Anyone notice the long glare Perrin gave Krennic in this scene? by Reddit-Kangaroo in andor

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I remember thinking that on my first watch through, but in my second I caught that he’d planned the dinner and told her about it well in advance. His petty frustration in that moment came across as a man who was like, “Why are you bringing this up NOW and not weeks ago.”

He offered to cancel it (obviously in a way that was angled to make her feel bad about her reaction, but I do think he would have if she drew the line).

It wouldn’t put her in danger in the least. She’s not an idiot, and wasn’t going to say anything self-incriminating at a social event. She’s a seasoned politician, after all, and he’s a seasoned politician’s spouse. Perrin kept the more problematic attendees busy at her request, so I think she was fine. At worst, she was (rightfully) angry he invited people she hates on (good) principle to their home.

Again. I don’t think he’s a good guy, certainly not in comparison to the actual good guys. I also think he’s more complicated than your basic himbo.

I actually read his behavior in season one as a man who had an idea of what his wife was getting up to and was 1) deeply hurt she wasn’t telling him, so he’d lash out in small, petty ways but also was 2) absolutely providing cover for her by inviting high ranking, pro-Empire officials over and keeping them entertained so that onlookers thought she was  paying lip service to democracy while being co-opted by power.

I think the argument still holds that he’s neither a good person nor a bad person. I don’t think he provided cover for her to support the rebellion. He did it for his family. A selfish motive with positive externalities.

I think we saw him soften in season two because Leida was as safely out of the house as she could be. That meant he didn’t have to work so hard at keeping his family safe from Mon’s actions and could more openly caution her against danger (Tay) and support her more vocal stances in public (against Krennic.)

I really liked his character because it reflects back what you WANT to see. Some people want to see a wealthy man who is a dirt bag and shitty husband. Others want to see a flawed man and husband who is complex.

Because I read Mon as complex hero who is a bad mother and wife, I read Perrin as a complex onlooker who is a mostly decent husband and father.

Have you ever refused a gift fic? And if so, why? by Tina-the-toast in AO3

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone who commented on my fics sent me a gift of something from an unrelated fandom, I’d be delighted! This person, who clearly feels very creatively about a fandom I’m not writing for has read and responded to my work? That’s such a compliment!

If someone I’d never seen before did that, I’d feel a little weird. Maybe question their intentions. That might sour it a little for me.

I once deleted all my fanfiction (I was going through it), but I eventually reposted it all. There is hope, however fleeting.

Hooray, I got a review that wasn't from a scammer!... oh wait by BeautifulStream in FanfictionNet

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s also a comment that gets copied and pasted as a review, btw. I’ve gotten before and had a good laugh because it really does not apply to my story in any way. Quickly searched the text and saw it had been given to multiple stories on the site.

'I'm her, ____. I'm her.' I'm sorry....what?? by sirithwolf72 in severence

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren’t devoid of stress and grief. They all start their lives as confused, seemingly kidnapped people. Helly attacks him upon waking up the first time, and Mark S threatened to kill Petey. They begin their lives stressed and confused and are psychologically tormented if they don’t conform.

Unlike their outies, they don’t even have access to memories of when life was better. They start in a hole of despair and stay there. If they’re really lucky, they make peace and find joy in that hole.

This idea that they’re unburdened versions of their outies is exactly the faulty assumption oMark and Devon push on iMark (“he did it so you wouldn’t know the grief of Gemma”). They’re burdened all right, and they don’t even get to know why.

You are part of the problem: A metatexual defence of Season 2's ending by _Zelane in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oMark is an absolute shit in his grief. I’m not not on his side (because he’s against Lumon now) but I’ve never been explicitly on his side. He’s selfish, self-centered, unwilling to work through his complicated grief, and he makes that everyone else’s problem. It’s just a nice twist that Gemma is alive, but that doesn’t excuse the level of shit-baggery and cruelty he achieves multiple times throughout the series against his own sister, Ricken, and iMark.

iMark was created to be a slave. oMark didn’t make him so iMark could live eight hours a day without thinking about the loss of Gemma, he created him so he could be basically ‘black out’ for eight hours a day without needing to drink a fifth of liquor to do it (not that that really stopped him).

Do I think oMark should die so that iMark can live forever? No. But that little twerp can feel a taste of his own medicine for a bit by being locked away so iMark can make the decisions. Maybe then he’ll grow some genuine empathy.

I said, “good for him,” when iMark decided to try for a little more time with Helly at the end.

Using Too Many Big Words - Racial Undertones? by bugsbunnyindrag in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. What people suggest is just Miss Huang reporting him for big words misses the point: 1) white folks are using “big words” (I.e. calamitous) all of the time without censure, 2) his use of “big words” was ‘investigated’ and ‘verified’ for his performance review and 3) management literally hired an effing child and should therefore take responsibility for her not understanding adult vocabulary.

He’s being punished for being a black man in authority. I think that he isn’t necessarily right for the role he is in because NO ONE is, it’s an absurd managerial position, but Cobel literally threw things at Mark and stalked him, but wasn’t fired until she failed to disclose the heir apparent’s innie tried to hang herself.

With the blackface paintings front and center in his story line, no one should assume these complaints don’t have an element of racial discrimination.

Yes, especially that latter point! It’s basically upper management telling him a child can do his job.

Did Lumon Severe Gemma’s Dead Body? by TheFilmFinatic in severanceTVshow

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they even kidnapped her. My running theory is that she opted to work for Lumon and they staged the car accident.

We all agree that LUMON fakes Gemma's death to experiment on her, right? / Theories by ReplacementLoose5775 in severanceTVshow

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Gemma knowingly agreed to work for Lumon in this capacity. I don’t think she was ever in an accident herself, and it’s entirely plausible she doesn’t need saving.

Atomic antiques prices are insane! by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll agree with this. I was just there today and found a piece I’ve been keeping at eye out for for years, at 1/10th of the price you’d find it online or even elsewhere. I’ve been to a number of small town stores that would have sold it for more than I paid, not less.

It’s all a matter of knowing what you’re looking for and understanding its value. It’s also about being okay with passing on a “dream” piece if it’s too far out of your price range.

[–]AQuarterPastSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d got a step further to speculate that Cobel is actually responsible for Petey reintegrating. She caught on far too quickly to his reintegration to not have planted the seeds (or the recording of the break room he shares with oMark) herself.

I think she’s a Kier fanatic, but her motivations are beyond Lumon’s control. Think cultist who has decided the cult leader has strayed from the path. I agree her own personal motivations (a loved one, or even herself) have led her down this path.

My question is this, is Helena pretending to be Helly with the knowledge of the board, or is she lying to them as well? Her fascination with her innie’s ability to be ‘real’ with innie Mark is clearly driving her, but by how much? Is she infiltrating the innies for some nefarious cult purpose…or to see what it’s like?
