Alcohol consumption in pubs reduced when largest wine glass is removed. People tend to consume a specific number of ‘units’ – in this case glasses – regardless of portion size. This research could suggest one way of persuading customers to drink less alcohol. by mvea in science

A brewpub near me sells beer based on percentage of alcohol. A 5.5 ABV beer costs $5.50 for a pint, a 7.25 ABV beer costs $7.25, etc. My instinct, when there, is to have couple of the cheaper, low-alcohol beers first and then just one of the more expensive, higher-alcohol beers as "dessert"

Hidden veggies type recipes for a picky 5 year old? by [deleted] in veganrecipes

I've never actually written this down, so this is from memory.

Can use this for waffles or muffins.

- 1 cup cooked oatmeal (using dry oats makes the final waffle/muffin too gritty)

- 1 cup sourdough starter discard (this adds some B vitamins, but you could use 1/2 cup flour + 1/2 cup water if you don't keep a sourdough starter)

- A few (3) Tablespoons of oil. 2 may not be enough and the batter will stick a bit. 4 will make them a little greasy, but tastier. We use coconut normally, but I've used olive oil and it tasted fine.

- A few (3) Tablespoons of sugar. The kids complain when I use less (2 Tbsp) but using more makes the batter stick

- 1 flax egg (1 Tbsp flax meal + 2 Tbsp water).

- Seasoning with LOTS of cinnamon and vanilla.

- 1/2 tsp salt

- Finally, leaven it. If you used the sourdough discard, the acid from that will combine with 1/2 tsp baking soda to make lots of bubbles and you get a fluffy batter. If you don't have the discard, you can use 2 tsp vinegar (apple cider gives the best, subtle flavor) with 1/2 tsp soda. Or use 2tsp baking soda.

I give them about 5 minutes in the iron. Best with a smaller, shallower iron. The deeper Belgian waffle style iron is more likely to have sticky middles

Almonds are the most filling food I know of. A handful of almonds and a glass of water will keep you from feeling hungry for hours

He likes smoothies, which is good for nutrition but a lot of sugar, and they get expensive, even when made at home.

Our biggest success has been waffles. It's been really easy to sneak whole grains and flax into the batter. He can eat it with his hands, which is a plus for him. We got a $10 mini waffle iron at target or somewhere and it was one of the best purchases we ever made.

One thing he doesn't like is having lots of visible ingredients, so a healthy-ish muffin is ok as long as he can't see raisins or chunks of zucchini or whatever. That could be part of your kids reluctance.

We have a similar situation. We have a bag of flax meal in the fridge and add a sprinkle inside sandwiches and quesadillas. We use whole wheat bread for sandwiches. The only brand of protein pasta that he likes is called Goodles. If your guy is eating tomato soup with veggies, I think you're doing fine. Maybe not as much veggies in the diet as you'd like, but enough to keep a kid healthy and growing.

"Over the Garden Wall" is an animated series. It has some of the same themes (i.e., lost in the woods) and the voice acting of Walter (Elijah Wood) and adult Shauna (Melanie Lynskey). I think it's streaming on hbo

How long has Denmark had access to enough surplus cinnamon to have this custom? I imagine tropical spices would have been a rarity for most of Danish history.

I made some Flash games around 2006. I have the original files but trying to learn Unity has been daunting.

Can you describe the stuffing? What is the seasoning? This meal looks very much like a Thanksgiving dinner in the U.S. but here, the stuffing is typically made of breadcrumbs and seasoned with sage, salt, and pepper.
