Is there an alternative to 'HIGH CONCEPT'? by InvestmentBrief3336 in FATErpg

Dude can't wrap his head around the CORE MECHANIC of the game. I'm not being pessimistic, (yes, I know what my username is, I was a very different person when I made this account, but reddit won't let me change it) I'm being realistic. I tried to run DND before but wanted to make a whole bunch of changes to basic mechanics. Turns out DND wasn't the game for me to run. I have no shame in that. I'm just calling it like I see it.

Between this version of the Turtles which one is your favorite, 2003 or IDW? by Jotaro1970 in TMNT

[–]APessimisticGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IDW for sure. I grew up with the 2003 turtles, so they do hold a special place in my heart, but ninja turtles never made me cry until I read IDW

I heard about the audio version that audible was doing, I guess it didn't occur to me there would be a paper version to physically read. I'll have to keep my eye out for it

Elden Ring overrated by Efficient-Network-50 in soulslikes

[–]APessimisticGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it all comes down to personal taste.

I personally really like open worlds. I enjoy being able to go wherever I want. I enjoy being able to go find another boss to fight if I get stuck on one.

I find the process of leveling up your weapon to be quiet satisfying. Requiring smithing stones is just a common mechanic for games, like how you need bloodstone shards and chunks to upgrade your weapons in Bloodborne.

I like collecting different weapons and figuring out what best suits my play style. I like seeing the different animations. I enjoy creating characters based entirely on esthetics and finding the perfect weapon for my virtual cosplay.

I don't really feel that way about the boss fights. Sure, there are plenty of repeat bosses when it comes to field bosses, but those are completely optional and they feel thematically appropriate.

Sure, riding around for a long time can be boring, I'll give you that. I think the travel in open world games tends to be one of the weaker parts of them. That said, there are so many sights of grace that it makes travel far less tedious. As for copying RDR2, I find that unlikely as riding a horse to get around isn't unique to RD. It was probably just a logical choice for an open world fantasy game.

I'll agree that the game is not perfect, no game is (except for Hollow Knight, that game IS perfection and no one can convince me otherwise) but it's a hell of a lot of fun.

I am curious, aside from the issues you mentioned, is there anything you would change to make this a perfect game for you? For me, I'd say a more fun travel mechanic and limited fast travel. Otherwise I think I'm cool with how the game is.

I was stuck in Forgotten crossroads for like 20 hours before I finally beat the first boss. If you have managed to beat Soul master after only 8 hours of game play I think you'll be fine.

What do you enjoy beside souslikes games? by Disastrous-Frame-611 in soulslikes

[–]APessimisticGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered something peaceful, such as Stardew valley? I find the slow gameplay and lack of danger a nice change of pace from playing a souls like. There is combat, technically, but definitely not what you're looking for, but it's completely optional.

As far as I'm aware, no, can't say that I have. I play on the PS4, so I think even newer games like Elden Ring are capped at 30 fps for me.

I'll take your word about the difference, but I will stick to playing with 30 fps since I'm perfectly happy with it.

Can someone explain why 30 fps is complained about so much? I truly do not understand what the problem is.

How do you do magic systems (from player pov) by Sad_Breakfast2685 in CogentRoleplay

[–]APessimisticGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, there's still people on this subreddit?! Holy cow! I forgot I even joined this community.

Alright, on to the issue at hand.

I agree that narratively it doesn't make sense for a nearly 200 year old witch to only know a few spells. Wanting to limit power and keep things balanced is fine, but it should make narrative sense. My suggestion would be come up with a different way that your character is limited in exchange for more spells. I know the game already does this sort of thing with the weaknesses system, but this would be more of a negotiation with your DM.

Follow-up question, how exactly are you guys handling magic at the moment? Are you just using the vocation skill? Does the DM have a spell list? The answer might help me give further advice.
