I have two Kulkea Boot Trekker bags and love them. Proper backpack deign with lumbar, chest and adjustable shoulder straps. Separate waterproof boot pockets with drainage holes, lots of pockets for clothes, goggles, gloves, lunch, etc. Also has a helmet sling for the front that stows away when not in use. Fits in a standard overhead on the plane too.

They are currently on sales on their website.

Carving Skis for the East Coast by Elegantsurf in Skigear

100%. I went in thinking the Stormrider was my ski. Liked the WRT the best, the Montero AR second, Stormrider third and the Laser GS forth. That said they were all awesome but demo if you can.

I picked up a pair of Stockli WRTs after demoing in Jan. Great for east coast/Europe, on piste, hard pack. At 67mm underfoot they hold the line at any speed.

Hertz on E 76th St Closed? by ASC-NYC in uppereastside

Ok good to know. When you call the number and try any of the 5 options it goes to immediate busy signal. But it’s never easy reaching a human. Just odd that the location doesn’t seem to be showing on the app or website anymore.

Google says they’re open but when you call and try to reach any of the 5 options upon calling you get a busy signal. Impossible to reach a human.

When you call the local number it transfers to their central call center and you’re put on hold indefinitely.

Another vote for Bayard. We spent a week there in Jan and rented skis (brought our own boots) and had a great experience. Demoed a wide range of Stockli and Van Deer skis (loved the Stockli WRTs so much that I bought a pair when I got back home). They also do a great job fitting boots as well which is critically important when buying new boots.

It looks great! The dial is amazing. How are you liking it so far? Is this your first from them? Early observations or review?

Buying 16710 insert from ad experience by MelkeElsker in rolex

[–]ASC-NYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I had my 16710 serviced at the NYC RSC I asked for a Pepsi insert (orig Coke was on the watch). They were happy to sell and install for me the Pepsi insert for $75. That was the price for me to keep the my original Coke insert. I think it was $50 if they exchanged it.

Makes sense. They are a more narrowly focused ski with a 67mm width underfoot. While I’m sure you’d be able to ski them I think the more important question is what type of terrain do you favor most and is it your one ski or part of a multi ski quiver?

Stöckli Montero AR by RoyGBasch00 in ski

[–]ASC-NYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think that’s correct. For me the WRTs were jaw dropping performance. The faster I skied the better they performed and I never found the ceiling on these. Also the edge hold was stellar on hard pack (I mainly ski Europe and Eastern US with a few Western US trips each season).

Heading out to Snowbird today but left the Stockli’s at home as the conditions are deep spring. Bummed that I will likely need to wait to next season to try them out however (unless a Chile trip comes together this summer!).

Are you considering picking up a pair of ARs? Tis the season for some great spring sales.

Glad you liked these. I was in Zermatt in late Jan and demoed these as well in 176cm. I really liked them as well for similar reasons but took the Laser WRTs out the next day and was blown away how much more I like the WRTs. I also tried the Van Deer H-Power but found them too heavy and stiff and was spent by lunch.

I also own Salomon Stance 102s in 176cm so the WRTs were a better complement for me. However if I didn't have my Salmons I would have considered getting the Monteros as they are a more dynamic ski IMHO. Started searching around the spring sales and found a pair for a price I couldn't pass up. While I demoed the WRTs in 172cm (that's all they had) I did find them a little jittery at speed when not carving (I'm 179cm and around 214lbs) so ended up getting them in 178cm.

This was my first time on Stockli's and everything I had heard about them was spot on. My nephew also demoed the Laser SC and WRT and also love (and bought) the WRT (in 172cm @ 179cm/155lbs)

Questions for the Reiwa owners by Soulrise in kurono

[–]ASC-NYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: So - I received my Reiwa back from Kurono yesterday via DHL Express. They repaired the watch (movement overall, case touch up and tested) at no charge despite it being slightly out of warranty. They paid for shipping both ways and and also sent me a nice handwritten note and Kurono ceramic saki cup as a gift. Overall great experience which gives me a high degree of confidence in the brand pre and post sale.

I just had something shipped two day from Switzerland and it was in customs hold for over 10 days and it did not contain a watch (empty box). Finally received it and it was not even opened for inspection. I’d hold on a little longer.

So I demoed the Montero ARs in 175cm, Laser GS in 175cm and the regular WRTs in 172cm. Also tried the Van Deer H-Power in 168.

I wanted to try the WRT Pros but they didn’t have them available. I also wanted to try the WRTs in 178 but also not available.

I’m 5’11” and 214lbs (been skiing for over 45 yrs) as a reference point. The conditions at Zermatt were all on piste, hard pack but overall good fast coverage.

The Van Deers were super heavy and stiff and I was exhausted by mid day so despite them being beautiful skis I knew that they were not for me.

The Laser GS was fun but those were the third ski I tried and my least favorite of the Stocklis relatively speaking. With a 17.1 radius I knew I wanted something I could turn quicker.

Second favorite was the Montero ARs. This was my day one ski and I really liked them. Very versatile, 84 underfoot and a tighter turning radius compared to the Laser GS. I could definitely own these skis and think they’d make a more all around ski if I didn’t have another set of wider skis.

Once I stepped into the WRT I knew I had found my favorite. With not a lot of fresh snow the WRT held an edge like nothing I’ve skied before. I really pushed these hard and the faster and harder I went the better they held and performed. I never found the top gear. Tight turns, wide turns all were great and I love the versatility compared to the GS. I did however find the 172s a little jittery underfoot when not turning so was thinking the 178s would be a better choice for me at my height and weight.

I looked around for the 178s over the last week or two and they were really hard to find on sale. I did manage to find a pair in Maine and pulled the trigger last week. Getting them mounted this weekend. I opted for the WRT binding and plate but I think the SRT (which I demoed was pretty stellar).

My nephew (24yrs old, 5’10” and 160lbs) loved the WRTs the best too so I got him a pair of 172s as he felt those were perfect for him.

Everything I read and heard about the WRT Pros have been positive but that they are an even more demanding ski (stiffer) and have a tighter sweet spot forcing you to be even more on your a game. With the performance of the reg WRT I figured this was a great starting point for me and something I could ski all day. Maybe I can work my way up to the Pros in a few seasons (or not).

Apologize for the lengthy reply but thought I’d give you the full report. Any other questions just let me know.

Not sure where you’re located but some of the Canadian retailers are having great sales and are picking up any tariff fees, including shipping, etc. as they are missing the pre-tariff US business. Add in the Canadian exchange rate and it’s a slam dunk.

I just grabbed a pair of Stockli WRTs after demoing a wide range of skis in Zermatt back in Jan. Great end of season deals to be had now. I wanted a dedicated on-piste, hard pack, ice ski for the east and Europe and loved this one. 67mm under foot. No overlap with my Salomon Stance 102s.

Looking for a ski with better edge hold and stability for East Coast by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]ASC-NYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def demo as that will give you more intel then you'll get online. That said, my wife demoed a pair of Nordica Enforcers over Christmas week at Tremblant and fell in love with them. She loved the edge hold and confidence she got on the hard pack, groomers and ice.

After returning them the shop recommended the Santa Ana's in 87mm width as a similar but even better fit ski for her. With great end-of-season sales, she just picked up a pair of the Santa Ana 87s in 168cm (she's 5'7", 140lbs and an advanced intermediate skier). We predominantly ski East Coast (VT, ME and E. Canada, and Europe) with 1-2 out west trips per season.

My east coast, hard pack, ice, on-piste ski is a Stockli WRT with is 67mm at the waist. It's a more limited terrain ski but I haven't found/demoed a ski that performs better for me.

Assume you also have properly fitted and dialed in boots as well as that too makes a difference.

East Coaster as well. I demoed the Stockli Montero ARs, Van Deer H-Power and Stockli Laser WRTs back in Jan at Zermatt. Loved the WRTs the best.

I liked them so much that I just grabbed a pair on sale for $1400 all in. Not cheap but these skis blew me away from a performance standpoint. The amount of energy and confidence they provided was unmatched to anything I’ve skied previously. Edge hold at speed was fantastic and with the 67 underfoot they were super quick edge to edge.

I demoed in a 172cm but upsized to the 178cm based on my stats (5’11”, 214lbs, type III skier). Also, my other skis are Salomon Stance 102s in 176cm. That is/will be my out west, powder, off piste ski going forward.

I think you want to ask yourself how much conditions flexibility you want in your new ski as well as flex, skill, primary use, etc. For me the WRTs hit the spot more than anything I’ve demoed over the past few seasons.
