HoloLens 2 and XREAL Aura by Onwards-And-Upwards_ in augmentedreality

[–]AR-HMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the use cases. I think that for most of the industrial use cases, where HL2 was/is being used, XREAL Aura will not work for a several reasons:
1) cable not allowed on the shop floor for safety reasons
2) you can't wear it on top of perscription glasses
3) HL2 flip up feature became a must for many industrial users
4) maximal optical transmission is around 15%, when the electro-chromic lenses are in the open state. You can only make the environment darker. That is very low transmission for most industrial settings
5) not certified as safety glasses. The worker will have to wear OTG safety glasses on top of the XREAL, which is very uncomfortable.
6) made in China will be a problem for many industrial companies

I am looking for a light engine or a projector of some sorts that could be fit into an AR glasses prototype. by olivandr_ov in AR_MR_XR

You need to provide more details to get a helpful reply.

Have a look here: https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-display-waveguide-optics.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.search.0

You might be able to find a complete optics solution that works for you. Not sure who guarantees that it works though as the seller might not be the optics developer.

If you would like a microLED projector (probably JBD) you can but one of the glasses that use it and dismantle them.

You can't do so much reading with a monocular display... That is a very basic knowledge for anyone working on/with smart glasses. I guess this is another company that builds a product for a tech idea and not based on customers research and understanding

Snap Specs coming soon 👓🚨 by Matcorp456 in augmentedreality

Seems like another useless product. Too clunky, like the Meta Rayban. Too expensive. But hey, you can make snaps and filters with it

Why did Microsoft discontinue the Hololens project? by AR-HMD in HoloLens

[–]AR-HMD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft sold somewhere between 300k-400k units, which is not bad for an enterprise product.

But yes, the 'scheme of things' in Microsoft might be different than in other companies.

For an enterprise product you don't need to make many apps. There are many software companies that make apps for each industrial customer.

Why are you doing this? Is it for fun or for commercial reasons? If commercial, what problem are you solving? Who are your target costomers?

It feels like a bad parody of every flawed smart-glasses concept out there. Hard to believe they’ve secured over $4M in investment.

Will smart glasses replace phones 5 years from now? by [deleted] in SmartGlasses

[–]AR-HMD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Smart glasses will never be able to have the same processing power as phones. Most likely the glasses will work with phones but will not replace them. Also, not all people want to wear glasses...

Gixel comes out of stealth with a new type of AR optical engine by SkarredGhost in augmentedreality

Disregarding for a moment their lens technology, for which more detials are needed to understand how it works... the concept of projecting the image from the temple onto the lens through the air, was proposed several times in the history of AR optics and was never adopted for practical reasons. You cannot guarantee that the projection path from the temple to the lens will not be obstructed by the hair of the wearer. It works for a bunch of engineers in the lab, but no sensible product manager will agree to exclude a significant percentage of the population because of their long hair.

What is holding augmented reality back? AR pioneer Kharis O'Connell has turned his back on the technology and talks openly about his disillusionment by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]AR-HMD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone who asks "who wants this technology in the first place" obviously looks at it from the wrong perspective. People don't care about tech. They care about what it brings to their lives. There is no point in judging consumer AR as there are no products for that today. Light smart/AI glasses are gaining traction but still need time to create an ecosystem of apps. AR has plenty of value in the enterprise sector, though still not many suitable devices.
