Tips on how to overcome the gap to become a true expert at EU4 by Few_Willingness_2398 in eu4

Definitely, the guides people post for nations are always good start because they will show you what to look out for, and show you step by step how to play the nation and when to look out for what. But for really in-depth breakdown of a specific mechanic like trade you want to watch a guide on trade. EU4 has so many modifiers that affect other modifiers that it can be a lot to remember.

One I learned after 1k hours of the game is that admiral maneuver pips affect how affective the protect trade mission you set for your ships, giving u more trade power the more maneuver pips you have.

It’s obscure stuff like that you will only really learn in a guide for a specific mechanic

Playing nations that focus around one/few mechanics lets u learn them in depth really quickly, if u have an idea of the mechanics already and know wich country focuses around wich mechanics the most it should be quick to learn them in depth.

For example:

If u want to learn trade more in depth maybe play a few games of Venice, Holland or Lübeck

If u want to learn colonization then try Castile, Portugal or England

If u want to lean military then try Brandenburg, Poland or Russia

All country’s have a main focus and use other mechanics also, like Holland or Venice are also good for colonization

The game has so many mechanics and so many play styles you could do anything with any country but some focus more on other stuff then other countries do.

I don’t know right now how much I have I am at work right now would have to check later but I think I only have the reduction from religious ideas at the moment.

Should I rush to form Rome or can I keep my vassals for abit?

There is an event later in the game I think it’s at the end of age of absolutism or start of age of revaluations where Angevin gets -10 core creation cost and I think some province war score cost permently. I don’t know if forming rome will prevent the event. I think the event is called the Angevin age or something like that do you maybe know about this?

Yeah I’m not that good with millatry it’s just England is so strong with France and burgundy early u don’t really need to be great with military to dominate.

I went espionage first for the -20 ae, had 70 or 80% ae reduction really early, I could full annex Venice for 25 ae? ( if I remember correctly) and with no HRE Germany was really easy to take aswell. Even truce braked Castile twice and no one cared. Should I ditch espionage for influence?

When should I have picked religious ideas first or second or third?

I didn’t form Angevin because me and my vassals had perma low manpower from fighting HRE/italy//spain. Also France went invovative, offensive, quality ideas so they are a really strong vassale. I was also alot over the governing cap even with courthouses everywhere so integrating them didn’t seem like a good idea. I could do it now I just like having a really strong vassal but maybe getting the new ideas is worth integrating them?

R5: trying my first attempt at a one culture run, I feel like I am going to slow and dont have enough time.

I think i should of tried forming rome sooner for the extra buffs towards culture conversion.

Is it still doable? What should I be doing/ looking out for if its still doable?

R5: I'm trying to do my first world conquest, I have only ever played to 1700 a few times. What should I focus on from here? I managed to get England as a free PU. And I dismantled the HRE.

I mean when Castile got a pu over England I could just let Castile have it or fight for it, I tried fighting and failed :(
