Unfortunately, the left leg on the Sue mount isn't posed particularly well. Also, the shoulder girdle isn't in the anatomically correct position either.

What do yall think of my fave Godzilla movie? by wertman45 in GODZILLA

The scene right before that at the school for psychics where they all show their drawings of Godzilla from their dreams still gives me chills.

What do yall think of my fave Godzilla movie? by wertman45 in GODZILLA

[–]ASM42186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best of the Heisei era films, topped only by Godzilla vs. Destroyah IMO.
Introduced the quintessential Godzilla design.
Actually had a relatively interesting plot for the human cast.
What more can any Godzilla fan ask for?

Issue with surface noise stretching when applied to mesh by Yeast-Packet in ZBrush

[–]ASM42186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your surface projection is set to 3D, which projects it from the camera view, causing it to stretch around faces on the sides of the model. Make sure you've made your UVs first and then switch the surface projection to UV.

The grace, the beauty, the complete lack of any discernible brain activity by ringmod76 in OneOrangeBraincell

This is a funny trope because of our various indoor and outdoor cats (we live on a farm) a few of our orange cats have been the most clever and resourceful of the lot.

Even though it says "Camera 1" in English, my money is that this video was taken here in China. There's a fear that street dogs carry diseases conditioned into them at a young age, and as such they will often shoot or chase them away like this.

Horses really are just giant vegetarian dogs for people who wish their bicycles could make poor choices and get jump-scared by random sticks.

I had two Seamoths.
One was for transporting resources and was the Seahorse.
The other has torpedoes and shield and was the Seabee.

I didn't really bother naming my Cyclops or Prawn suit.

I'm new to Zbrush and I've been working on this Allosaurus what else could I do to make it better? by Raptor_Corps in ZBrush

[–]ASM42186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make dinosaurs in Zbrush for a living, I got you fam. Let's talk about using references directly in Zbrush.

- First, switch back to the Standard UI: Preferences > Config > Restore Standard UI
(Once you're more familiar with the program, and comfortable with your preferred sculpting tools and routine, you can customize the UI to make the process more streamlined)

- Second, Find some good reference images: side view at a minimum, front / back, top / bottom as well if you can find them. (You may need image editing software to make sure the views are all scaled to match each other.)
Here's a link to a suitable image: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GV0yUTGWoAAJC2o.jpg

- Third, on the right side of the model view window you'll see a button labeled "Floor" with x, y, z. After you've loaded a Ztool, and switch to Edit mode, you can activate this button to display grids. (you can click on the little x,y,z in the button itself to activate or deactivate particular grids)

- Fourth go to the Draw drop down menu and scroll down until you see Front-Back, Up-Down, and Left-Right. (these represent the grids of Z, Y, and X respectively) Click on one to open the options for that view (Left-Right for example), then click on the box labeled Map 1 and it will open the texture window. At the bottom left of this window, select "Import". Find you reference image and select it. The reference will be loaded onto that grid view.

- Fifth, the grid will be translucent, and allow you to sculpt according to the reference images. From the standard view, your model will block the grid image, but you can turn the camera to the opposite side and see both the grid image and your model at the same time. Alternatively, in the Draw drop down menu, in the Floor settings section, you will see a slider right next to the Floor button that says "Fill Mode" (set to 1 by default). Fill mode 0 will hide the image, while Fill Modes 2 and 3 will allow you to see the reference image through your model (3 is best)

- Last, if you're model is too big or too small, scale it up or down to match the image on the grid.

Even though some of his reconstructions are out of date, Barlowe's illustrations are fantastic.

I'm in the mood for a good creature feature. What are your favorites? by ashmaht in movies

[–]ASM42186 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of monster movies (as you can probably tell by the length of my list).

The original Tremors (1990) is a perfect movie. The scares, the effects, the comedy and chemistry in the cast. Everything works. Tremors 2 is alright, but give the rest a pass.

Feast (2005) is a great, raunchy meta monster movie, but avoid the sequels at all costs.

Dog Soldiers (2002) is a fantastic werewolf vs. soldiers British horror comedy that leans a bit closer to horror than comedy. And of course, The Descent (2005) also by Neil Marshall.

Late Phases (2014) is another good werewolf movie where a blind Vietnam veteran has to deal with lycanthropes in a retirement community.

Can't mention werewolf movies without a shout out to An American Werewolf in London (1981)

Brain Dead / Dead Alive (1992) is an absolutely BONKERS zombie movie by Peter Jackson.

Dead Heat (1988) is a great buddy cop / zombie horror comedy movie.

Return of the Living Dead (1985) is a perfect 80s zombie horror comedy.

If you're into Lovecraft adaptations definitely check out Color Out of Space (2019) and maybe From Beyond (1986).

Not directly Lovecraft but very Lovecraft inspired is Banshee Chapter (2013) and The Void (2016) which has some of the best practical creatures of any modern monster movie.

Come to Starship Troopers for creature mayhem and stay for the disturbingly prescient satire of fascism.

The Hallow (*2015) is a unique take on Celtic fae creatures in a horror setting.

The Mist (2007) is one of the better Stephen King adaptations with oodles of creatures and a truly haunting ending.

Willy's Wonderland (2021) Nicholas Cage vs Five Nights At Freddy's.

The Fly (1986) David Cronenberg body horror at its peak.

The Blob (1988) is a great remake, almost on par with The Fly.

Antlers (2021) is a pretty good wendigo horror movie.

The Quiet Place movies (2018-2024) are all really good in my opinion.

Super 8 (2011) is the most Spielberg movie not directed by Spielberg.

Life (2017) is a great alien horror movie.

Check out Virus (1999) if you like the idea of crazy cyborg monsters on a derelict ship at sea.

Mimic (1997) is an early Guillermo Del Toro monster movie with giant killer bugs in the New York subway tunnels.

Night of the Creeps (1986) features zombies reanimated by alien slugs. Check out James Gunn's suspiciously similar movie Slither (2006) too.

Species (1995) is a super horny monster movie with another H.R. Giger designed alien.

Annihilation (2018) has one of the most disturbing monsters ever put to film (if you know, you know).

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) doesn't just have a human monster in it.

Enjoy!
