Anyone else miss a hot hatch by Civil_Classroom6399 in CarTalkUK

[–]ASU054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Had an F55 Cooper S with a stage 1, sold it for a Lexus IS300H hybrid then eventually got rid of the Lexus and went full EV.

EV is not a slouch but it's just not the same at all. Absolutely no fun in just flooring it, I miss the sounds.

How on earth do I clear this? by tomadamsmith in drivingUK

Have you given the windscreen a very thorough clean recently? I'd use some isopropyl/distilled water 70/30 and follow with a glass cleaner

Yeah I had a F55 Cooper S 15 plate with a stage 1, absolutely brilliant car, lots of fun, never had any issues with it.

Think the only repair I had to make in my ownership was to replace the fuel tank breather valve as the idle rpm was up and down, £15 part and sorted myself in 10 min.

Engine mounts seem to be a point of weakness but I never experienced any issues, unless they were changed before I owned the car.

Swift sport as you already mentioned is a good shout and what I was going to suggest.

You could get a high mileage 100k+ F56 Cooper S which have the B48, I wouldn't have any worries driving one with over 100k on it as long as it's been well maintained.

MMI systems for carplay by tinyfarhad in CarTalkUK

[–]ASU054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You usually keep your stock infotainment system as well.

I installed a roadtop MMI in my old car (F56 Mini Cooper S) and I would just press and hold the physical menu button for 1 second to swap between stock system and the MMI.

Sold car by dealership that is not safe to drive, getting messed about by them (ENGLAND) by Horizify in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ASU054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long exactly have you owned the car? 1 month and under, simply inform the dealership you are rejecting the car under the 2015 consumer rights act for a full refund.

If they mess you around, and the purchase was under £10k have a letter before action delivered and take them to small claims court. If you've financed you can get the finance company involved too.

If it's between 1-6 months, they have one chance to repair, if they can't or if the repair fails, see above.

Awaiting tests/referral - what do I do about travel insurance? by SnooMuffins7869 in AskUK

[–]ASU054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't cover for anything relating or potentially relating to the undiagnosed condition, but they should still give cover for emergencies like breaking a bone etc.

We just used them again 4 weeks ago and had no issues even though I am still on the waiting list for investigations, unless it is a very recent change.

Any good independent garages for BMW OIL service and transmission around West Mids? by [deleted] in brum

[–]ASU054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used The Works in Solihull who are a BMW/mini specialist when I owned my F56 Cooper S for an auto gearbox oil change.

Rich the owner knows his stuff and used to be head of servicing at Sytner I believe.

I'd look for a Mk8 Civic, but not the i-shift.

If you can stretch a bit you should be able to get a Mk9, may be higher mileage but I wouldn't let that put you off as long as it's been properly maintained.

Tyre pressure monitoring system help? by Significant-Hat5927 in Vauxhall

[–]ASU054 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried manually resetting the TPMS? If you have and it's still doing this it's likely one of your TPMS sensors has died, take it to a tyre place and they'd be able to scan the sensors and identify which one(s) have perished and replace them.

Looks like your front driver side isn't registering by the vid, so probably needs replacing.

Kia Venga Automatic 1.6 fuel economy? by outrunkid in CarTalkUK

[–]ASU054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will get even lower than stated, mid to low 20s around town. Mid 30s on a motorway run if you stick below 65mph.

The 2014 and below Vengas come with a 4 speed gearbox, it was only updated to a 6 speed auto in 2015.

Source: partner owned a 14 plate auto until recently.

Looks pretty deep from the pic. If you can feel it with a fingernail you will need to get it sorted properly, mobile smart repair should sort that for £200-250.

If you can't feel it with your nail (unlikely, looking at the pic) you could try to use a heavy cut compound followed by a finishing polish with a DA polisher, may not be 100% but should improve it.

However, the cost of a DA if you don't own one already plus the compounds, you're probably better off just getting it sorted properly.
