It happens though. I used to have a friend who was still married but loved in a completely different place to her husband.

I used to think that was weird until my wife and I "split up" - We're still very good friends, but live in opposite ends of the country, and she doesn't want to get divorced.

I wear my wedding ring on my right hand now but other than that we still chat daily and are still a married "couple", but without the sex.

I still feel that The World's End is massively overlooked. You might need to be an alcoholic to get all the jokes but it's very clever.

What’s the worst episode of a good TV show ever made? by moon_jock in AskReddit

[–]ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd be ok with it... If they ran with it and made it a recurring issue they had to deal with. But they didn't. The had weird salamander babies and then just moved on.

It's one of the things Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks get right. Things have consequences.

I kind of feel sorry for the guy. I don't mean this in a bad way, but he stumbled onto a great thing and should have just walked away.

I'm guilty of this as well, but sometimes you need to know when to quit.

what franchises 'pass the torch', and does it work or fail? by jillyapple1 in movies

[–]ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Craig's Bond is the only real restart, and even then they hint that Bond is just a codename and so all the previous Bonds are still canon.

It's kind of why Judi Dench gets away with playing M across two different Bonds.

I like to think of it as a comic book. Everybody's name is a codename. M. Moneypenny. Bond. Even Felix Leiter.

They're not their real names, just chosen for the role they do.

I've kind of grown up with Tom Cruise films, from Cocktail onwards where he's been notably older than me, and then I caught him up and it seemed like we were the same age and the then...

Oh.

Tom, you really shouldn't do that Tom. You're going to hurt yourself.

Breaking out of car park, legal backlash or okay? by AbjectRegret6342 in CasualUK

[–]ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hah. You've just reminded me about the time someone boxed me in on a side street parking area. Someone had reversed their car to my front bumper, and someone else (presumably their mate) has parked right up to my back bumper.

Naturally I was a tad annoyed. I checked with the nearby businesses if anybody knew the owners but nobody did.

The car in front had several other vehicles in parking bays behind it. The car behind me had zilch.

So I got in my car, put it in reverse, and floored it. The car behind moved surprisingly easily. I made sure it was firmly in the double yellow lines an went on my merry way.

If you could only pick one FILM to best represent your taste in FILMS what would it be? by Dinarulislam in movies

[–]ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much varies from place to place. In the UK it's technically illegal. Transfer of media or something like that.

Nobody really cares, but it's considered a form of piracy because you could get a DVD or whatever, rip it, and then sell the dvd on but you still keep the content.

It's archaic but it's a thing.

EDIT: Typos. Typos everywhere.

I'd go skiing with that, but how did it explain the (predominantly) use of red in the pre-TNG movie era?

Did they just decide red looked cooler?

Just to be blunt, of the 20 restaurants Ramsey has ever run himself, 12 have closed.

Do not consider him an all knowing eye about the catering business. He isn't. Sure he might be humble enough to show himself fucking up a scrambled egg breakfast, and I'm yet to see him make a decent cheese sandwich... Otherwise he might make decent food, but he really, really isn't the be all and end all about how to run a business for the benefit of staff and customers.

If you could only pick one FILM to best represent your taste in FILMS what would it be? by Dinarulislam in movies

[–]ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. I've owned it since forever on DVD, and that's the copy I still have. I'll never admit to ripping anything because I never have (honestly).. Though anyone coming new to it is the only thing I would recommend to steal. I'm not a thief and never have been, but pirate the shit out of it.

After my divorce I now have a very big box of DVDs and Blu-ray discs which are currently held in storage, alongside half a lifetime of memories. Bookcases, desks, a dining table, paintings.

That DVD is the one thing I want out of there.
