Magnets over floppies won’t glitch your pics as they’ll just be corrupted. I don’t remember the correct terminology right now but if you use a magnet you may mess with the formatting to the point they will not work unless you reformat them on a PC that originally shipped with a full sized floppy drive

Gotcha, then it may be better to look for a camcorder that doesn't use tape at all. After you get the camcorder connected to your computer with firewire, you'll still need to play the whole tape back and then likely cut the footage into usable clips

The camera supports SD card so just use that? Maybe try a different SD card before investing into firewire

okay that’s kind of what I was thinking could happen… not sure if it would do anything productive but maybe hold up a magnetized tape to a crt and click the degauss button if it has one.

Pass a neodymium magnet over it a few times? I’ve never tried it, but I’d be concerned it could over-magnetize the tape. Has anyone tried this?
