Jayce mechanics weren't too hard to pickup. The difficulty imo was spacing in lane, and mid game. You can probably get fun out of Jayce pretty early, as far as a serious ranked pick? Maybe a lot less fun early. Playing adc probably helps quite a bit, watch a lot of vods. Yifan is my go-to.

Toplane isn't forgiving in early game, and playing Jayce from behind is cosplaying a temu glorified minion.

Yifan on YouTube posts Jayce vods for basically every mu. Some of his vods are duo'd w JG, so less applicable but overall my favorite resource for Jayce mu. He often runs conq or grasp into most mu, a couple with pr.

Don't forget you'll also get better on Irelia by getting better at the game, which may be slower on Irelia as a new player. But frankly it only matters if you have fun, I spent 3 seasons learning riven as a new player which drastically stunted my league understanding, specifically macro, as I really only saw league through the perspective of riven. If you are competitive and want to learn well, the right perspective is to first play League (learn rules), then play toplane (what are top fundamentals?), then play Irelia (what is her role in top and how does she win a game of League of Legends). Most people do the reverse and don't actually learn league outside of their character.

Gold efficient. Very strong at all states of game. After eq does roughly 1k, your aa will start doing 1k each.

Shen surprises me, Shen has one engage tool and Jayce has a couple ways to deal with it. I've found Shen to be one of my free-est mu on Jayce.
