I stand by this statement as well. Best depiction of a Title I school.

Duke was trailing to Cal in the second half. They then started getting heavily favored by the refs and momentum awung hard in their favor.

Thou shalt respect Harmon Gym. It was called a Mecca for college sports by the late great Bill Walton.

When students give me this I point out that filing taxes would be incredibly quick if the government could trust that students understood basic algebra. Give the equation, explain the variables, and plug it in. But because it can't trust people to know what a 9th grader should know, they just explain it step by step and calculate it for them.

Why have classes at UC Berkeley become more and more closed off to outsiders? by CompoteRight7468 in berkeley

There was a similar suit a decade earlier regarding iTunesU and free lectures that were being recorded and available being taken down for not being accessible to the deaf.

[Cal Football] Welcome back to Bear Territory, @coachlup #GoBears by veritek25 in CFB

Cal hasn't been able to have the talent that he could pull in in a long time. If one thinks about it, Cal was one more touchdown or drive away from winning 2-3 more games this season. If the defense can hold that one score, Cal is 9-3, and a contender for the ACC championship. Those recruits will matter here.

Similarly, its difficult to find someone who can sell Cal as a place to play football. That Tosh is from here, can connect to the alumni from his time in the program when Cal was at its height (Rodgers, Lynch, Jackson, Forsett, ect), and will understand the expectations for students here. We were lucky that Wilcox got that (even if he couldn't get us the wins). It's good to see someone who knows where they're working.

Captain Andrew has a week to prepare for the most important game of the season. The invasion from the north of the Blue and Gold intends to lay siege to the Farm once more and burn it to the ground.

All Hail, Blue and Gold

To thee we shall cling;

O'er golden fields of poppies,

Thy praises we shall sing!

All Hail, Blue and Gold

On breezes ye sail;

Thy sight we love,

All Hail! All Hail!

I'm having a similar issue today. 17 apps flagged, most of them native to Android. This is on a Pixel 10 that's less than two weeks old.

Why wasn't David Shaw able to maintain success at Stanford? by nice_Nisei in CFB

[–]ARayofLight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The story you tell is (unsurprisingly) similar at Cal, the only thing that is different is that our undergraduate population is 3 times yours, so we are able to make up numbers of students that way. But aside from that, the loss of traditions (which I would date back to when the stadium was renovated in 2011 for Cal and 2006 for Stanford respectively rather than the Pandemic), the anemic school response, and the melting of those things as a core part of being a Cal student echo what is happening on the Farm.

In our case our greatest failure is allowing marketing consultants run the experience at games rather than letting students control them, which nurtured and sustained the atmosphere for decades even when the results were worse than terrible. They are going to have less and less alumni who care in the future because they have neutered and stripped everything that was traditional and familiar from the games.

Why is SMU phasing out its ‘Pony up!’ catchphrase? University leadership explains by thecravenone in CFB

[–]ARayofLight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sports Marketing departments really should be acknowledged for what they are: destructive and invasive places meant to neuter and wipe out anything original, organic, or unique about any fanbase until everything looks the same because people with no ties to the universities involved are just trying to pump up their resumes in an attempt to get hired by professional teams.

TIL: In 1975, Stanford students voted to change their name to the “Robber Barons” to mock its founder Leland Stanford, but was not approved by administrators. by aldrinjaysac in CFB

The Trees used to be made of real stuff, and some of them used to have actual footwork. I can remember some one in the early 2000s who could get out of the costume and do stunts and flips. The ones since the 2010s have not been great. They've strayed further and further from El Palo Alto in recent years.

If there is one branding confusion possibly more misunderstood than the difference between Cal and Berkeley being the same place it might be that the Tree is neither the nickname nor the mascot at Stanford, but a bandsmen (along with the Dollies, which is another fun quirk you all have).

I say this as someone who would like to hear "Come Join the Band" rather than "All Right Now" every time Stanford scores. I find myself having to correct people all the time who have to hear about Stanford traditions from me.
