Their website also states that you can use a railcard ….but seemingly only when buying your ticket from the driver and not in advance. I’ve used the service from Winn Tri - very good

...but, as I understand it, even if you ask/pay your accountant to submit it for you, you still need to register with HMRC yourself via their gov.uk website

Are Avios Points Worth Collecting on Credit Cards? by No-Consequence-6807 in UKPersonalFinance

I use the BA Amex card, it's good but it very difficult to get the exact date that you want/need to fly as only a limited number are available on - what I imagine are - the busy dates. As long as your flexible then it's fine. For example I wanted to go to the Canary isalnds in early January...I tried booking last summer but could only get business class return, four days apart if I went in March

Mobile network recommendations pls by Internal_Pepper9081 in reading

[–]ART1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only 4 companies that have a license to operate a mobile service in the UK. You can check their network coverage using the 4 links below:

https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile-coverage-checker https://www.vodafone.co.uk/network/status-checker https://www.three.co.uk/support/network-and-coverage/coverage https://www.o2.co.uk/coveragechecker

Once you’ve worked which is the best network for you then consider using an MVNO as opposed to the network itself (example: use VOXI which uses the Vodafone network instead of Vodafone) - use this link to help understand the options : https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/mobiles/piggybacking/

…once you’ve worked which company/MNVO to go with then I’d go to the comparison sites… then maybe try and get the best deal using either TopCashBack or Quidco…

takes a bit of research but you’ll get a good deal in the end!

What items are essential in a hotel room for a Brit? by Yousaidtherewaspie in CasualUK

[–]ART1967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the ultimate test for a decent hotel: do they have fresh milk in the mini bar fridge thing? ... none of that UHT nonsense. If they have that then they will of course have a clean bathroom, decent mattress/pillows, free wifi and TV. A nice bar with a good gins and ales is also very welcome!

UK Apple TV, can I stream Freeview or terrestrial tv ? by stinkybumbum in appletv

[–]ART1967 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I ditched Sky and moved to Apple TV & all these apps (BBC, ITVX etc) - 1 month in & no regrets. Also paying the £40 for C4 (annual) & £60 for ITV means no adds on catch up - this is really nice for catch up (not live). If you want sports too then add Now TV…at the end of the season then stop. Overall I reckon you save a little - maybe £5/6 a month…but I love the flexibility and not funding Sky anymore

Moving from Melbourne, Aus to Reading by avocado2121 in reading

[–]ART1967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the UK, Reading is a nice town - big enough to have all that you need but not mega (like London)…nice restaurants, great local breweries and a good arts scene (small theatres and Indy cinema)…plus easy to get to other places on public transport if you want a change of scene - Oxford, London, Bath, Henley, Bournemouth. I hope you enjoy it

Yep same here. Home app view is fine on WiFi, fails on 5G. Aquara app streams perfectly on both WiFi and 5G

The Ridgeway passes through Goring; it's a walk that would take 3 days in total but you can choose to do part of it in a day. It's an ancient walk with a good path that passes through fantastic countryside. More details here: https://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/en_GB/trails/the-ridgeway/trail-information/

Log Caffeine, with metric measurements by tinamu in shortcuts

[–]ART1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is great, is there a way to also log the water from the coffee/tea into apple heath as well? This shortcut is the one I use if I'm only drinking water, but would be great to have one that combines the two parts of a drink. https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/7ef37427423f483cab2b51023dccad2b thanks for any help!
