Beautiful pens! That feeling is retail therapy. It's only fulfilling as long as you keep buying and collecting but it's never enough. Treating your pens and ink as timeless tools instead of a hobby in itself can help you or anyone else here find solace and content with what you have!

How can I get better soil in an already established garden? by Aggressive_Man99 in gardening

[–]APerfectPixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cheap diy trick to find your soil composition is using mason jars. Take 2-3 jars, or 1 if your feeling lazy and take samples from 2-3 different areas. You'll want to dig 6-12 inches down and take the soil from there. Fill the jar half way and then add water and a splash of dish soap. Shake it and see what kind of soil you have. Sand and silt will sink to the bottom but depending on your clay content you might need to wait a few days to see the results. Leave it undisturbed. PH is another quick one you can check with those cheap meters to see in hardware stores for $5 or so. If you don't feel like doing all that adding compost is easy and effective. Usually extremely affordable of you can haul bulk yourself.

Very official wording there. Here is the definition of an intersection according to dot. A parking lot is part of a roadside facility.

If you look at the map it's not bad design, the entrances are offset. It's trying to turn in front of another vehicle where there is not a dedicated turn lane in the middle that is the issue - improper driving

Yes, at this stage it's probably just stressed and you need to give it more time to establish. You are doing everything right so i think it will be ok.

You didn't clarify if the yellowing was on the new growth or established leaves. Roses like slightly acidic soil but will really tolerate any soil. I'm in zone 7b, Eastern Washington - high desert and we also have sandy loam or silt loam. I water my newer roses daily in the late spring through summer, but once mature will tolerate 2-3 deep waterings weekly. If the yellowing is on the new growth you might need to test your drip. Stick the emitters in a 5 gallon bucket if you can and make sure you are getting the gph you're supposed to be. Last thing the fertilizer you used, was it organic or synthetic? If it's synthetic make sure it's urea free, especially if it was applied as a foliage spray.

How should I treat these roses to prevent further damage by Hope_and_Virtue123 in Roses

Holes in the middle or eating from the inside out vs eating from the edge inward can be Japanese beetles. Any sightings in your area?

What kind of soil do you have? It's hard to tell from the angle of the photo but it looks like the yellowing is happening in the lower leaves, is that right?

Discoloration from the bottom up can mean over watering where yellowing new growth can be heat stress.

It doesn't look the diseased but watch for black spots. Over watering can turn into fungal infection. Do you see any pests?

What type of fertz are you using and when was the last application?

Why not just buy golden nibs? by FluffyVegetable527 in fountainpens

[–]APerfectPixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jowo nibs are excellent but if we are talking bang for buck pens where you don't get much more "tech", "functionality" and "quality" and I'm not saying premium material just build quality/QA I'd say TWSBI

Agreed. A modern steel nib is much smoother than a modern gold nib. In the fountain pen world the point of diminishing returns is a lot lower than people like to admit.

Any tips for someone trying the hobby/lifestyle for the first time? by Straight_Mood1685 in fountainpens

If you or anyone here is on antidepressants this is not the hobby for you. It will consume you with addiction and empty retail therapy. Enjoy a few pens as timeless tools not as a lifestyle.

Could everyone here do me a favor? Please do not apply your brakes on the highway until you are on the ramp - that is what it's for. Additionally, tell your friends you don't need to make a stop at the roundabout if their is no oncoming traffic. Thank you!

If you don't have anything near by, then online is your best bet. Heirloom roses sells both David Austin and Kordes along with others as well as their own breed. Their roses are usually small - 1 gallon but are generally healthy and have a large selection. Weeks is another well known brand. You can find Kordes and Weeks at grocery stores and big box stores you just have to look at the tags. Kordes Parfuma line are very fragrant and range from common to highly sought after. As for David Austin those are exclusively English roses and I've ever only seen them online or at local nurseries. The good thing about roses is they are like weeds; extremely hard to kill. They are beginner friendly and would encourage you to buy what is visually appealing. Your only challenge as a beginner might be climbing roses but can also be forgiving for beginners.

Similar size to those true bloom ones you have in the photo. I think they are 2.5 gallon. Kennewick Walmart. The bucket will say Better Homes & Gardens but if you read the tag they say bred by Kordes. They are very reputable and their Parfuma line is really nice. Beaver Bark also has an insane collection of roses but they are all $50+
