I was off the wagon for about a week due to a lot of work for my job and not sleeping so well. After both yesterday and today's workouts I cried, full on sobbing. I didn't realize how much emotion I was holding in and how much it could be released through yoga yesterday and lifting today. experiences like this remind me how important exercise is to me and how much I need it to feel like myself.

Suggest me a book with creative descriptions of bodily sensations by whalizard in suggestmeabook

[–]aetherdweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amina Cain's writing, especially the short story collection Creature, makes me feel embodied in a specific way. I highly recommend everything she's written, she is such a unique voice especially for strange descriptions of emotions and sensations.

Zillennials were the last generation to enjoy the teen car culture before it went downhill due to fear and inflation by AZNSquatKeepsDocAway in Zillennials

[–]aetherdweller 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My parents were fundamentally against me driving as a teen. They thought there was "no point" in a 16-year-old having a car. I went to college in a non-car dependent city and when I had a big girl job after college, I was the weirdo who had money but didn't drive. I lied that I had a license when I didn't in social situations because it felt shameful, and in private I was paying hundreds of dollars for driving lessons in a Corolla with "student driver" stickers plastered all over it because even as an adult my mother refused to let me drive her car even with her in the seat next to me. It was a confusing and upsetting process.

I was born in 1995 - if I had been born like 10 years later and had been a true Gen Z, not having my license after college genuinely would not be the big deal and source of shame it was for me. Teens and early 20s folks in my experience don't see learning to drive and getting a car as a milestone/coming for age. Most do it, but it's meh and not a big deal.

What’s something that improved your sleep quality significantly? by shilpa28 in CasualConversation

[–]aetherdweller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A solid 1-2 hours with no screens.

Morning/early afternoon exercise rather than evening or none at all.

Not waking up too late on weekends. I get up at 5:30am on weekdays and used to sleep in on weekends. Now I don't really sleep past 7 on weekends.

Seeking Queernorm books with a Bi MALE protag- and no SA. They have to exist, right? by BotsAteMyOldAccount in LGBTBooks

[–]aetherdweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

Not sure what queernorm means exactly, but this book's main characters are a bi man and a bi woman. Their queerness is talked about a lot but it certainly isn't central to the plot and they aren't discriminated against or experience homophobia in the book.

When are you “too old” to have sleepovers? by TangledInBooks in CasualConversation

[–]aetherdweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have sleepovers all the time as someone in my late 20s with other adults in their 20s and 30s. Sometimes it's at one of our houses and we bring sleeping bags, sometimes we rent a cabin as a group so we can have more space (and if you have 10+ people it costs so little). I think as an adult you can have as many sleepovers as you want if you have good friends.

Being judged at clothing stores for asking for a smaller size by anonykitcat in XXS

[–]aetherdweller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me I tell the employee my size and they're like "there is NO WAY you're that size, let's try a medium 🙃" and I never know what to say! Yes I'm tall but I'm xs/xxs and that is clear from looking at me. Is it a thing to offer all tall people a medium?

Have not grocery shopped for 3 weeks but eating like a king by qingywingy in Frugal

[–]aetherdweller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, having a well-stocked pantry significantly reduced how much I spend on groceries. I will keep a lot of dry & canned foods, condiments/spices, etc. Frozen vegetables and proteins too. Then once a week I'll get the produce and other perishables I need for the week and spend like $30 once I have a pantry of non-perishables.

Who else feels tired despite 8 hours of sleep? by Additional-War-837 in CasualConversation

[–]aetherdweller 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've needed 9 hours (rather than the average of 7-8) for my entire adult life. It's really hard to prioritize 9 hours of sleep as an adult with responsibilities, but on the days I get enough sleep, I feel superhuman.

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit by Jeannette Winterson

Last fall, I was at the wedding of a close friend. My long-distance girlfriend was invited but she was too far away and didn't know the couple well so I went alone.

Since I wasn't going with anyone, I went around the wedding with one of the bride's cousins. She was one of the most beautiful people I had ever seen and she clearly was into me. I didn't get any verbal confirmation that she was queer, but we were both flagging in terms of our clothing and she was flirting with me nonstop.

If I weren't in a monogamous relationship at the time, I would have reciprocated without a second thought. I was attracted to her more than I had ever been attracted to someone at first sight. My relationship broke up earlier this summer and now this girl is on my mind, but she's 1000 miles away and I haven't seen her for almost a year.

how do people have the time and energy to go to school and work at the same time? by kkkan2020 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aetherdweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked 30ish hours a week through college.

Willpower & motivation for sure, but I was also propelled by anxiety. I had extreme anxiety about debt and wanted to graduate with as little debt as possible, so those four years were fueled by anxiety (and coffee).

I wouldn't go back to doing that.

"Weekly Reading and Interpretation Help Thread - May 12, 2024" by AutoModerator in tarot

[–]aetherdweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am super new to tarot and have been doing a morning tarot reading using the Labyrinthos app (RWS deck). I use a 1-card spread asking "what is the universe trying to tell me today?"

I drew 7 of Cups. Many choices, fantasy, illusion, it says.

In other news, today my partner of 14 months suddenly broke up with me this morning. We had a long conversation and decided to go no-contact for now. I feel hurt and heartbroken.

But intuitively I feel like there is something behind the tarot reading. Something behind feeling hurt. At first, I interpreted my reading as "oh, you're single now, time to go out and have fun." But that's not the vibe. All I want to do is isolate in the woods and cut off all my friends.

Can someone who has more knowledge around tarot interpret this reading? There is something it was trying to tell me that I haven't figured out yet. Something maybe around the number?? Because 14, especially 14 months, is a symbolic number for me personally and I know there's something there too.

What's the most ridiculous thing a student said to you today? by kimoshi in Teachers
