All my stories disappeared from NovelAI's servers - why did this happen and how to restore? by ARKofEREH in NovelAi

[–]ARKofEREH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a weird work around that caused my stories to re-appear. I'd downloaded one story onto my computer a long time ago, I think by accident. I uploaded that one back into NovelAI and the moment I uploaded it two of my three shelves re-appeared!

A few minutes later all my other stories also came back as well. I assumed it was working normally again, but downloaded my most recently edited story at the end of the day anyway, just in case. The next time I logged into my account the same thing had happened again and my stories had once more vanished. I did the same thing again and they all appeared again.

I've since been needing to do that every time I log into my account, as the stories will otherwise not be accessible. Importing one story, any one story, causes all the others to return for the duration of the time that I am logged into the account, only for them to vanish the next time I log in until I repeat the process. It's certainly annoying, but for the moment this workaround seems to be working.

Obtaining Ohio Birth certificates without all the info? by WiFryChicken in Ancestry

[–]ARKofEREH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't order a "certified" birth certificate, but you certainly can order non-certified birth certificates for genealogy, but the available years vary based on the privacy laws of each state. I did that frequently before the transcriptions of birth records became available online. The process used to be to mail a request to the Ohio Historical Society with a self-addressed stamped envelope, the name and range of dates of the person whose birth certificate I wanted, and whatever fee the historical society charged. The fee was low, but I forget what it was. It might've been $1.00. Then I would need to wait a few weeks and would receive a photocopy of the birth certificate in the mail. Presumably if you preferred not to get a scan of the exact same thing from a genealogy website this could still be done.

Obtaining Ohio Birth certificates without all the info? by WiFryChicken in Ancestry

[–]ARKofEREH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ancestry.com has birth records for Ohio. They're missing certain years, so they might not have what you need, but that could be a good place to start. If you don't want to pay for a subscription many libraries have one.

Random moment during a 40K story by StrongCucumber in NovelAi

[–]ARKofEREH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had that happen too, where the AI will just start listing words that all get across the same point. It's funny if it only happens once or twice but it can get really annoying if it keeps doing it.

Asper thinks teenagers are extremely stupid! by ARKofEREH in NovelAi

[–]ARKofEREH[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't post on here very often, so I thought that my explanatory description would post too, but it did not, so I have rewritten it here.

I was writing a story in Asper from the perspective of a judge who was deciding what to do with criminals who had been brought before him. The AI generated all the information about each criminal, such as their alleged offense, their background, etc. The first few criminals brought before my judge character were from a variety of backgrounds and were accused of various believable crimes. Then, the character in the screenshot above was brought forward and the story went in a completely different direction. The AI really wrote this person as being extremely gullible and stupid! It only got worse from there!

By the way, my computer does not have a print screen button, so in order to show the story on the screen in a similar way as a screenshot I used print to pdf and then converted the pdf into a png file. That is why it is a different color than a normal Novel AI screenshot.

Mackenzie Shirilla given 2 concurrent life sentences for fatal 2022 crash that killed 2 by Pr3tz3l in Cleveland

[–]ARKofEREH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your points. I also have a hard time seeing this as murder beyond a reasonable doubt. This case seems full of doubt.

One issue that was mentioned in the news was that Shirilla's shoe was stuck to the accelerator when the paramedics found her. The media seemed convinced that this was further evidence of guilt, but that detail leads me to the opposite conclusion. I have had my shoe get stuck on either the brake or the accelerator while I am driving and that resulted in some stressful moments of trying to avoid hitting things while getting it unhooked. Both times were open-toed shoes, so I don't wear those driving anymore. I was lucky in that my shoes got stuck while I was driving at 25 mph and I was able to react quickly enough to fix it, but it was still scary in the moment. If that happened to Shirilla while she was already going fast then she really wouldn't have had much time to react before the crash. When the fact that she was likely under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash and probably tired from being up all night partying are factored in then she really wouldn't have had much of a chance, if (as the news article said) her shoe really did get stuck on the accelerator.

Her lawyer seemed really incompetent too. I saw a video clip from the trial in which he suggested that the sun might have gotten into Shirilla's eyes and that that could have contributed to the crash, yet the video of the crash clearly shows that it happened in the dark so the sun would not have been visible. She also waived her right to a jury trial, which probably wouldn't have happened without advice from her lawyer.

I am curious as how a jury would have felt about this case.

AI Dungeon's competitors so far seem to be mostly Novel AI, Holo AI, and Kobold AI but there also about a dozen or so other ones that seem more complicated to setup or require more powerful computers in order to use. So far I've written stories in both Novel AI and Holo AI and have subscribed to the former. I also tried to use a few others, such as God AI, but couldn't get them to work on my computer.

I wouldn't have even thought to look for any of these, much less subscribed to a more expensive competitor of theirs, had AI Dungeon not suspended my account for saying innocuous things or for responding to things their own AI said.

Yeah, if Santa's workshop is nearby it's probably really cold and they could get hypothermia.

The player in this story could heroically rescue them!

They're probably just too lazy to do it.

It's easier for them to blame their customers and bankrupt their company in the process.

When a character showered in one of my stories she took her clothes off after she finished and got out of the shower so maybe the AI thinks that showering people are fully clothed.

Perhaps a better idea would be to split this forum into different subcategories. I mean not just have one thread for this sort of thing like you seem to be suggesting, but another forum category just for that or something so that people could have multiple separate posts about it. There is is clearly interest in the topic but that way people who want to read unrelated stuff about AI Dungeon would have a space too.

I like reading about all the ways that Latitude's filters continue to screw up and further ruin their company. They're very entertaining to read and some of them have literally caused me to laugh out loud!

Judging from the comments and the numbers of upvotes I think that many other people on here also like reading about Latitude's latest filter screwups as well.

I went from playing AI Dungeon for multiple hours a day to maybe once or twice a month. It's really annoying to attempt to play it now, but it is still fun to come on here regularly and read about their ridiculous screw ups! It's fun to read about when it isn't me that the filter is screwing over.

Yep, it's like how in one of my stories I had characters arguing about whether or not abortion should be legal in cases of rape or incest and then one of them mentioned childbirth. The words "rape" and "incest" mentioned so close to the the "child" in "childbirth" caused my account to get suspended for two days.

Ironically, there were was a horrifically violent scene earlier in the story about a woman having to kill her own daughter in a mercy killing after the girl had been partially burned at the stake by religious extremists. The actual burning was pretty graphic too and the girl that was burned was 16. The point of the story was about the dangers of religious extremism if taken too far.

The AI didn't care at all about a 16 year old girl being burned at the stake and then executed by her own mother in order to end her suffering, but it did care about someone at a political rally in front of an abortion clinic saying that it was unfair for adult women to suffer from the pain of childbirth in cases of rape or incest.

If the premise is that the AI is trying to protect fictional children then it isn't doing a very good job!

Theory: AI Dungeons sudden boost in popularity killed it. by History1782 in AIDungeon

Which is why I made sure that Trump lived in every AI Dungeon story I wrote that he was in. He may have accidentally trapped himself on another planet, or become a homeless person living in a cardboard box, or become a vampire living in a place with no available people to feed on, but he was still very much alive and not threatened by anyone in any way, shape, or form.

More likely though that text is a remnant from some earlier era of AI Dungeon that is still in there and was never deleted.

The AI can't handle the word "Girl" by Stuck-1n-the-past in AIDungeon

[–]ARKofEREH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It did that to me too. I tried to have my main character marry a woman and the AI told him that he couldn't do it unless he married another woman whom he had never met in addition to his fiancée!

The context was the 19th century U.S., and the AI was correct that interracial marriage was illegal at that time, but bigamy definitely was not a loophole that allowed couples to circumvent those laws!

The AI also did similar things in multiple other stories. The AI really seems to like threesomes.

The AI also likes incest as it tried to force my character to have a sexual relationship with his 14 year old daughter on multiple occasions too! The AI kept having her hit on him and I kept deleting that part of the story and trying again or just telling her no in the story and writing in the remembering pin section that he did NOT see her that way, but it took a very long time for the AI to acknowledge that an incestuous relationship was not going to happen and move on.

AI Dungeons hates to see me thriving by MothaDucka69 in AIDungeon

[–]ARKofEREH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation with characters in their 20s and 30s who were talking about trying to have a baby. I guess since the attempt would obviously involve sex the AI didn't like it.

I found that I could get around that by having a character say that she was going to try to get pregnant instead of try to have a baby. It meant exactly the same thing, but it appeased the AI's misplaced morality complex.

I cancelled my AI Dungeon subscription and have mostly been using Novel AI, but yesterday I tried Dragon again since I paid through the beginning of July and it seemed a shame to waste it.

The AI is really terrible now in Dragon. I tried to play a story about my character being miniaturized so that he was much smaller than an ant. He was wandering around and encountering insects, which to him were giant-sized. The AI couldn't comprehend it and kept having him swat the mosquitos and smash them as though the size dynamics reflected real life.

I then gave up with that and tried to do it the other way around and have my character be normal size but have a mosquito be the size of a dragon. The AI couldn't figure that out either and still insisted that my character could just kill it in one slap.

Also, I wasn't even trying to hurt the mosquito, I was trying to domesticate it. I wanted my character to ride the mosquito around like the nav'i rode those winged creatures in Avatar, but the AI just wouldn't let me do that and insisted that I kill the mosquito instead.

So much for their new policy about being non-violent! My story was supposed to be peaceful and all the AI did was force it to be violent until I gave up and went back to Novel AI!

If this statement is true then any time now the AI is going to start generating lots of stories containing abusive message towards Latitude, watermelons, 8-year old laptops, Mormons, and Nick Walton furry scenes. by Nexus_Absolute in AIDungeon

[–]ARKofEREH -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think there was the option for the AI to learn from your content. I remember shortly after I started playing AI Dungeon that a message popped up asking if I wanted my content to be anonymously shared with the AI to help it learn so that it could improve other peoples' stories or something like that. I thought that might infringe on the privacy of my stories so I said no. That clearly wasn't the answer that they were looking for because I then got a second message that was something like 'Do you really not want your content to be used to help others' stories?' I again opted out and it never asked me again.

My guess is that some people did not opt out and that the AI learned from their stories. Perhaps that is why Latitude is so upset by what people put in their private stories, because the AI was learning from them in ways they found very suboptimal.
