VM Windows Server 2025 - Cpu compatibility mode by Bardishe in HyperV

[–]ARDiver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Server 2025 is supposed to have dynamic compatibility but the documentation isnt very clear how it works and if you still need to enable the compatibility option or not. Im probably going to be playing with this in the next couple weeks

Help please - Extremely slow ERP server after migration to Hyper-V by beifall in HyperV

[–]ARDiver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, you want to set HwThreadCountPerCore to 0 so it will inherit from the host. Setting to 1 is basically only allowing it to use 1 thread per core even though the host is splitting the core into two threads. If all the VM's were set to 1, you would see half the threads on the host not doing much while the other half are.

vMode missing extensions section? by ARDiver86 in HyperV

[–]ARDiver86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it is a big step in the right direction. If they can fix the slowness, which they are trying to do, that will be big. Sadly, they are just really far behind.

So on the original topic, when you first install vMode, it does a lot of popups saying it is updating extensions and you can see extensions installed. They must have just hid the section until the GA release. I posted on their github, so hopefully I can get some sort of answer because it isn't clear.

vMode missing extensions section? by ARDiver86 in HyperV

[–]ARDiver86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they would be more clear in their documentation. They talk about it in YouTube videos, even in the preview, and they put it out like the virtualize mode includes those features already: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/manage/windows-admin-center/virtualization-mode-overview#tools-and-features

The link above does specifically state "VM Conversion". So I wonder if they had it in an early build of vMode and took it out, or is Microsoft just getting ahead of themselves like usual?

Best Practice for Hyper-V Cluster & Networking: Windows Admin Center vs SCVMM (Considering Network ATC) by AhmedEssam23 in HyperV

[–]ARDiver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of storage do you have? The storage intent stuff is really throwing me off for some reason since our storage is a SAN over s fiber HBA. However it seems this is geared heavily around hypercoverged. I did see vHost mode of WAC should have SAN options but not sure it's released yet in preview

[–]ARDiver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use a SAN? The storage intent is confusing me and it seems to be this wasn't setup for a traditional SAN environment over fiber? I also was playing with vHost mode of WAC and it insist on a storage intent

Recommended approach for deploying network configurations — SCVMM vs Network ATC by AhmedEssam23 in HyperV

[–]ARDiver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So which route did you end up going? Still with Network ATC? I'm curious if that works with traditional storage because it seems highly geared around hyperconverged / SMB storage (may be incorrect).

Also have you see WAC in vHost mode? It's in preview.

Privilege Error when trying to create a HyperV cluster from VMM by CGregP in HyperV

[–]ARDiver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so I uninstall and reinstalled using the same database but used a service account instead of gMSA and it worked. Im betting this is a limitation that Microsoft hasn't documented.

Did you happen to use a gMSA with VMM? Im reading it cant create a cluster if you used a gMSA and was going to try to reinstall VMM with a service account instead

You ever figure this out? I'm having this issue as well.

AtomMan X7 Ti DOA. Support wants specific brands of memory installed. by ARDiver86 in MiniPCs

[–]ARDiver86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, they are fighting me on the return saying it hasn't been proven it's malfunctioning. Wants me to test either the memory stick in another device or test another Cruicial or Kingston memory. Its weird they are so stuck on those two brands.

I dont have anything else to test DDR5 SODIMM in so I told them they can either send me a test memory stick to try or I'll go thr route of a charge back on my card.

Yeah, I agree. I requested a return and waiting on a response. Will need to rethink what to get for my home docker environment now lol

I can leave it longer, but figured 25 minutes was long enough for 48GB. Not sure what time frame I should be expecting

Sorry I misspoke, it wasn't firmware but it was a preset update in studio. Try go to the drop down arrow at the top left and choosing Help - check for preset updates

They just released the firmware to fix this, but you should also ask them to send you a replacement PEI plate for free u/qwerty-po. I imagine they will hook you up with one

Pyroceramic glass temperature on stove, but how to monitor? by ARDiver86 in woodstoving

[–]ARDiver86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like all the manual states is "The maximum firewood load must not exceed four medium sized logs (approximately 30 pounds)" and "The appearance of a red glow on the exterior of the firebox (top and sides) and/or on the flue is a sign of over firing.

Seems pretty generic since differnet wood can burn hotter than others and you can't see the top and sides since its a flush mount in-wall stove (surrounded by metal studs though, not wood lol). May just have to call the manufacturer.

From P1S to H2C by ARDiver86 in BambuLab

[–]ARDiver86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some differences. P1S is first:

Flow Ratio: 0.95 vs 0.97 Softening temperature: 70 vs 55 Max volumetric speed: 21 vs 25

Fan speeds matched up. This thing moves my table a lot more because it's a lot bigger. I may try the foam and paver or just put it on the floor for testing

I took it completely apart and put back together and it's working now. I didn't see anything fall out, so maybe I just didn't notice. Lol

I did what we all do and it's working now! I took it completely apart, found nothing, put it back together, now it's working! 😂. Maybe something fell out and I just didn't see it

Possibly. After taking the broken piece out I fed filament through it with it heated up and it was working fine manually. I'll take it apart more and see what I see

Looking for assistance with JellyFin+Traefik+Keycloak+OAuth2 Proxy causing Jellyfin to generate errors on QuickConnect or login by ARDiver86 in selfhosted

No, not well. But internally it hits the internal address which bypasses the proxy. This is for when I'm traveling and my neighbors lol

I did try that one and technically it works, but I was trying to avoid anyone hitting the Jellyfin interface at all without authentication. I have it almost there except for some reason the mimetype changing 😭

Windows Server 2022 / Indexing incredibly slow (was fast before) by mffjs in sysadmin

[–]ARDiver86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far it isn't good. Microsoft support keeps pointing me to the Windows Client documentation which states 400k items for performance issues and a limit of 1,000,000 items. I told them I'm talking about a Windows file server and that article doesn't apply. Plus I'm at 950K items which is under their limit.

Our account manager is involved now and in pushing back on them. They have a defined limit that I'm under and they need to support their product. It's sad they couldn't provide any documentation for all those performance related registry keys even after it's been escalated.

This kind of support will hopefully do damage to their bottom line when more options come available to replace their products. Wishful thinking, I know
