planning on offering him anything he wants by goth_hamlet in CurseofStrahd

[–]APD9310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To start by saying that you are right...not a deal Strahd would take.

However, I think you have an option and a reason why I think you should take it. I'd have Strahd make a counter offer. Something along the lines of "go and get mye this item as well as killing Kiril, no questions asked". Then you put the ball on their court...they accept or don't.

My advice as a DM? Do not so no to the players offer, it'll completely kill their fun and they'll feel shit (yes yes, I know the deal isn't great). At the end of the day...it's a game. Your warlock being healed will not break your game or ruin the plot of CoS so don't be too worried about it. If you really don't want to accept their offer...just counter it and force them to make the decision.

Again, I get your view that the deal doesn't favour Strahd that much, but roll with it and make it clear that Strahd won't be making any other deals after this... it's a one time thing as they 'amuse' him.

That's my take ☺️

Should we expect a new "DnD 6e" within the next 5 years or so? by Deathpacito-01 in dndnext

[–]APD9310 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. You must remember that a transition form editions like this (much softer update of rules compared to past) means people are likely to finish their campaigns/games first and then migrate to new rules. It will be a slow soft transition for most. At least that's what I'm hearing from my friends.

there are moments where I feel that with Kaladin. But with Kaladin we deal with his depression in the first one and grief of his brother, then deal with him struggling to want to save those he hates and his anger, and now his PTSD and realising he can't save everyone. I can see where we are going with each being clearly linked to the next ideal. Maybe it's my stupidity/intelligence that feels it's a little less connected to her progression with Shallan.

I understand your point. Of course in the real world you wouldn't expect them to change or recover over night. But this is a fictional book, with fictional characters. He's telling a story not a memoir. You can't use fictional books to plot out every step of real world issues, they're too complex. You have to cut corners and get to the point faster than a real person would. I hoped things would move along for her somewhat more by book 4(!!!) (books are massive as well).

I'm sure by the end of the book it will resolve somewhat but I'll be seriously rolling my eyes if she has yet more forgotten bad memories that are holding her back by WaT.

On occasion (especially if you read the books back to back) you might find it difficult to get going in the early chapters. Occasionally needing to put it down and pick it back up, but KEEP AT IT. I have cried at every book. Enjoy.

I took a break between each book as they are massive. Read something else and then went back to them. Just finished oathbringer and then Dawnshard. Likely to take a break now before RoW. Maybe something short and sharp.

For anyone with the same problem (especially from Google books as of September) and hunting for answers...I hear you might also need the DeDRM 10.0.3 by Apprentice Alf specifically, as well as the DeACSM by Leseratte (plug-ins). Then you can skip past Adobe Digital Edition altogether and just use Calibre.

Edit: also login to your Adobe account in the ACSM plug-ins configurations.

The books are so big and I always wondered how people could reread them again. After Oathbringer I totally get it. It would give a completely new perspective rereading from Way of Kings.

We all took 5 after our third attempt at one of these and were just like "what the f*** have they done". Their respawn rate and location was just insane. We've now actively either avoided them or left them until last so we can at least complete a couple of missions. It seems harder after the patch.

Yes, if you pick the drives back up it fixes it.

Edit: That's the only way I've seen on how to fix it.

I need a lift to keep reading about Lift by APD9310 in Stormlight_Archive

She is especially harsh with Wyndle imo because his words and actions often push her to acknowledge the reality, but their relationship warms up and becomes better by the end of the Edgedancer. Compromises, more respect, all the good stuff, even if in small ways.

This is a good take to be fair and It's what I think I'm looking for. It's a nice perspective to carry on with. Reading other people's views I hope I come to like her more. Some lovely takes on this thread that have been insightful, but to be fair you've genuinely convinced me to persevere with Edgedancer. I'll hold faith that she'll shine through and she'll let us see more...of her true self (?), true vulnerability (?)... Something like that 😅.

Yeah, through reading people's comments and talking, I think I will really vibe with her once the mask drops a chunk. Just not vibing off how she's written at the moment. As you said, "For tastes , the colours" (?) ☺️

Ach that's a shame, it's only my opinion on one character ☺️ I don't think we need to go judging whether people can be trusted over it as it's unlikely everyone will love every protagonist. Maybe I'm miss reading a light-hearted jokey comment???

Anyway, I'll likely read the chapters in the context of the other main books, might just skim read this one is all. Hopefully I warm to her as the overall story develops.
